Hey,
I took action against a 30-minute fake "documentary" set to air this Sunday after Meet the Press on NBC. The ad will attempt to swift-boat health care reform, and could contain blatantly false and misleading statements. Take action here: http://action.seiu.org/page/s/fakedocumentary
NBC has policies in place to guard against false and misleading advertising on their networks.
Will you join me in telling television networks to quit airing ads that contain false statements and misleading quotes from health care professionals? http://action.seiu.org/page/s/fakedocumentary
We cannot let Mr. Rick Scott swift-boat health care reform with his lies and distortions. If he's going to participate in the national discussion around health care reform, he should stop peddling lies and start making arguments founded on solid evidence.
Join me in telling NBC not to air Rick Scott's phony "documentary" this Sunday: http://action.seiu.org/page/s/fakedocumentary
Thanks!
World's Billionaires 2009
It's been a tough year for the richest people in the world. Last year there were 1,125 billionaires. This year
there are just 793 people rich enough to make our list.
The world has become a wealth wasteland.
Like the rest of us, the richest people in the world have endured a financial disaster over the past year. Today
there are 793 people on our list of the World's Billionaires, a 30% decline from a year ago.
FORBES.COM says.
I say...,,
WHO THE HECK CARES?!!.
These are the " WORLD's GRTEATEST PARASITES "
The reason for the poverty, the homeless, the jobless, the hopeless, the helpless, some of the sick and the dead.
But its called CAPITALISM, so its OK!
All the products and services, some of which are the life line of most of the poor people, is just fomated to suck
people dry, and after all that, they are praised, paraded and pampered. What they need is to be plucked.
I hope that there is a way that they can take it all with them to the grave, or it buys them a place in eternity.
That includes all the so-called Celebrities, each and every one of them.
But who can we blame but ourselves. WE still go out there and purchase their stuff, regardless of the prices..
A commercial uprising is certainly needed. Stop buying their stuff, limit the necessities.
As much as we utilise their products and services, they need to know how that money came about.
Let them keep their products and services, see if they can put that in the bank.
All these suckers need to know that without us, ain't no them. So who's the boss.
But its called CAPITALISM, so its OK!
And who do they capitalise on?,
Well if you ever been broke, only had temp jobs last eight years - with no insurance.
Ever got evicted, lost a job - two or three temp jobs in one year.
Had to quit school, or college. Or family that past, because you could not afford the meds.
If you had a repo, or can't even afford a used one. If you ever went hungry.
Or so many that went through all that and more.
Then you know who they capitalising on..
But its called CAPITALISM,
AND IT JUST ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!
A commercial uprising is certainly needed.
THERE IS NO THEM, WITHOUT US!!!!
Dear friend,
On New Year's Eve, Oscar Grant was shot execution-style by a transit
police officer in Oakland, California. He was shot in the back while
face-down on a subway platform--unarmed and posing no threat.
Twelve days later--despite several videos showing exactly what
happened--the officer who killed Grant hasn't been arrested, charged,
or even questioned. He quit the force and has refused to speak. The
District Attorney has done nothing.
It's time to demand that California Attorney General Jerry Brown take
over the case and arrest Grant's killer, and to ask that the US
Department of Justice launch an independent investigation into the
conduct of local authorities. Please join me:
http://www.colorofchange.org/oscar/?id=1744-523806
Oscar Grant is the third man murdered by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)
police in the past 17 years. All three victims were Black and none
posed a serious threat. In each case, BART and county authorities have
failed to hold the officers accountable.
In the previous cases, BART's internal investigations concluded that
the officers felt threatened by the victims and were justified in
pulling the trigger. It's unbelievable given the circumstances of the
killings:
- In 1992, 19-year-old Jerrold Hall was shot in the back by a BART
officer as he tried to leave the parking lot of a station. The officer
was responding to reports of an armed robbery and said he suspected
that Hall and a friend were involved. The officer tried to detain the
two, Hall ran and then the officer shot him in the back and killed
him. Hall was unarmed, but the officer said he thought Hall was on his
way to get a gun and return for a showdown.
- In 2001, a mentally ill man named Bruce Seward was the next victim
of the rogue force. Seward, 42, was naked and had been sleeping on a
bench outside the BART station when an officer approached him. Seward
did grab the officer's nightstick at one point, but there were several
options for subduing him. Instead, the officer shot and killed him.
In addition to BART's internal investigation, Alameda County's
District Attorney is also investigating Oscar Grant's murder--but the
office's record on investigating police killings is horrible too. In
both cases just described, the District Attorney bought BART's
argument that the officers felt threatened. As a result, the cops were
cleared of any wrongdoing.
In the case of Grant's murder, the DA has already let 12 days pass
while doing essentially nothing--the officer who killed Grant is able
to travel and leave the state, and he's free to talk with other
officers and attempt to construct a story to justify his killing of
Oscar Grant.
The problem with Alameda County's DA goes beyond BART police murders.
In the past two years alone, there have been 11 fatal police shootings
in Oakland (not including that of Oscar Grant). When asked, the
officials at the District Attorney's office could not remember a
single case in the last 20 years where an on-duty cop had been charged
in a fatal shooting in Alameda County. It gives the clear appearance
that the District Attorney's office just doesn't have the will to
prosecute police crimes.
California's Attorney General needs to step in now and arrest Oscar
Grant's murderer. And the US Department of Justice should investigate
the failure of the authorities in Alameda County to act. It's the
first step towards justice. After that, we will push for systemic
changes to create public accountability for BART and other police
departments. Creating those structural changes will be a much longer
fight, but Oscar Grant's tragic death is a wake-up call that should
give us a real chance to help prevent this from happening again.
Please join me in demanding justice, and then ask your family and
friends to do the same:
http://www.colorofchange.org/oscar/?id=1744-523806
Thanks.
I need a attitude adjustment, I have 27 years on the job and I have reached a point that I dont think I can go another year....even the reality of the loss of money by taking early retirement is not motivating me..... does anyone else feel this way....just want to quit your job and lean on faith, luck or whatever!
