Maybe I missed something somewhere. I don't get out that much (Just funning!) What I really mean to say is that I don't come INSIDE this site that much. I must have missed why my main man, Tom Joyner, created this site anyway, and why he named it Inauguration Day 2009. Anyone out there want to clear that up for me?
Well, for me, Tom "can do no wrong." and if he wants to create such a site and give it such a name, who am I to dissuade him. I'm all for that. In fact I'll just join him. And did. It's just that i'm usually considered a rational person and want to understand everything that I decide to become connected to. So what's wrong with that? Can anyone out there help me?
I don't even know how I really got onto this site. Just clicked on somewhere out of curiosity, I guess. And you know these things -- you have to create some footage, give up some information to get what you want. But since I have done that, I have come in contact with some interesting people on occasion. I think this site will soon be growing and will become as popular as any of the others. I just want someone to explain to me where it is really heading. Come on, Tom. You know I also have a connection to Black America Web and get information about your show and business periodically on that.
Well, at least I can see one main, great value in this connection: It gives me a forum to say somewhere what I never have access to that's going on on the daily TJMS show. Am I the only one who doesn't even try to win the $1,000 4 times daily? Regardless of how much I could use it, I never could get through anyway (And to think there is someone who won it 3 times. Oh Glory!). For that matter, I never can seem to keep up with all three numbers: If I hear 1 and 2, I'll never hear 3. Most of the time I hear 2 and 3 and would have missed #1. But haven't there been so many whenever I wanted to say something back to J. Anthony Brown or even Sybil or a guest but I could not do so because I would never be able to get through on the phone that soon. So here is a place I can express myself: Even Rant and Rave! So if nothing else, there is the value in this. But that's my side of the story and I'm sticking to it. What say You?
If you miss the TJMS show you need to do something about it! Write ClearChannel! Let them know they made a bad decision and that you have been a loyal TJMS listener! We need to speak up! Let the corporate execs know they slipped up (I could have used several other words to describe what they did!)
We don't want to stand idly by wringing our hands and wondering what to do in this day and age of instant communication! We need to let them know!!
If we want to get Tom back on the radio in Chicago (with Steve still on also) then we need to write to Clear Channel and let them know how we feel about their decision to put Steve on both stations and take Tom off altogether!
Email Randall T. Mayes or any of the other executives listed on ClearChannel's webiste! Urge your freind to email the ClearChannel execs also.
There was no reason for that decison, in my opinion. We had a choice--we could choose to listen to Tom or Steve. This decision is unreasonable because we African-American radio listeners in Chicago no longer have a choice!
We have to let ClearChannel know that we do have money though! And we do spend it! With businesses that advertise on their radio stations! And, we won't stand silently by and allow ClearChannel to remove one of our most popular African-American DJ's (the same guy who gave Steve Harvey his first shot on the radio) from one of his biggest listening audience/market!
I'm sitting Looking like PUKIE IN NEW JACK CITY! I can only hear the show after 1pm [CST]. WE NEED A YOU HERE IN CHICAGO!!!! PLEASE TRY SOUL 106 or something !! DON'T LEAVE US HANGING.
I guess you know by now that the Windy City is in a complete UPROAR about the situation with WVAZ. As reported in the local news that no explaination was given for your departure, but thank goodness for the "Net" . Some of us might still be able to hear you day after day, but I hope that you get an outlet here so all of us can enjoy your ADULT SHOW again real soon. Nothing against Steve Harvey, he didn't do this, but 18 years of "Tom" and the crew just don't fade away. Steve may be Hot right now, just not hot enough for the AM crowd at V103. if I were the P.D., I would really really have to have a good reason for the listening public for my " BONEHEAD MOVE ".
Looking for the TJMS back in the Windy City real soon!!!!
First time blogger!!! Just wanted to say I don't know what I'm going to listen too in the a.m. since you left us here in the Chicago area. I'm sorry to say you guys kept me laughing on my way home in the mornings. I really miss the TJMS. Never imagined a day without you. The Chicago listening area will be missing the TJMS. Much Love to all of you - Wishing you continued success. We will keep our fingers crossed and pray that the TJMS will RISE AGAIN but, I'm looking for a new station, it's not the same with the TJMS gone.
First time blogger!!! Just want to say how sorry I am for taking the TJMS for granted. Thought you guys would always be here. Couldn't have imagined a day without you. This is not the "CHANGE" that we need here in the Chicagoland listening area. Much Love to all of you - Wishing you continued success. But, if at all possible, BABY COME BACK.
