It's evident Tancredo is only concerned about racism when it furthers his bigoted agenda.
Yesterday, former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo attacked Judge Sonia Sotomayor for being a member of the National Council of La Raza, absurdly likening the civil rights organization to "a Latino KKK without the hoods or nooses."
Tancredo's outlandish cries of racism are difficult to take seriously considering his own well-documented bigotry. However, the conservative blog Little Green Footballs has flagged a lesser known story demonstrating Tancredo's embrace of intolerance. Apparently, the executive director of Tancredo's anti-immigrant Team America PAC (also executive director of Pat Buchanan's group, The American Cause) pled guilty to "verbally and physically assaulting a black woman" and will be sentenced in July. According to the Factual Proffer from the case:
Had this case gone to trial, the Government's evidence would have shown beyond a reasonable doubt the following facts:
On July 7, 2007 at approximately 7:15 p.m., at Jefferson and M Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C., defendant was walking down the street when he encountered the complainant, Ms. [Redacted], who is African-American. The defendant uttered, "[N*****]," as he delivered a karate chop to [complainant's] head. Ms. [Redacted]'s [redacted] attempted to detain defendant, but defendant was able to escape. Ultimately, the defendant was stopped and arrested by Secret Service officers.
The defendant, Marcus Epstein, is still featured prominently on Team America's website nearly two years after the crime. So, it's evident Tancredo is only "concerned" about racism when it furthers his bigoted agenda. (Though there is absolutely nothing racist about Sotomayor or La Raza.)

Self - hate in the worse way.
Tom Tancredo, the former Colorado congressman and radical anti-immigration activist, stepped up his attacks on judge Sonia Sotomayor Thursday. Appearing on CNN, Tancredo suggested that Sotomayor's affiliation with the National Council of La Raza, a Latino civil rights group, was equivalent to being a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
TANCREDO: If you belong to an organization called La Raza, in this case, which is, from my point of view anyway, nothing more than a Latino -- it's a counterpart -- a Latino KKK without the hoods or the nooses. If you belong to something like that in a way that's going to convince me and a lot of other people that it's got nothing to do with race. Even though the logo of La Raza is "All for the race. Nothing for the rest." What does that tell you?
SANCHEZ: Alright. We're not talking about -- we're not talking about La Raza --TANCREDO: She's a member! She's a member of La Raza!
The only problem with Tancredo's claim is that "All for the race. Nothing for the rest." is not La Raza's motto. Instead, the group's motto is the utterly uncontroversial "Strengthening America by promoting the advancement of Latino families."
The phrase that Tancredo incorrectly links to Sotomayor is, in fact, found only in the founding documents a wholly different group to which Sotomayor has no known affiliation.
The La Raza claim is just the latest in a series of racially-tinged attacks that conservatives have been making against Sotomayor. On Tuesday, just after President Obama announced Sotomayer's nomination to the Supreme Court, Tancredo told MSNBC's Ed Schultz that Sotomayor has said plenty of "things that are racist."
Indeed, Tancredo, who ran for president in 2008 on an anti-immigration platform, is no stranger to racist comments. One of his campaign ads suggested that illegal immigrants are likely to be terrorists and he has been behind efforts to deport all illegal immigrants from the country and outlaw immigration to the U.S..