When you look real good at young men in the hood, especially from the back all dressed in black, pants hanging low as they walk very slow, up the street and down again, they begin to look like penguins. Gun in hand, trying to be a man, penguins pump enough adrenaline to swim in, to summon the courage to rob women. Like most birds that can’t fly, penguins are quick to die. Very old penguins are not many, cause their average life span is 15 to 20. It occurred to me, that a real penguin you see, has white where a hood penguin’s innocent heart used to be. With men and boys it is essential that they reach their potential, if they’re to be free. Hood penguins could be kings and priests or teachers and advisors to queens like Alcuin, but they choose to be cruel young villains like Tarquin. A hood penguin could be like baldaquin, with valued lives as silk, gold, and silver that shone, as an ornamental crown above an altar or throne. He has the capacity to be anything he wants to be, if he develops the tenacity to stop living like Butch Cassidy. You could make your mother proud again penguin, if you quit wandering streets like Bedouin, standing on corners like mannequins, or running in gangs like Algonquin. At what point will you grow to be men? When will you cease breaking in to abandons, to make them crack dens, while packing Mac-tens? If you never live to grow into a man’s stead, what good can be said, in your requin penguin? For boys to become men, they must learn discipline. There are only two places, besides the military, where a boy can learn discipline: the play pen or the state pen. If he doesn’t learn behind mama’s apron veil, he will be forced to learn from strong men in jail. I understand the time you live in is different from mine. Back then, girls were named Gwen, boys were named Ken, and we were ready to fight in Phnom Penh. You could only do so much or go so far, when all the adults in the neighborhood know who you are. For you it’s not the same. No one knows who you are or the meaning of your name. You fight only for your next meal, a sneaker deal, or individual fame. All is not lost little penguin forever, if you just choose to listen, however. Things for you can change overnight, if you determine to put your past out of sight. You must convince your own mind, over and again, that you will never return to the prison den. You can be anything you want from handymen to Ambassadors of the U.N. And you can do anything you want, you know, if you develop the character and discipline to remain where you want to go. Even with talent to run like the wind, without character and discipline, you can still become a convict like Michael Vic or be the star to fall next like DMX. You could be as hot as cayenne, but stardom only lasts with the wisdom of men. You see, the wise like Denzel rarely fail and they never go to jail. As you seek to begin again young penguin, will you slip or trip now and then? Yes! But you can get up my friend. Will people not trust because of your reputation back when? Yes. But you must prove over and again, that you have grown from the penguin, to be wise like the sage hen. Amen?

Hard to believe, I know, but not all were joyous on Election Night. In Texas, Baylor students were bringing out the nooses. And in Midland, Michigan,: there was this guy:
A Midland man told police that his walking on the sidewalk in full Knights of Ku Klux Klan regalia while toting a handgun had nothing to do with Barack Obama winning the presidency.
Later, however, he admitted that Obama's victory was the catalyst for his display.
Midland police questioned Randy G. Gray II, 30, who was walking on the sidewalk along Eastman near North Saginaw Wednesday afternoon while waving an American flag, but released him because he wasn't breaking any laws.
Gray was walking up and down the sidewalk in front of a vehicle dealership while several motorists shouted obscenities at him and others shouted ''accolades,'' police said.
Randy Gray's name may ring some bells ...

Yep, that Randy Gray. He was tossed from the Ron Paul campaign when they discovered he was a Klansman. My guess is he didn't vote for McCain either.
Here he is in action at a Ron Paul rally "white power" event.

President-elect Barack Obama and President George W. Bush will meet face-to-face tomorrow at 2 pm in the White House to discuss the upcoming transition. Atrios highlights a previous encounter between the two men:
“Obama!” Bush exclaimed, according to Obama’s account of the meeting in his second memoir, “The Audacity of Hope.” “Come here and meet Laura. Laura, you remember Obama. We saw him on TV during election night. Beautiful family. And that wife of yours — that’s one impressive lady.”
The two men shook hands and then, according to Obama, Bush turned to an aide, “who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitizer in the president’s hand.”
Bush then offered some to Obama, who recalled: “Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirt.”

FELICIA FONSECA | November 8, 2008 11:03 PM EST |
ST. JOHNS, Ariz. — A man who police believe was shot and killed by his 8-year-old son had consulted a Roman Catholic priest about whether the boy should handle guns and had taught him how to use a rifle, the clergyman said Saturday.
The father, Vincent Romero, 29, was from a family of avid hunters and wanted to make sure the boy wasn't afraid of guns, said the Very Rev. John Paul Sauter of St. Johns Catholic Church. The boy's stepmother had suggested he have a BB gun, the priest said.
Romero taught his son how to use a rifle to kill prairie dogs, Sauter said. Police say the boy used a .22-caliber rifle Wednesday to kill his father and another man, Timothy Romans, 39, of San Carlos.
The priest did not say how he advised the couple but said Saturday that the boy "was just too young."
"That child, I don't think he knows what he did, and it was brutal," Sauter said.
The boy, who faces two counts of premeditated murder, did not act on the spur of the moment, St. Johns Police Chief Roy Melnick said. Police are looking into whether he might have been abused.

Assassination fears surrounding Obama, codenamed "Renegade" by his security on the campaign trail, mean that he may become the most heavily guarded president in history. After months of shaking hands with strangers, the President-elect delivered his victory speech from behind bulletproof glass in Chicago's Grant Park.
Streets around his mock-Georgian mansion in enclave by the University of Chicago have been closed. The main thoroughfare has been shut down because it passes his yard.

Obama will stick to middle-class tax cut
By MIKE ALLEN | 11/9/08 9:51 AM
A middle-class tax cut will be one of President-elect Obama’s first proposals after he takes the oath of office, incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said Sunday.
In the first interview of the first appointee to the new administration, Emanuel told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” that Obama’s economic plan “at this juncture is based on giving 95 percent of working Americans a tax cut.”
“Over the years, the middle class has been squeezed consistently by rising costs on education, health care and energy, as well as a diminishing income,” Emanuel said. “You must have an economic program that focuses on them. … It was built on the fact that the middle had been hurt. And to have a strong recovery, and a sustained recovery over a period of time means that the middle class must the focus of the economic strategy.”
Emanuel’s chief message for the day: “We have a huge economic crisis here at home that is looming large. That is going to be the focus of his policies. … The business of what we have to do when we get sworn in is focusing on what the American people care about. Priority one is the economy.”During the campaign, Obama promised a $1,000 “Making Work Pay” tax credit.
“Middle class families will see their taxes cut – and no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase,” the campaign said. “For 95 percent of workers and their families—150 million workers overall—the ‘Making Work Pay’ credit will provide a refundable tax cut of $500 for workers or $1,000 for working couple.”
Since then, the deficit has ballooned. It was $455 billion for the budget year ending Sept. 30, and could double this year because of the costs of financial bailouts and slower revenues because of the lousy economy.
Emanuel did not directly answer a question about whether Obama would postpone plans to let Bush tax breaks expire, which would mean a tax increase for the highest earners.
In a story sure to get heavy plan on conservative talk radio, the cover of the New York Daily News says, “YES, I WILL TAX RICH: Obama tells doubters he’ll let W’s tax break for wealthy run out.”