I will continue to listen to the TJMS on line. I miss the showterribly. The arrogance of the radio replacement since his Oprah book tour is extremely annoying and I can only take him in very small doses.
I feel for the people in ChiTown. I grew up in Chicago and I've always listen to the TJMS. When I moved out here to Az. I was thrilled that even though we didn't celebrate MLK's birthday, we did have a Black owned radio station, and the TJMS was my wake up call every morning. Well seven years ago I woke to ASH....nothing. The radio station had been taken over by another company and they were playing old show music...The Andy Griffin Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show etc. In the past, the Black radio station WOULD have some gaps in the airing, but the next day, they would be back up and rolling. Everyday for a week I'd get in my car, turn the radio on, nothing. I was devastated, when I read in our only Black newspaper; Arizona Informant, that the station was gone for good. I felt like I was in this one horse town with no outside information coming in. No, I take that back, I felt like a slave on a plantation waiting for the newspaper to fly over that read I was free, three years later.
So I got on the internet and started streaming TMJS. It was kind of hard getting used to streaming TMJS, because in order for me to listen live now I have to get up at 3:00 or 4:00 am depending on daylight savings time. And I can't listen to TMJS in the car. I love the show and if you are passionate about something we will CHANGE for that reason.
Nobody wants to fill in any information about themselves on this site. What is the deal with that. Is everybody so ashamed of themselves they don't want to say who the hell they are or is it because they're afraid of being judged or do they just skip this part cause they think it aint important. It's not important really, but it's therre mostly for entertainment purposes and to educate each other. Okay, I'm still saying it WAKE UP U PEEPS we still asleep at the wheel.
Why do you think they're taking TJMS show off the stations in some areas. They are now dictating to us what or who we should listen to. You want to know why. It's because we don't know ourselves (hint-nobody fills out the about me section when they write) and we are too damn afraid to speak up. We got to do more. We got rights you know, or maybe some of my people still think we living in slavery. I'm a straight up country girl, but it seems the people living in the city have no clot whatsoever. They don't know what's going on until they get hit with shit and that's when it's too late. All I got to say is we need to grow the f## up and stop depending on others to fight our causes, cause it aint gonna happen. Yes I'm mad, but in a good way!
TJMS CAUSED US TO THINK, CONSIDER AND GROW....SO THAT WASN'T COOL...SEE TJMS WAS A PARTY WITH A PURPOSE, WHERE PEOPLE OF COLOR WERE ENPOWERED, HBCU'S WERE THE STARS, THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE WAS CENTER STAGE, AND THE DAY'S NEWS TOLD AS IT REALLY IS...SEE THEY DON'T MIND IF YOU SHUCK, JIVE AND GRIN TILL THE COWS COME HOME; BUT ENPOWERMENT IS THREATENING SO IT MUST BE STOPPED...THERE...NOW...BACK IN YOUR PLACE...AND YOU CAN SHUCK, JIVE AND GRIN TILL THE COWS COME HOME ON 2 STATIONS ....
I am so pissed clear channel, is known for these kinds of things, they pull this same stuff when my girl Bonnie DeShong and George Wilburn, and Tony Richards all of sudden they were out with no explanation SO my only other recourse is to wait until I get to work to hear a rebroadcast of The Tom Joyner Morning Show. I am not even listening to the radio in the morning while getting ready for Work it isnt the same without YOU
Love always
bjw STAY BLESSED AND POSTIVE SEE YA SOON
What da fudge is goin' on!? Why do we constantly have to remove talented individuals for greed and envy? I just want to know why is TJMS Favorite Jock off the air and replaced with a comedian? Did Steve Harvey mold the audience or was it Tom Joyner. Let's get it together my brothers and sistas and rally for the return of the Fly Jock...Hardest Working radio host in the world! I am beyond disappointed I am straight up pissed off. Shame on Clear Channel and the big wiggs who screwed up on this decision.