For those of us who are old enough to remember L. Frank Baum’s classic novel, “The Wizard of Oz”, we can recollect with childlike giddiness, the many perils that Dorothy and her impromptu entourage encountered as they journeyed together hand in hand through open fields of exotic poisonous flora and enchanted forests that were inhabited by demons and witches. Yet, in spite of the many obstacles and dangers that Dorothy and her group faced, they remained a team, steadfast and focused as they followed the path of the yellow brick road. The purpose of their journey was to obtain an audience with a “larger than life” wizard that ruled a magical land that was named “The Emerald City”. Each member of this team was hopeful that the wizard would empower them individually with a unique gift that would make their lives complete and happy. As it turned out, the wizard was a fraud and Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, were already endowed with their “unique gift” that they had hoped to receive from the charlatan who pretended to be a great and powerful wizard.
In reality, much like the fictional characters in L. Frank Baum’s classic novel, President Barak Obama and his administration are currently traveling on their own “yellow brick road”, a road that ultimately leads them to multiple “Emerald Cities”. As it appears, metaphorically speaking, the President and his “traveling entourage” will sometimes trek on roads that are both dark and dangerous. This “yellow brick road” will lead them to cities both ancient and new. Washington, D.C., Tehran, Baghdad and Kabul are some of the places that his caravan must travel to, in hope of establishing through the use of diplomacy, foundations of peace and prosperity. In route to these metropolises are very real dangers that threaten life, limb and economic stability. It is imperative for the sake of all Americans (and the world) that the President stay focused on the multiple dangers that exist from both foreign and domestic enemies. Let us not be naïve, these enemies are real. They threaten the President’s attempt to stabilize America and American interests by the use of false friendship, misinformation, fear, lies and old prejudices.
A key weapon that our President possesses that assists him in his daily combat against domestic enemies is his ability to multitask. President Obama is able to analyze, design and implement more than one plan at a time and as his enemies try to invent a singular plan to discredit and obstruct the President’s agenda of lifting the “veil of darkness” from past American actions and policies, his enemies due to their inability to “keep up” with the President, often become frustrated and resort to name calling. (As illustrated in their McCarthy like tactic of branding the President as being a socialist and communist) It only stands to reason as President Obama becomes more “seasoned” as the leader of the “Free world”, that he will only get better at utilizing the unique gifts that he already possesses as he interacts with the “wizards” who dwell in both domestic and foreign “Emerald Cities”.
Now, in regard to last week’s pseudo patriotic “Tea Parties” which were held in a handful of cities and towns across the country, let there be no misunderstanding, the highly politicized “Tea parties” that were televised mostly on Fox News and CNN (Lou Dobbs) were mostly “I hate Obama” demonstrations. These demonstrations were monetarily sponsored by Republican Party lobbyists who represent the political “pushback” that has come mostly from the multibillion dollar health insurance and banking industries that genuinely have great disdain for the changes that President Obama represents to their particular industry. In regard to the majority of the “Tea Party” participants, it truly boggles the mind how these mindless sheep who call themselves patriots, did not plan or organize not one single demonstration against the Gestapo like GW Bush administration even though these so-called patriots were aware that the Bush administration was selling out their children and their grandchildren to the Communist Chinese for untold billions of dollars a month in loans to fight an ambiguous war in Iraq, a war that was and is ironically being fought by (guess who) their children and their grandchildren. One can only imagine that these mindless sheep dream (as promised in the official Republican Party Gestapo handbook) of one day being promoted from being plantation share croppers to becoming actual plantation owners. (Yeah right…keep drinking the Republican Kool-Aid) What’s really sad for America is that these “I hate Obama” demonstrations which are Republican sponsored, have also attracted a fairly large amount of Neo Nazis and KKK members / sympathizers. It is probable that this amalgamation of extreme right wing ideology and racial hate will only spawn more homegrown anti-government terrorists like Timothy McVeigh, (Oklahoma City bomber) Randy Weaver (of Ruby Ridge infamy) and Branch Davidian leader David Koresh. The Republican Party’s quest to discredit and defame President Obama, (in the name of world dominance and political ideology), have become Dr. Frankenstein, creating a monster that they cannot and will not be able to control and the Tea Party demonstrators that blindly follow a leaderless Republican Party, have unwittingly become Dr. Frankenstein’s “Igor”. Yes, Mr. President, the yellow brick road that leads to the multiple “Emerald Cities” across the United States and the world is a very dangerous road to be travelling on.
Last week, as details came across the news media that three Somali teenagers who were impersonating pirates by kidnapping and holding for ransom an American merchant marine sea captain, were killed by Navy Seals sharp shooters, and the lone surviving “pirate” was being held in American custody, I was relieved that President Obama passed his first test / encounter with terrorism. Republican Party naysayers were silenced as our President calmly demonstrated his ability to again, analyze, design and implement a plan that led to the rescue of an American citizen abroad. Kudos Mr. President.
In closing, I am amazed that most Americans are in “shock” as details unfold about the torture of suspected 9/11 terrorists as directed by GW and his boyz by the CIA and the military. In retrospect, I’m reminded of the movie, “A few good men”, starring Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Tom Cruise and Kevin Bacon, remembering the scene when Tom Cruise portraying a Navy JAG defense lawyer traps the hardcore Marine Colonel as portrayed by Jack Nicholson into admitting that a marine was tortured and killed by fellow marines. I’ll never forget Jack Nicholson as his character defiantly stood up and accused Tom Cruise of not being able to “handle the truth”. This is precisely how I feel about America’s “shock” and “disbelief” of how a “cowboy administration” supported by fake Christians, “handled their business” as they sought to find evidence (by any means necessary) for going to war against Iraq. If I sense that those who read my articles are truly interested in the topic of torture, I will dedicate an article next week to that topic, however, until then, I caution President Obama on shinning a light in places that have a history of being devoid of light. So, President Obama, please remember what happened to JFK as he exposed the demons and witches that lived in the haunted forests that you and your administration must trek through. Lions and tigers and bears….oh my.
Somebody please tell Oprah that the county in Georgia, you know the one she visited in the 80's to do a show and the KKK ran her out saying they didn't want any N------s up there, (Forsyth County) that a woman's house was burned to the ground while she was in DC for the inauguration. The news said that the woman was white and an Obama supporter and was the only one in the neighborhood that had an Obama sign in her lawn. She had been receiving hate letters and voice mails so she took the sign down. Over the weekend, they burned it beyond recognition and spray painted on the fence something like "your black boy will die". What is appalling to me is that we are letting the Forsyth county law enforcement and fire chief investigate this. Do you know what he said on the news? He said that he will not call the vandalism anything but "Graffitti"! How can we let them investigate this? Where is the FBI? Somebody needs to be up the behinds of these folks.
Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are members of a minority: They are a black married couple.
Wed 16 years in October, the Obamas conceived their two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, after the wedding. While traditional couplehood such as the Obamas' is losing popularity in every corner of the country, it has all but disappeared in black America, where more than 70 percent of children are born outside marriage.
In 2006, The Washington Post published an op-ed essay by writer Joy Jones with the provocative headline, "Marriage is for White People." The headline didn't reflect Jones' views; it repeated "what one of my students told me some years back when I taught a career exploration class for sixth-graders at an elementary school in southeast Washington (D.C.).
"I think I'll invite some couples in to talk about being married and rearing children," she told the class." 'Oh, no,' objected one student. 'We're not interested in the part about marriage. Only about how to be good fathers.' And that's when the other boy chimed in ... 'Marriage is for white people.'"