The story by Kenneth R. Bazinet reports: “For the rich, the party is over - as promised. Despite speculation to the contrary, President-elect Barack Obama will act on his campaign promise and roll back the Bush administration's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, an Obama senior adviser told The Daily News. The Obama camp rejected the overnight analysis by some pundits who speculated the language at his first news conference Friday suggested the President-elect was backing away from his tax plans. ‘No change to the tax plan - at all,’ the aide said.”
CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo had said that during his well-reviewed debut news conference in Chicago on Friday, Obama “gave himself some wiggle room on those tax increases he's been talking about.”Obama told reporters: “I think that the plan that we've put forward is the right one, but, obviously, over the next several weeks and months, we're going to be continuing to take a look at the data and see what's taking place in the economy as a whole. But, understand, the goal of my plan is to provide tax relief to families that are struggling, but also to boost the capacity of the economy to grow from the bottom up.”

US combat troops in Iraq battle to defend savings
US Lieutenant Colonel Mark Grabski has been busy on the computer over the past few weeks -- not to follow the history-making presidential election but to check on his dwindling savings.
"I had a list of icons, my favourites, the funds that are working with Thrift savings programme. Every single day, their rates were just collapsing," said the officer posted at Camp Speicher, north of the Iraqi capital.
"Virtually, I've lost right now tens of thousand of dollars," said the 31-year-old who is in charge of criminal inspections of the base.
Grabski said a third of his salary goes into Thrift, an additional pension scheme for US civil servants and soldiers. "I've lost 30 percent of my savings in this programme due to the financial crisis."
Army pensions are meant to pay out 50 percent of the salary of soldiers with 20 years of service and 75 percent for 30 years, but many rely on the Thrift programme to further secure their retirement.

So pathetic.
Luckily there are people like Shannon Bennett. She decided to take matters into her own hands.
After the Barack Obama sign was stolen from her front yard, Shannon Bennett painted a more permanent one with 12 cans of spray-paint and her front lawn as the canvas. "I just wanted to be able to say who I support, without being censored, which is how I felt when my sign was taken," said Bennett. She painted a large, red, white, and blue symbol in the front yard, using her old Obama sign as an inspiration.
This is why I love living in Austin. Even though we're literally surrounded by red counties (although even in Texas things are shifting to purple in some areas) we get artistic, creative people like Ms. Bennett.

Fox's Shepard Smith Forced To Offer Disclaimer After Joe The Plumber Interview
Video Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTymPsuedQU
So, Joe The Plumber was out on the trail with John McCain today, apparently giving the thumbs up to someone in the crowd who felt that an Obama Presidency would bring about the end of Israel. From Raw Story:
The Ohio plumber, who has no license and is actually named Samuel Wurzelbacher, spoke at a McCain campaign event in Columbus Monday. A McCain supporter asked if "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel." JTP hardly batted an eye."I'll go ahead and agree with you on that," Wurzelbacher said.
It's all a part of Joe the Plumber's "Maybe I'm A Foreign Policy Expert, But Anyway, You Should Go Out And Get Your Own Opinions On Things Instead Of Listening To Mine, Even Though I'm Going To Keep Opining If You Give Me Half A Chance, And Anyway, I Don't Even Really Know What John McCain's Position Is On Anything Anyway, And Probably I Should Be Snaking A Sink Trap Or Something, Instead Of Dragging Myself All Over The Country Making Statements Which I Then Sort Of Disavow A Few Minutes Later Anyway, Who Knows?" Tour of 2008!
Honestly, it's like the 24 Hour News has finally reached the 25th Hour or something.
Anyway, five minutes with Joe The Plumber had Shepard Smith so frustrated that the Fox anchor felt compelled to issue a disclaimer, immediately following the segment, pushing back on any notion that Obama would mean the "death of Israel," saying: "I just want to make this 100 percent perfectly clear -- Barack Obama has said repeatedly and demonstrated repeatedly that Israel will always be a friend of the United States, no matter what happens once he becomes President of the United States. His words." Smith later added, "The rest of it -- man...some things -- it just gets frightening sometimes. We'll be right back." I haven't seen Shep this broken up about the state of the world since Katrina.
Meanwhile, let's remember that after a year of trying to figure out what their campaign is about, the McCain camp has basically pinned all their hopes to the avatar of Joe The Plumber, a random dude who says, "I know just enough about foreign policy to probably be dangerous...I have no idea where John McCain's position is...I honestly want people to go out and find their own reasons. I tell people not to listen to everyone else's opinion. I'm not going to have them start listening to mine." His words. Such as they are.
SMITH: Do you think John McCain agrees with you?
PLUMBER: No, that is just my personal opinion that I've come up with by looking into different facts and what I think. That is what my message has been about. I haven't been telling people to go out and vote. Listen, you don't want my opinion on foreign policy. I know just enough about foreign policy to probably be dangerous.
SMITH: That is what I was wondering. I wonder if you think it is dangerous at all for people to say that a vote for Barack Obama is the same as a vote for Israel, if you think that is dangerous for people to start believing. What happens if the polls are right and he becomes President of the United States and people start thinking that this means the death of Israel. Are you worried about what people might do if they actually believe something like that?
PLUMBER: That goes back to what I just got done saying. Some people believe it wholeheartedly. This gentleman I spoke to is Middle America. Therefore...it is very important to him -- important to me, but especially important to this gentleman. He is Middle America and he was able to get on there and make his point, and I agreed with him. I have no idea where John McCain's position is on that. John McCain is his own person, just like I am.
SMITH: Do you think a lot of that has to do with some hateful things that spread all over the internet? After all, Barack Obama has said repeatedly time after time that there is nothing more important that the United States friendship with Israel-- and the United States will back up Israel every moment of every day if and when he becomes President of the United States. He could not have been clearer about it in his positions in speeches, and I just wonder what it is that makes you think he is lying about that.
PLUMBER: [illegible] Actions...I have heard words. I hear words from politicians all the time, but actions [crosstalk] the action that I see is offering to meet with certain enemies of the United States on no uncertain terms --
SMITH: Meeting with Ahmadinejad? That is what the campaign said. Let's put the statement on the screen. This is what the McCain campaign released after you said that at the campaign event today. So that is what they put out. "While he's clearly his own man, so far Joe has offered some penetrating and clear analysis that cuts to the core of many of the concerns that people have with Barack Obama's statements and policies. Whether it is Obama's willingness to sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or his plans to redistribute the paychecks of hardworking Americans, there is good reason to question the judgement that Obama would bring to the Oval Office." So that's what they put out, so I guess the fact that he has said it he would meet with Ahmadinejad is something that you have taken to believe would be the death of Israel?