I got in my car yesterday, started the engine and heard an unfamiliar voice...sounded like Steve Harvey? I looked at the display to see the setting and saw 102.7...more confusion? I then turned to 107.5 and again Steve Harvey. I then thought it's not April 1st, so what's wrong with my radio. During my hour drive I kept hearing Steve Harvey and couldn't take it anymore and turned to XM Radio (sorry Steve you okay as a comedian, on the radio?). At 7:30 a.m. I turned back to 102.7 thinking, "okay, Huggy Lowdown is coming on, this will be okay." At 7:30 a.m., no Huggy Lowdown. Upon finally arriving to my office, my boss shared that TJMS was no more in Chicago. Now it's stressful living and driving in Chicago and each morning to make that hour drive in some of the worse traffic in the nation, TJMS gave me an opportunity to laugh, laugh, and laugh. TJMS in the morning helped relieve some of the tension of driving, thinking of the work schedule for the day, thinking of the what still needed to be completed for my work schedule, my personal schedule, my sorority schedule, and kept me informed politically with the myriad of issues we face as a nation and as a people. I called ClearChannel, no response. I emailed ClearChannel, no response. In this current economic collapse and high unemployment, it seems that the intellectual midget executive that made this bonehead decision should be in line somewhere looking for his/her next position. Okay, CHICAGO, are we taking this or are we calling Chicago TV stations to complain so a story shows up on Ch. 2, 5, 7, 9 and 32? Chicagoans are not punks and we don't take likely to someone making a decision on what we can listen to! Fraters and Sorors...don't leave our Frater Joyner in the wind! Call the local television stations to complain until they do a story on this!
I find it very disappointing there is no more TJMS so now Chicago only gets one black dj in the mornings and its Steve Harvey!! Please. This is outrageous. Tom Joyner, Jay and Sybil had substanance. I don't need someone to explain when to drink brown liquor, pretend to be an illerate preacher and explain what Peabo meant in Feel the Fire. I was there. Whats going to happen to Tom's foundations and the amazing things he did for students. How will Sybil break a foot off in someone? It will be hard to live without Jays humor and murdered hits! I thought it was hard getting up in the mornings - no TJMS will be really hard. If there is someone I can let know that I will no longer listen to any Clear Channel stations or support any of their sponsors, please let me know.
I can't even express how upset I was this morning with the discovery of the cancellation of the TJMS. I am sure that Steve Harvey has his following, but I am not one of them. Management should be able to realize, if listeners wanted to hear Steve, they would have tuned into GCI. What sense does it make to have him on two stations??? I would rather listen to books on cd, and will.
I can't count the number of years I have been awakened by the TJMS. Jay Anthony Brown cracking his jokes; sible wilk claiming to be "miss goodie 2shoe"; boy will I miss them. I didn't get the chance to ask them what ever happened to "Dee Whiteman" or even Ms Dupree. Its as though someone has died; I really wasn't trying to hear on the local news that he had been let go by Clear Channel. It was my information source and I will miss him terribly.
After trying to listen to Steve Harvey this morning it wasn't the same; no disrespect to Steve, because I respect him as a successful black man doing his thing and doing what he do, but I like what I like and the TJMS supply an abundance of information to his listeners in Chicago; all I could do was turn off my radio; DAMN
Bye Tom; I just joined this site; I'm powerless of your demise here in Chicago, but I'm not powerless over logging into Blackamericaweb and keeping in touch; Thanks for all you do; keep doing it. I'll have to find a way to continue on without hearing the TJMS each morning.
Clear Channel Network
Cammy Jones, Director of Communications
I am sure this is not the person who made the final decision on the TJMS but it is a start.
I am outraged about Clear Channel's decision. I awaken to the TJMS each day, listen during my commute and listen while at work. I cannot imagine not having the TJMS as an otion each morning. I have nothing against Steve Harvey as a comedian but I do not like his radio program. There is a distinct difference and a audience for both he and Tom Joyner. I will not be listening to WGCI or WVAZ because of this decision. Clear Channel , this was a poor decision and a terrible way to treat an icon and mainstay in Chicago radio..
All- I was very disappointed to learn that Tom Joyner one of Chicago's own home grown, radio personality, show would no longer be simulcast by Clear Channel. I have listened to Tom Joyner for most of my life.. His show was informative, enlightening, entertaining and very in touch with our community as a whole. I cannot understand how this happened. I have no problems with Steve Harvey but he is no Tom Joyner. His show is not of the same caliber. I know this decision was not made over night but I cannot see how another resource has been taken away from the black community, that informed and kept us abreast of issues that directly effective our way of life. Tom's show empowered the community, I was inspired by his work to help keep black colleges open, help send our youth to college, recognize individuals for the selflessness. Tavis Smiley was a great moderator and Roland Martin has step up to the plate tremendously. I couldn't wait to here the Shicty Report during the election; and to find out who was the Bama of the week... IN CLOSING THE BAMA OF THE WEEK AND MONTHS TO COME IS ALL PARTIES INSTRUMENTAL IN TAKING THE TJMS OFF THE AIR IN CHICAGO!!!! signed A VERY DISAPPOINTED LISTENER THAT WILL NOT BE LISTENING TO ANY STATIONS OWNED OR OPERATED BY CLEAR CHANNEL...