Spelman, with a student body of about 2,200, sent 150 black students on to Ph.D. degrees in those traditionally male disciplines from 1997 to 2006, according to a survey released in August by the National Science Foundation. That’s more than any other undergraduate program in the country except the much larger, coed Howard University, with 224. Howard, also historically black, has about 7,000 undergraduates.

You can almost hear the groans in the caves on the Afghan-Pakistan border. "What's going on?! Why can't they just keep rendering and torturing people?!"
A couple of years ago, the battle between American and al-Qaida propagandists for the Muslim world's hearts and minds was an easy one for Osama Bin Laden's men. The group didn't have to do much apart from point out all those instances of death, destruction and torture that showed how what America said bared little resemblance to what it did.
Barack Obama's victory challenges the perceptions that form the foundation of al-Qaida's worldview, and it has left its supporters a little confused. The group's propaganda plays up the idea that the US is run by a coalition of rich, white, self-serving businessmen and politicians who use the word "freedom" to persuade the poor to fight for them.
In a message posted on the Counterterrorism Blog in January, al-Qaida's Adam Gadahn repeated some of the organisation's favourite themes: "Muslims, of course, are much better acquainted [than the American public] with what is right and who the victim is and realise that right isn't whatever is said, done and commanded by Western presidents, prime ministers, and televangelists.
"Muslims know what true values are… like liberating oneself and others from oppression, like honour, dignity and self-respect, like chastity and moral uprightness, like truth in word and deed, like showing mercy to the innocent, defenceless, and helpless, and fighting for them, and like giving one's life for these values."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that a "crisis of confidence" exists between Russia and the United States but that he has "great aspirations" for the incoming Obama administration.
Medvedev, in Washington for the G-20 economic summit, said he hoped to meet with President-elect Barack Obama soon.
"We have that understanding," he said.
Medvedev has expressed concern that a U.S. missile-defense program that would put radar and missiles in the Czech Republic and Poland would threaten Russia.
Medvedev announced this month that Russia would place short-range ballistic missiles near its border with Poland, in Kaliningrad, to defend Russia from the U.S. missiles. The State Department had responded by calling the announcement "disappointing."
However, Medvedev backpedaled from the statement last week and continued to do so Saturday, saying Russia "really does not want to deploy anything." He added that Russia "will not do anything until the U.S. takes the first step."
Medvedev said Russia and the U.S. have to agree on a global system to protect against rogue states and that he is ready to discuss it with the new president.