PLUMBER: It definitely does not help the situation. I'm not trying to be dancing around this. I honestly want people to go out and find their own reasons. I tell people not to listen to everyone else's opinion. I'm not going to have them start listening to mine. Go out and get informed.
SMITH: Joe Wurzelbacher on the line with us after a GOP stop, a number of them today.
I just want to make this 100 percent perfectly clear -- Barack Obama has said and demonstrated repeatedly that Israel will always be a friend of the United States, no matter what happens once he becomes President of the United States. His words. The rest of it -- man...some things--it just gets frightening sometimes. We'll be right back

Barack Obama leads John McCain by a 52% to 36% margin in Pew’s latest nationwide survey of 1,325 registered voters. This is the fourth consecutive survey that has found support for the Republican candidate edging down. In contrast, since early October weekly Pew surveys have shown about the same number of respondents saying they back Obama. When the sample is narrowed to those most likely to vote, Obama leads by 53% to 38%.
A breakdown of voting intentions by demographic groups shows that since mid- September, McCain’s support has declined significantly across most voting blocs. Currently, McCain holds a statistically significant advantage only among white evangelical Protestants (aside from Republicans). In addition, Obama runs nearly even with McCain in the so-called red states, all of which George W. Bush won in 2004.
Just as ominous for the Republican candidate, Obama holds a 53% to 34% lead among the sizable minority of voters (15%) who say they have already voted. Among those who plan to vote early but have not yet voted (16% of voters), 56% support Obama, while 37% support McCain.
While Obama’s support levels have not increased much in recent weeks, a growing percentage of his backers now say they support him strongly. Currently, 74% of Obama voters say they support him strongly, up from 65% in mid-September. A much smaller majority of McCain backers (56%) say they support him strongly, which is largely unchanged from mid-September.
The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Oct. 23-26 among 1,500 adults interviewed on landline and cell phones, for the first time includes minor-party candidates Ralph Nader and Bob Barr. Few voters support either candidate, and their inclusion does not substantially affect the margins of support in the Obama-McCain race.
The survey finds that the proportion of Americans who disapprove of Bush’s job performance has hit a new high in a Pew survey (70%); just 22% now approve of the way Bush is handling his job. Since January, when Bush’s job rating was already quite low, at 31%, his approval mark has declined by nine points.
As disapproval of President Bush’s job performance has edged upward, fewer voters say that McCain would take the country in a different direction from Bush’s. Currently, more voters say McCain would continue Bush’s policies than say he would take the country in a different direction (47% vs. 40%). Just a week ago (Oct. 16-19), voters were divided over whether McCain would continue Bush’s policies or not (44% continue, 45% take new direction).
Favorable ratings for the Republican Party, which rose sharply following the party’s convention in early September, have declined to about their previous levels. Currently, 50% say they have an unfavorable opinion of the GOP, while 40% express a favorable opinion of the party; in mid-September, about as many had a favorable opinion of the Republican Party as an unfavorable one (47% favorable vs. 46% unfavorable).
By contrast, a solid majority (57%) continues to express a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, while 33% have an unfavorable impression. Majorities have expressed positive opinions of the Democratic Party for the past two years (since October 2006).
Coming out of the party conventions in September, Obama and McCain were running even. As the campaign enters the final stretch, Obama maintains a solid lead over McCain, with few significant changes since mid-October among key voter groups.
In mid-September (Sept. 9-14), McCain held significant advantages among those earning more than $75,000 a year, white evangelical Protestants, whites who have not completed college, and white men. Today, he maintains a significant advantage only among white evangelical voters, and has lost the lead or seen it shrink in most other categories.
For example, among voters earning $75,000 a year or more, McCain held a 53% to 39% advantage in the Sept. 9-14 survey. Now, Obama leads by 52% to 41%. After the conventions, McCain held a 52% to 38% edge among white voters. Today, he and Obama are running evenly at 44% each. In September, McCain held a 56% to 34% advantage among white respondents with some college education. Now, the candidates tally 46% each.
Meanwhile, the latest survey shows Obama continuing to dominate among his core support groups. Nearly seven-in-ten voters younger than 30 (68%) say they support the Illinois senator, compared to 24% who say they support McCain. Among women, Obama leads by 20 points (54% to 34%).
Since last spring, American voters have been divided over whether McCain would continue President Bush’s policies or take the country in a new direction, should the Republican nominee become president. In the current survey, however, a plurality of voters (47%) say the Republican nominee would continue Bush’s polices while four-in-ten say McCain would take the country in a new direction.
Independent voters have become substantially more likely to say McCain would continue Bush’s policies (37% in mid-October, 48% now) than to say he would take the country in a new direction (50% in mid-October, 38% now). By comparison, there have been no significant changes in opinion among Republican voters or Democratic voters: The vast majority of Republican voters (74%) say McCain would take the country in a different direction, while nearly as many Democratic voters (69%) say he would continue Bush’s policies.
Half of voters say that, if elected, McCain “would do too much for wealthy Americans.” Far fewer – just 17% – believe that Obama “would do too much for African Americans” if he is elected. These opinions are largely unchanged since mid-September.
Whites who have not completed college are more likely than white college graduates to say that Obama would do too much for blacks (24% vs. 8%). Nearly half of whites (46%) who have not finished college say that McCain would do too much for the wealthy.
Among all white voters, 19% say, if elected, Obama would do too much for blacks; roughly twice as many (39%) say that McCain, if he is elected, would do too much for the wealthy.
Who Are The Undecideds?
A week before the election, nearly one-in ten voters (8%) remain undecided in their choice for president and there is little to suggest that these voters will move strongly to one candidate or the other on election day.
When undecided voters are asked whether there is a chance they might vote for McCain or for Obama, only 14% indicate a preference for one candidate over the other (7% for McCain and 7% for Obama). More than three-quarters (78%) of the undecideds continue to express uncertainty: about three-in-ten (29%) say they might vote for either of the two candidates, while almost half (49%) say that they do not know if there’s a chance they might vote for either Obama or McCain. The remaining 8% say they will vote for neither candidate.
Undecided voters are less educated, less affluent, and somewhat more likely to be female than the average voter. Nearly half of undecided voters (48%) say they attend religious services at least weekly, which is same as the proportion of McCain supporters. Fewer Obama supporters (31%) say theyattend religious services at least once a week.
On most issues, the positions held by undecided voters fall between those of Obama and McCain supporters, although they are somewhat more similar to McCain supporters on the issue of illegal immigration. Overall, these voters are more likely than supporters of either candidate to say they don’t have an opinion about most issues.
Undecided voters do clearly distinguish themselves from supporters of both McCain and Obama in their lower levels of participation and interest in this election, and partisan politics in general. A majority (51%) of undecideds do not identify with either the Republican or Democratic parties and fewer than half (48%) report having voted in the primaries this year; by contrast, 63% of both Obama and McCain supporters say they voted in a primary.
Fewer than four-in-ten undecided voters (37%) say they are following news about the election very closely. By contrast, majorities of both Obama supporters (56%) and McCain supporters (55%) say they are tracking election news very closely.
Results for this survey are based on telephone interviews conducted under the direction of Princeton Survey Research Associates among a nationwide sample of 1,500 adults, 18 years of age or older, from October 23-26, 2008 (1,125 respondents were interviewed on a landline telephone, and 375 were interviewed on a cell phone, including 127 who had no landline telephone). Both the landline and cell phone samples were provided by Survey Sampling International.
The combined landline and cell phone sample are weighted using an iterative technique that matches gender, age, education, race/ethnicity, region, and population density to parameters from the March 2007 Census Bureau's Current Population Survey. The sample is also weighted to match current patterns of telephone status and relative usage of landline and cell phones (for those with both), based on extrapolations from the 2007 National Health Interview Survey. The weighting procedure also accounts for the fact that respondents with both landline and cell phones have a greater probability of being included in the sample.

Hannity's Soul-Mate of Hate
June 3, 2005
This year a man named Hal Turner sat before his computer at his suburban home in North Bergen, New Jersey, posting bomb-making tips on his website, hailing the firebombing of an apartment containing "Savage Negroes" and calling for the murder of immigrants. "When enough illegal aliens get killed they will stop coming to the country!" Turner wrote.
Turner was once a prominent activist in New Jersey's Republican Party. To area conservatives, he was best known by his moniker for call-ins to the Sean Hannity Show, "Hal from North Bergen." For years, Hannity offered his top-rated radio show as a regular forum for Turner's occasionally racist, always over-the-top rants. Hannity also chatted with him off-air, allegedly offering encouragement to Turner as he struggled to overcome a cocaine habit and homosexual leanings. Turner has boasted that Hannity once invited Turner and his son on to the set of Fox News's Hannity and Colmes. Today, Turner lurks on the fringes of the far right, spouting hate-laced tirades on his webcast radio show. Hannity, meanwhile, remains mum about his former alliance with the neo-Nazi, homing in instead on the supposed racism of black and Latino Democrats.
A former moving company manager and real estate agent, Turner cut his teeth as the Northern New Jersey coordinator for Pat Buchanan's quixotic 1992 presidential campaign. He was an aggressive self-promoter who found a platform for his views on the radio show of Bob Grant, which was broadcast by ABC's flagship station, New York City's WABC. Grant was a pioneer of right-wing radio and, incidentally, a hysterical racist. In March 1995, according to the media watchdog FAIR, Grant entertained the call of a promoter for the neo-Nazi group National Alliance who billed his mission as the "support of European males." "I don't have a problem with the National Alliance!" Grant twice declared. Less than one month later, the Oklahoma City Federal Building was blown up by a white supremacist who said he was influenced by the plot of National Alliance founder William Pierce's pulp novel, The Turner Diaries. Grant insisted on his show for days afterward that Arabs were responsible for the bombing.
WABC came under enormous pressure from the NAACP and other civil rights groups to dump Grant. He had called Haitian refugees "subhuman infiltrators"; remarked that the United States contained "millions of subhumanoids, savages who really would feel more at home careening along the sands of the Kalahari or the dry deserts of eastern Kenya"; and often promoted "The Bob Grant Mandatory Sterilization Program" for minorities. In 1994, after a group of African-American clergy members issued a plea for sponsors to boycott Grant's show, Turner, at the time a frequent voice as a caller on Grant's show, organized a pro-Grant rally in Trenton, which was attended by numerous members of the white supremacist Nationalist Movement. Two years later, WABC finally gave Grant the boot.
WABC tapped Sean Hannity to fill Grant's seat in the broadcast booth. For Hannity, who had spent his career in the wilderness of the right-wing radio circuit, the gig was like a dream. "I'd grown up listening to Bob Grant...one of the most entertaining hosts I'd ever heard," Hannity wrote in his 2002 book, Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism. Hannity started out as a broadcaster at the liberal University of Santa Barbara. "But it didn't last long.... The left-wing management had a zero-tolerance policy for conservative points of view. And I was promptly fired," Hannity wrote. "They didn't like the comments one guest made on the show," he added, without specifying what those comments were. From there, Hannity was hired by the right-wing WVNN in Huntsville, Alabama, and then by WGST in Atlanta, where he filled in for his friend, the "libertarian" broadcaster Neil Boortz. By the time WABC brought him on board, he was already co-hosting Fox News's newly minted Hannity and Colmes, which, as of May, was America's second-rated cable news show, with 1.3 million households viewing each night.
On WABC Hannity inherited Grant's fan base of angry white males, who listened to his show in the New York City area. Hannity recognized his audience's thirst for red meat, racist rhetoric. However, he knew that if he wanted to avoid Grant's fate, he needed an air of deniability. When "Hal from North Bergen" began calling his show, Hannity found he could avoid the dangers of direct race-baiting by simply outsourcing it to Turner.
During an August 1998 episode of the show, Turner reminded Hannity that were it not for the graciousness of the white man, "black people would still be swinging on trees in Africa," according to Daryle Jenkins, co-founder of the New Jersey-based antiracism group One People's Project. Instead of rebuking Turner or cutting him off, Hannity continued to welcome his calls. On December 10 of the following year, Turner called Hannity's show to announce his campaign to run for a seat in the US House of Representatives from New Jersey, and to attack his presumptive opponent, Democratic Representative Robert Menendez, as a "left-wing nut."
By this time, according to Jenkins, Turner and Hannity had bonded off-air. In 1998 Hannity received an anonymous e-mail linking to an AOL discussion board on which Turner had allegedly confessed to a cocaine problem and alluded to past homosexual trysts. Turner (or someone claiming to be Turner) wrote in an August 4, 1998, Google discussion forum that Hannity called him to clear the air: "Just last week, Sean phoned me at home from his job at FOX News to continue a conversation we'd begun earlier while he was at WABC," Turner wrote. "Sean advised that one of you sensitive souls sent him an e-mail about 'revelations I had made' here on the internet. He told me it was obviously and [sic] attempt to 'poison the water.' " Turner continued, "I told him that I've done things I'm not proud of, and had dark times in my life; and those experiences helped shape the way I live today...the right way. He [Hannity] laughed and commented that he knew the feeling." Turner added that such chats with Hannity were "not unusual," often occurring while Hannity held his calls during commercial breaks.