Incidents around the country referring to President-elect Barack Obama are dampening the postelection glow of racial progress and harmony, highlighting the stubborn racism that remains in America.
From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.
There have been "hundreds" of incidents since the election, many more than usual, said Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate crimes.

American TV presenter/producer DON CORNELIUS has been charged with spousal abuse, dissuading a witness from filing a police report and assault with a deadly weapon, following a dispute with his wife.
The 72-year-old former host and creator of Soul Train was arrested last month (17Oct08) after cops were called to the Hollywood Hills home he shares with his wife Victoria.
On Friday (14Nov08) the Los Angeles City Attorney charged him with five misdemeanour offences, including three counts of abusing Victoria.
Cornelius faces five years in prison if convicted.

AP – UN special envoy, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo arrives in Goma, eastern Congo, Saturday … JOMBA, Congo – Congo's main rebel leader promised a U.N. envoy Sunday to support a cease-fire and U.N. efforts to end the fighting, and the diplomat said he hoped the warring sides would hold peace talks in Kenya.
As more heavy fighting was reported in eastern Congo, the envoy, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, met with rebel leader Laurent Nkunda for the first time, after talking in recent days with President Joseph Kabila and the leader of neighboring Angola.
Obasanjo flew by helicopter to the rebel-held town of Jomba, near the Ugandan border, and was greeted with a hug by the gray-suited Nkunda. After a two-hour meeting in a church compound, Obasanjo said the rebel leader agreed to maintain a fragile cease-fire in the Central African nation.
"(But) cease-fire maintenance is like dancing tango. One does not dance tango alone," Obasanjo noted.

I was watching Larry King on CNN tonight and one of his guest stated that we have Keith Olbermann and they have Rush Limbaugh. There is a vast difference in Keith Olberman and Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh is trying to start a race riot and he is trying to rise up the minds of those who had put their KKK Regalia away. He is calling for these people to go out and buy guns and prepare to kill. There was several KKK instances lately. A woman is overcome on November 4 after hearing that Barack Obama had been elected president.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- For most African-Americans, the election of Barack Obama as president was a dream come true that they didn't think they would see in their lifetime, a national poll released Tuesday suggests.
Eighty percent of African-Americans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey said that Obama's election was a dream come true, and 71 percent said they never thought a black candidate for president would get elected in their lifetime.
The poll reflects anecdotal evidence that surfaced across the country last week as soon as Obama's projected win was announced.
"It's history," said iReporter Tave Johnson, who spent Election Night at the Grant Park Obama rally in Chicago, Illinois. "I'm half-black and half-white. I talked to my grandparents today, and they told me this is historic. To be honest ... I never would have guessed it would happen."
Among white Americans, only 28 percent said Obama's victory in the race for the White House was a dream come true, with the vast majority, 70 percent, saying it was not.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Bernie Conatser has never seen business this good.
The owner of a gun shop in the Washington suburb of Manassas, Virginia, Conatser said sales have doubled or tripled since this time last year.
On Saturday, he said, he did as much business as he would normally do in a week.
"I have been in business for 12 years, and I was here for Y2K, September 11, Katrina," Conatser said, as a steady stream of customers browsed what remained of his stock. "And all of those were big events, and we did notice a spike in business, but nothing on the order of what we are seeing right now."
Weapons dealers in much of the United States are reporting sharply higher sales since Barack Obama won the presidency a week ago.
Buyers and sellers attribute the surge to worries that Obama and a Democratic-controlled Congress will move to restrict firearm ownership, despite the insistence of campaign aides that the president-elect supports gun rights and considers the issue a low priority.