Jenkins told me that while he and a group of antiracism activists demonstrated against a July 17, 2003, National Alliance meeting in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, which Turner attended, he encountered Turner and asked him about his relationship with Hannity. Turner claimed that he and Hannity would talk by phone and even recounted that Hannity had once invited him and his son on to the set of Hannity and Colmes. "In my view," says Jenkins, "I think Hannity has helped Turner out quite a bit. I'm willing to bet most of the conversations they had consisted of them talking shop."
But Turner and Hannity's relationship collapsed in 2000 after the Hudson County Republican Party endorsed Turner's primary challenger, Theresa De Leon, an accomplished businesswoman and dark-skinned Latina. "I had never judged people on their race, not prior to that point," Turner recalled in a February 23, 2003, article in the Bergen County Record. "And there I was, on the receiving end--in America--of a decision that I wasn't good enough because I was a white male." Turner finished last in the primary, just as Hannity was hitting his stride as a major Fox News personality. When WABC's screeners began blocking Turner's calls, he realized he was no longer of use to Hannity.
So Turner took matters into his own hands, purchasing a time slot on the eclectic shortwave radio station WBCQ. For more than four years, Turner unleashed a barrage of hate speech at his perceived enemies--"bull-dyke lesbians," "savage Negro beasts," "filthy mongrels," etc. In 2003 Turner said US District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow was "worthy of being killed" for ruling against white supremacist leader Matthew Hale in a trademark dispute. The day after Lefkow's husband and mother were found murdered on February 28, Turner penned an article for the far-right chat room Liberty Forum outlining tips to help white supremacists avoid scrutiny from federal agents. "So what can we, as White Nationalists (WN), expect as a result [of the killings]?" Turner wrote. "Frankly, a SHIT STORM!" Turner was eventually visited by FBI agents, though when a suspect was arrested, he had no organizational links to white supremacist groups. By this time, Turner had quit the Jewish-owned WBCQ because, as he told the Associated Press, he saw Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ and realized he "could no longer do business with Jews."
Today, as one of America's most recognizable broadcast personalities, Hannity vehemently denounces racism as he sees it. During the 2000 presidential campaign, Hannity demanded time and again that Al Gore fire his black campaign manager, Donna Brazile, for her comment that "we're not gonna let the white boys win." Two years later, during California's gubernatorial recall election, Hannity repeatedly attacked Democratic candidate and Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante as a racist for refusing to renounce his association thirty years prior with the Chicano student group MECHA. Yet Hannity is silent about the racist affiliations of favored guests like Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, Mississippi Republican Governor Haley Barbour and former Republican Congressman Bob Barr, all of whom have spoken before gatherings of America's largest white supremacist group, the Council of Conservative Citizens.
Hannity remains silent, too, about his relationship with his former friend, the neo-Nazi Hal Turner. Whatever he thinks about Turner's politics today, Hannity views his career as a uniquely glorious phenomenon--right-wing hate radio as the American Dream. "This is America, after all," Hannity wrote in Let Freedom Ring. "Whatever you think, you're free to say it out loud--as long as you're prepared to defend it. And if you get lucky...someday you might even get paid for it.
READ AND PASS IT ON.
Republican or Democrat, this is a must read. Our country is at stake no
matter who wins the Presidency. This really is scary and well worth the
read. It is better to be knowledgeable about people before you make
judgments. My hats off to Anne for being so brave to pass this along to
all of us.
Interesting letter from a woman who lives in Wasilla, where Caribou
Barbie was mayor: By Anne Kilkenney
Dear friends,
So many people have asked me about what I know abo ut Sarah Palin in the
last
2 days that I decided to write something up . . .
Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in common:
their gender and their good looks. :)
You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts
with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on
any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .
Thanks,
Anne
ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name
basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council
meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of
the city.
She is enormously popul ar; in every way she's like the most popular girl
in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't vote
for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a
'babe'.
It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.
She is 'pro-life'. She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.
She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.
She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just 'puts things out
there'
and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.
Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin's kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work
schedule so he can fi sh for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in
summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans.
Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.
She's smart.
Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to
hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten
herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise
to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of tax es collected by the City
increased by
38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced
progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which
taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large
corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported?
The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No.
$1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex
which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City
didn't even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs
later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself
is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the
profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for
$5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any
borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make
us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed
distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.
In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she
proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus,
borrow for needs.
She's not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren't generated by her
or her staff. Ideas weren't evaluated on their merits, but on the basis
of who proposed them.
While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied
to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at
out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her
termination letter.
People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies
list to this day.
Sarah complained about the "old boy's club" when she first ran for
Mayor, so
what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of 'old boys'. Palin fired most of < BR>
the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she
hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff
totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and
fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her
personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of
pressuring the State's top cop (see below).
As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla's Police Chief because he "intimidated"
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and
she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an
important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't
fire her sister's
ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she
has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her
staff and family t o the person that she later fired, pressuring him to
fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with
a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this
caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.
She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help.
The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn't like
the guy were stunned
by this ruthlessness.
Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.
When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the
few jobs not in Junea u and one of the best paid. She had no background
in
oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid
$122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I
was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the
work.
Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the
State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on
the job.
In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political
suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the
job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint
of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she
dramatically quit, exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he
was fined).
As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator
Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigat ed his pork-barrel politics and
publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after
it became clear that it would be unwise not to.
As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork".
She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.
Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They
call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories
circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point
guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a
highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran
for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.
As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to
the beat of her drum.
Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global
warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State's
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior's dec ision to list polar bears
as threatened species.
McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.
There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.
However, there's a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.
CLAIM VS FACT
*"Hockey mom": true for a few years
*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school,
not since *"NRA supporter": absolutely true *social conservative: mixed.
Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits
to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was
unconsitutional).
*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
promote it.
*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby BUT
declined to call a special legi slative session on some pro-life
legislation
*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No
legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
*political maverick: not at all
*gutsy: absolutely!
*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining
actions.
*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no *"a Greenie": no.
Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected
parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets
to early 20th century standards.
*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
residents *pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city
government in Wasilla's history.
*pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn't
make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is
pro-labor/pro-union.
WHY AM I WRITING THIS?
First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed
voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting
programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska),
you will find references to my participation in local government,
education, and PTA/parent organizations.
Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that 'Bad things happen
when good people stay silent'. Few people know as much as I do because
few have gone to as many City Council meetings.
Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out of.
I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool;
she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me
somehow in the future: that's life.
Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100
or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's
attempt at censorship.
Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to
say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.
CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in
spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)
from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of
Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust
for inflation?
for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private
person
to get any info out of Cit y Hall--they are swamped. So I can't verify my
numbers.
You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the
population of Wasilla, ranging from my 'about 5,000', up to 9,000. The
day Palin's selection was announced a city official told me that the
current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was
5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to
2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90's.

Well, that’s it. It’s over. America voted, and it was clear that she was not as popular as her competitors. So, she went home.
You know I’m talking about “American Idol’s” Syesha, right? Hillary Clinton is still hanging on. All the odds are against her now, and with the endorsement of John Edwards and his delegates going to Barack Obama, I can’t see how she can continue. But whatever it is that’s driving her, that’s pushing her, that’s making her feel like she’s supposed to be there when numbers and logic and pundits are telling her she shouldn’t be, we all should have.
I don’t know if it’s her supporters, Bill, or the pantsuits. I can’t figure it out. Well, maybe I can, sort of.
I come from a small town, Tuskegee, Alabama, where the majority of the community was made up of well-educated, ambitious black people. The children of these hard working Negroes were taught by example to work hard and dream big. There was nothing we thought we couldn’t achieve.
I don’t know that much about Hillary or how she was raised, but I know a fighter when I see one. You don’t fight this hard unless you’re accustomed to winning. But there are different kinds of winners — those who win because they’re really the best and those who win because of who they are and who they know. Some people think they should win because they’ve paid their dues, played by the rules and attained success. Some people think they are entitled to that success — that in spite of the rules, in spite of the laws, in spite of the people, they deserve to have what they want, and they’re willing to fight for it any cost. This feeling of entitlement will give you the confidence, the spirit, the power to stay in a race when everyone says you should quit, when everyone says you can’t win, when everyone tells you it’s over.
When Hillary finally has to bow out, I hope that Barack will be able to go into this thing with the same kind of fight. As Tavis pointed out Tuesday, when Obama becomes the nominee, the heat will be turned up like never before. There will be days he will wonder whether he can or should go on. He’s got to fight with everything he has, and when he’s got nothing else to give, he’s still got find a way to keep swinging.
There’s something in each of us who aspires to be successful that continues to drive us when our tank is low. I was once a member of the Commodores, but quit the group before Lionel and the guys blew up. I felt so stupid when I saw how well they were doing that I wasn’t going to stop until I’d achieved something that would make me stop regretting my decision to quit.
What is it that made you keep going in spite of the odds? If you have a story of being down and out, but you somehow found the strength to continue, share that story. Maybe it will inspire someone in else in their darkest hour, in the fight of their life, to press forward.
What do you think about the words Rev Wright has been saying. Well I think he is right in saying what he said because it is the truth. We are still living i an era of racism. Why are they using his words to define Obama? I think it is a plot to undermind Obama's campain. Something from the past: Bill Clinton's affair. Does it make Hillary emoral? I think not. We hover on others words and can't think for ourselves. We worry about what others think about us and don't and think good of ourselves. Look in the mirror and ask yourself do I love me? I will not let the words and thought of another define me. I suffer from an disease with no cure in site. As my health gets worse I look at it as a blessing because I will never surrender or quit I am to strong for that. Love all of you and GOD BLESS.
The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. Beloved, love and hate are both powerful emotions. They can be interchanged easily and often. In fact, they can be changed within a blink of an eye… and then with another blink– reversed again. It is the ebb and flow of a lot of relatiosnhips between co-workers, friends, spouses, coaches and players. However, when you are indifferent and can be void of feelings, completely neutral, about a person or a situation is when there is no emotion involved.
Love is a beautiful and powerful emotion that has the ability to give life. Hate is a negative emotion that acts as a mental cancer. It will continue to spread until it manifests itself in actual somatic complaints– finally resulting in psychoses or death. My friends, do not let a person, a job, or a situation allow you to become a person with a dark heart. Do not let anyone or anything lead you to a path of bitterness and frustration. Know that love conquers all. All hate does is wound the receiver, but conquers and kills the giver.
Keeping it Real: BROTHERS BE ALERT. BE VIGILANT. BE AWARE!! LEARN FROM MARTIN LAWRENCE. “HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED.” THERE IS A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE. WATCH YOUR ACTIONS OR WATCH FOR THE GRITS. SISTERS, BE ALERT. BE CAREFUL. BE VIGILANT. SOME OF THESE MONDAYS ARE CRAZY OUT HERE. YOU MAY THINK YOU ARE SLICK, YOU MAY THINK YOU ARE GETTING OVER, BUT IT MAY BE THE WRONG DUDE ON THE WRONG DAY.
Bottom Line: STALKERS ARE EASILY CREATED BECAUSE PERCEPTION IS REALITY. EVEN IF THAT PERCEPTION IS FAULTY.
For my stalkers. Quit stalking. No means no. Have some dignity and pride. You might be a stalker if:
FYI: Some stalkers are unaware they are stalkers. All stalking situations do not have to have romantic links. Stalkers actually have a misguided belief that the other person is truly in love with them or that they must show this transgressor "the way" in a vigilante type of justice (e.g., Lynn Whitfield in A Thin Line).
Hear and Take Heed.
This has been a PSA from the BLAQUESMITH
For the longest, black pundits have been speaking about Barack being held 'accountable' to black folks and our issues but how in the heck can we hold him accountable if we don't put him in office!?! It's about time we quit all this jive and actually do our community AND the world some good (for a change) and vote for this man. Only then will we be able to actual hold him accountable. We will be able to say to him when he's Leader of the Free World, " Look we put you in office because we believed you, now you MUST be held accountable." Until, we do our part and support him, then everyone need to shut up with the criticism. IF not him, then who?? Hillary?!? Are you kidding me? Now, I will say that if Barack was not a candidate, I would definitely support Hillary, BUT GUESS WHAT FOLKS, Barack has entered the dern building and EVERYONE is taking notice (even those who don't want to). This man is speaking the truth and what can conquer the truth? What he is doing with his grassroot campaign is simply unheard of! Politicians are in awe. They have already seen the change this man has brought to campaigning-- something NO other has dared to do (believe in the 'little man', engage everday working people". We have not let him down. We will not let him down. A vote for Barack is a vote for yourself regardless of your race. Why? Because the change he is going to bring about will benefit your children and your children's children. Know that CHANGE IN WASHINGTON is next! I love that he has challenged the status quo and has been so successful at it. Call it arrogance, Call it elitism -- Barack commands attention because of his engaging confidence which is an essential quality for every leader.
Now, I have enough love in my heart for both Barack and Tavis. Though I've not particularly cared for Tavis' views during this election season, I respect what he has to say and have continued to listen. Now I wish he would respect the will of his listeners and know that he has given many of us a political conscience over the years, and we are grateful for that. We are now exercising our on judgement in overwhelming numbers (not betraying Tavis)
and perhaps he should step back and see why we are so hell bent on seeing Barack through without assuming we are doing it only because he is black. NO! This brother is special. Special in many respects. Successfully bringing about the change we need is just one of them.