UNITED NATIONS - Hundreds of Congolese soldiers have rampaged through several villages in eastern Congo, the U.N. said Tuesday, alleging that the soldiers were raping women and pillaging homes as they pulled back ahead of a feared rebel advance.
U.N. peacekeeping spokesman Col. Jean-Paul Dietrich said the army troops had reportedly raped civilians near the town of Kanyabayonga in overnight violence that lasted into Tuesday morning. Kanyabayonga is 60 miles north of the provincial capital, Goma.
Dietrich said 700 to 800 Congolese soldiers fled Kanyabayonga and went on a rampage through several villages to the north.

COVINGTON, La. – After a Ku Klux Klan initiation at a Louisiana campsite went awry, authorities said, a recruit who tried to back out was shot dead. The body of the woman, who traveled from Oklahoma, was dumped on a rural roadside and covered with brush. Her belongings were set aflame.
But the cover-up was stillborn: The body was found Monday, a day after the shooting. By Tuesday, a local Klan leader sat in jail on a second-degree murder charge, and seven others were charged with trying to help conceal the crime.
"The IQ level of this group is not impressive, to be kind," St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain said Tuesday.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was recruited over the Internet to participate in the ritual and then return to her home state to find other members for the white supremacist group, Strain said.
It wasn't clear what rites awaited her at the campsite, but authorities believe the initiation had begun by the time the shooting happened. Strain said the group's leader, Raymond "Chuck" Foster, 44, shot and killed her Sunday night after a fight broke out when she asked to be taken back to town.

No. 2 Klan group on trial in Ky. teen's beating
DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (AP) -- The 28-acre compound that the nation's second-largest Ku Klux Klan outfit calls home features a high gate with armed guards, a stage for the group's annual gatherings and an open field for burning crosses.
The Southern Poverty Law Center wants to take it all away.
On these tranquil grounds amid western Kentucky's low, rolling hills, the Imperial Klans of America incited members to severely beat a Latino teen at a county fair, the civil rights group contends in a lawsuit. The center hopes its case will bankrupt this Klan group, a tactic the center has used to decimate other racist organizations.
Jury selection begins Wednesday in Meade County, about 40 miles south of Louisville and 120 miles from the compound.
"We want to put a stop to this kind of violence," said Richard Cohen, president of the center, which is suing on behalf of the victim. "They issue thinly veiled calls to violence."
The Meade County Sheriff's Office has added patrols and some security at the courthouse but is not expecting trouble, said Deputy Sheriff Dan McCubbin.
The case stems from a 2006 attack on Jordan Gruver that left the teen with two cracked ribs, a broken left forearm, cuts and bruises. The center claims Jarred Hensley of Cincinnati and Andrew Watkins of Louisville were recruiting on behalf of the Klan at the Meade County fair, about two hours east of their headquarters, and attacked Gruver because he is Latino.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- In his first interview since conceding the presidential election, John McCain said Tuesday that Sarah Palin did not damage his presidential bid and he dismissed anonymous criticism aimed at her following their crushing defeat.
"I'm so proud of her and I'm very grateful she agreed to run with me. She inspired people, she still does," McCain told Jay Leno during a "Tonight Show" interview taped for broadcast Tuesday night. "I couldn't be happier with Sarah Palin."
In an interview that mingled flashes of humor with political analysis, McCain did little to deflect responsibility from himself. He alluded to the difficult political environment for Republicans nationwide and conceded, "I could tell you a lot of things that we may have made mistakes on." He never listed them.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Obama, who campaigned against lobbyists' influence, on Tuesday opened the door for them to work for him if they sign an ethics code that restricts their role in and out of government.
Lobbyists can work for Obama's transition if they stop their advocacy efforts and avoid working in any field that they lobbied on in the last year. They also must pledge not to lobby the Obama administration on the same matters they focused on during the transition for a year after leaving Obama's service.
The ethics policy allows Obama to hire any of the some 22,000 federally registered lobbyists who could be valuable assets because of their government experience, even though Obama railed against their influence on the campaign trail.
Obama transition co-chair John Podesta announced the lobbyist policy at the first news conference in the transition headquarters briefing room, set up with a backdrop of a White House-like blue curtain and U.S. flags. Interest in the Obama plans are high — the briefing room is much larger than at the White House, and media from around the world packed it to standing-room only even though no cameras were allowed.
Podesta said the transition will have a budget of $12 million. Taxpayers pick up $5.2 million, and Podesta said the rest would be raised from individuals with a $5,000 per-person contribution limit. He said lobbyists, corporations and political action committees will be banned from donating.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Obama suggested to President Bush that the administration immediately help struggling U.S. automakers, aides to the Democrat say, in the first face-to-face meeting the pair had since Obama's election victory. Obama's aides said the president-elect on Monday brought up the issue with Bush and discussed with him the need for urgent action. The Illinois senator's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said only that the talks during Obama's first post-election victory to the White House were mostly "about the broad health of the industry" and were not just limited to any one of the three largest car makers.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asked the administration over the weekend to consider expanding the $700 billion bailout for financial firms to include car companies. At a news conference last Friday, Obama said he hoped the Bush administration would "do everything it can to accelerate the retooling assistance that Congress has already enacted." He also said that helping the auto industry was a high priority for his transition team.