Regarding Tavis Smiley resignation and his love for Black people...Black People have to want to love themselves, before loving others...Futhermore, we Black people aren't looking for surrogate mothers/fathers to love us, we have our own, and for those who don't, well they'll turn to someone they know, not a radio personality...Tavis is a very intelligent person, with strong polictal views and ideas about what he perceives, are the problems that Black Americans face, but truth be told our issues are the same as any other American (Healthcare, Afforable Housing, Better Wages and Earnings, etc)...This isn't a Black issue, this is an American issue, and this is what Obama is focused on...Personally, why can't black Americans rally for a Black Candidate, based on Ethniticy only...Hell, the Whites and Hispanics have been doing it for years, whether in the White House or the Governor's office...So Let us as a people vote for someone who finally looks like us, DAMN...If Tavis wants to quit being a radio commentary for TJMS, so beit...The truth of the matter is that people tune in to hot105 because they want too, not because of single factors...I've been tuning into Hot105 over the years, to listen to Jay-Anthony Brown's humor, Sybil's sarcastic remarks, Tom Joyner's gift giving to mother's, HBCU's, disater victims, etc..., and lastly, because of the old school melodies...So Please, give your staff and yourself some credit for being the reason for your listening audience, and don't try to lecture Black Americans about our views on any level...Miami Old School Listener...
As boring as the presidential debate on Wednesday night was, everybody was talking it about on Thursday. Everybody except our political commentator, Tavis Smiley. I’m not trying to put him on blast, but I have to wonder why on earth the man who is never at a loss for words -- especially when it comes to his feelings about the candidates’ accountability to black people -- didn’t say a word about that debate.
The commentary he did on breast cancer was warm and moving, and I know it had an impact on anyone who has lost a loved one the disease. I’m one of those people. My heart goes out to Cheryl, the woman on Tavis’ staff who is bravely undergoing chemo treatments, and we are all praying for the best. As we celebrate “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day,” we hope that his commentary will encourage women to do self exams and to get their yearly mammograms without fail. As Tavis pointed out, black women die from breast cancer more than white women do. Early detection of the disease will help close the gap.
But why didn’t Tavis say anything about the presidential debate? Granted, he told us he went to the Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige concert and was out very late. But he’s got to have TiVo or DVR or, at the very least, an assistant who could have given him the highlights of the evening. My theory is that he deliberately didn’t mention the debate, and that is troubling to me. It’s troubling because whether you agree or disagree with everything that comes out of his mouth, no one does political commentary better than Tavis. For years, he has deciphered political mumble-jumble and put it in a tight, concise five-minute package that even I could understand. Sometimes all I could do was marvel and say, “Break it down, Tavis, break it down!” I miss those days.
When I looked at the responses to Tavis’ Tuesday commentary when he told us he was leaving the show because he had so many new and exciting opportunities to pursue, a lot of you flat out didn’t buy it. You held firm to your belief that he couldn’t take the criticism he was getting for being critical of Obama. I have to take him at his word and believe that he believes it’s time for him to move on.
But before does move on at the end of June, I want him to help me keep the promise I made to you all. I told you that he would keep doing what he had been doing -- saying things that made a lot of you upset. It’s not like the Tavis I know to retreat in the heat of battle. The Tavis I know fights even harder when he’s backed into a corner. The Tavis I know would have and should have been outraged at the presidential debate, and he would have gladly told us why.
I hope all of you who complained bitterly about the way Tavis was doing his job are starting to see what he was trying do. With no heat on the candidates to discuss issues important to black people, we may just see more of the same.
Listen to Tavis' Commentary
Tavis, as an educator, I often assign your blogs, thoughts and comments to my high school students. I believe your mom was also an educator. You KNOW the struggles we face...Daily! You just have NO IDEA how insightful your words are to youths and many more. Don't QUIT ON THEM, DON'T QUIT ON ME, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY DON"T QUIT ON YOUR M-I-S-S-I-O-N! Much Love K.Paris
Tavis is acting like Black America owes him the right to say is opinion is the only viable opinion. Tavis has been angry with Obama since his State of Black America forum. Being in his personal upraoar that Obama did not make the march, the persons who could have taken his omissions diffferently were adult enough to accept the fact that this person had a previous committment. Yet, Clinton and McCain only made cursory appearance BEFORE THE MARCH, and when no one was there. I agree with Rev. Abernathy, none of the candidates were there. Yet, Obama called the Kinf Family and Reverned Abenrathy personally and they understood. So Tavis, why are you in sheets because BLACK AMERICA spoke up about your childish behavior in the text. Yes, you have offered some intersting facts, things for people to think about, etc. However, BLACK AMERICANS CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES, and does not have to agree with every person opinion. Everyone did not agree with Martin King's ideas and wors, but he MARTIN did not say I QUIT..... It was very manly to not come and make the march a political forum.....and take away from why people where there to march and to honor. Sometime it is better not to speak on a subject, if you cannot be objective in the public forum. So Tavis, if you wish to QUIT,,,,then so be it. A man who would sit at their mother's table for 2 years and not speak to her, can say little, if anything at all, as to what is right and what is wrong.
I was very shocked to hear that Tavis Smiley wants to leave the TJMS. His commentaries are some of the most intelligent and imporant on air. I also hope that it is not because of criticism for not endorsing Senator Obama. That is no reason to quit the show. I hope he reflects on the fact that the first amendment -- freedom of speech -- is still the law of the land and that he also accepts the fact that black folks disagreeing is the law of the black land. I also, hope he understands that he should not be upset because Sen. Obama did not attend the State of the Black Union meeting or did not go to Memphis last April 4th. Attending these meetings and events will not tell us anything about what Sen. Obama will do should he make it to the White House. It also will not tell us anything about what Sen. Clinton or Sen. McCain will do should they make it to the White House. We need to stop putting so much emphasis on things symbolic (yes, I consider the State of the Black Union meeting symbolic because it was limited in its scope and focus) and concentrate on what a President of the United States really can do. Constitutionally, a U.S. President needs support in Congress to advance their agenda. Usually, a majority vote is sufficient, but to make significant change, a U.S. President needs 357 votes in Congress (67 votes in the U.S. Senate) to make major changes. Will Sen. Obama, Clinton or McCain have those votes next January 20th? This is what we need to think about. I beleive that brother Tavis has the intellect and insight to help us think about this question. Ihope he reconsiders his decision to leave the TJMS.