Drug costs for seniors growing
The rising costs "are wreaking havoc on seniors' wallets and are simply not sustainable in the long run," says Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Overall, the Medicare drug program is costing taxpayers less than originally estimated. The government's drug spending on the program fell by 12% to $44 billion in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, largely from the widespread use of low-cost generic drugs. The government pays part of the drugs' costs for seniors and helps subsidize premiums for low-income people.
Still, seniors have seen their actual expenses for premiums and drug co-payments go up each year. Insurers have raised prices for many reasons, including increases to cover higher drug costs and more prescriptions filled.

MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (CBS) ― Some Orange County high school students are sticking their necks out to defy authority after the school board set a ban on scarves when a boy wore a scarf that was interpreted as a form of "gang paraphernalia."
It seems like a ridiculous ruling with winter weather around the corner, but Valley Central High School aren't kidding around. No neckwear, period.
Senior Brittney Michelle Smith told CBS 2 she's one of several students who was disciplined for refusing to remove her scarf at the Montgomery school.
"I'm going to college to be a state trooper, so I don't want anything to do with gangs! It's fashion and to keep warm," she said.
It all began last Thursday when a student wore a scarf to school. An administrator looked at the scarf and decided it was some kind of show of support for gangs.
Students say the boy denied supporting gangs.

NEW ORLEANS — Obese children as young as 10 had the arteries of 45-year-olds and other heart abnormalities that greatly raise their risk of heart disease, say doctors who used ultrasound tests to take a peek inside.
"As the old saying goes, you're as old as your arteries are," said Dr. Geetha Raghuveer of Children's Hospital in Kansas City, who led one of the studies. "This is a wake-up call."
The studies were reported Tuesday at an American Heart Association conference.
About a third of American children are overweight and one-fifth are obese. Many parents think that "baby fat" will melt away as kids get older. But research increasingly shows that fat kids become fat adults, with higher risks for many health problems.
"Obesity is not benign in children and adolescents," said Dr. Robert Eckel, a former heart association president and cardiologist at the University of Colorado-Denver. It is why the American Academy of Pediatrics recently recommended cholesterol-lowering drugs for some kids, he noted.
Raghuveer wanted to see if early signs of damage could be documented. She and colleagues used painless ultrasound tests to measure the thickness of the wall of a major neck artery in 70 children, ages 10 to 16. Almost all had abnormal cholesterol and many were obese.
No one knows how thick a 10-year-old's artery should be, since they're not regularly checked for signs of heart disease, so researchers used tables for 45-year-olds, who often do get such exams.

Investigators are still piecing together exactly what took place in an eastern Arizona home, where an 8-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his father and another man, systematically reloading a rifle and firing at close range.
Details from the St. Johns crime scene are scant, and with a court-imposed gag order, little new information is likely to come out unless the boy is tried for the two counts of murder on which he has been charged.
Police initially suspected the boy had been physically or sexually abused, but before the gag order was imposed Monday, investigators said they had found no evidence of trauma.
"That's what makes this so troubling," Roy Melnick, chief of police in St. Johns, told the New York Times Tuesday.
Experts familiar with parental murders by young children, but not involved in this case, said abuse is almost always a factor in such crimes.

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Despite the fact that the murder rate in Greenville County has held steady in recent years, the violent crime outlook for much of the state is not nearly that good.
The FBI reported Monday that the state of South Carolina has the highest per capita rate of violent crime in the country.
Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis said, "I don't want people in Greenville County to be afraid when they hear stats like that."

Pennsylvania teacher's aide said Obama would be shot

The mother of a sixteen-year-old student in the Allison Park suburb of Pittsburgh was shocked when her daughter repeated disparaging remarks made about Barack Obama by a teacher's aide at her vocational high school.
"One of the teacher's aides ... said that Obama was going to be shot and killed," Mara Gilligan told KDKA News. "And that our flag is going to be the KFC [Kentucky Fried Chicken] flag and that the new national anthem will be 'Moving On Up' -- and that all my daughter's beliefs were wrong and her children's lives were going to be ruined because Obama was elected."
Gilligan, who is white, said that her biracial daughter took the comments personally. "Being biracial, she was overjoyed that someone of color was elected, and she was so happy and excited to come to school. And for this teacher to yell these things at her and her fellow classmates was just unbelievable."
A teacher at the A.W. Beattie Career Center who overheard the comments filed a complaint with the principal, and Gilligan has since received an email from the administrative director saying the aide would be suspended and disciplined. However, the school would not comment to KDKA on the story.
"You don't have to yell at other people, especially our youth that are excited about the election," Gilligan concluded. "I mean, anybody should want that to happen, especially a teacher, and for you to destroy that joy that they have because of an election is terrible."
Southwestern Pennsylvania was repeatedly cited during the presidential campaign as a stronghold of racist attitudes, and even Rep. John Murtha, who represents a district east of Pittsburgh, aroused controversy when he referred to many of his own constituents as racists.
Two organizations which have been described as explicitly racist appear to be located in Allison Park, where the incident occurred -- the American National Union, which has its mailing address there, and a chapter of the Citizens Councils of America.

Senate to introduce measure to require health insurance for all Americans

WASHINGTON — Without waiting for President-elect Barack Obama, Senator Max Baucus, the chairman of the Finance Committee, will unveil a detailed blueprint on Wednesday to guarantee health insurance for all Americans by facilitating sales of private insurance, expanding Medicaid and Medicare, and requiring most employers to provide or pay for health benefits.
Aides to Mr. Obama said they welcomed the Congressional efforts, had encouraged Congress to take the lead and still considered health care a top priority, despite the urgent need to address huge problems afflicting the economy.
The plan proposed by Mr. Baucus, Democrat of Montana, would eventually require everyone to have health insurance coverage, with federal subsidies for those who could not otherwise afford it.

[Obama's] going to leave it up to a vote I think. What my sources tell me is that there's likely to be a vote next Tuesday. The Senate Democrats will caucus when they come back for the lame duck session. They'll all go into a room, Joe Lieberman will make his case for maintaining his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee, then there will be a secret ballot vote.
Obama's opinion is sort of on record via Harry Reid, and we'll see how it goes.
Interestingly, people like Dick Durbin who is the first Democrat in the Senate -- the first Senator, and from Illinois, to support Barack Obama -- is really loaded for bear about Lieberman, he wants to kick Lieberman off that Chairmanship. Chuck Schumer, the head of the Campaign Committee likewise.
So it could be a very close vote, and it'll be left to the secret ballot of the Senators. You've got Evan Bayh and you've got Chris Dodd who are supporting Lieberman, but there are a lot of other people who are still angry at him for the very comments you were talking about just a little while ago.
One point I think needs to be made. This isn't about Joe Lieberman maintaining membership in a country club as a matter of feel-good "bipartisanship." There's actually a job that needs doing here, and when Chris Dodd and Evan Bayh say that they want Lieberman to retain his chairmanship, they are saying that the extraordinary waste, graft, greed and cronyism that have built the Department of Homeland Security to a bloated, ineffectual taxpayer-funded behemoth under Joe Lieberman is just fine.

I was listening to the TJMS yesterday and one brotha came on and said that if you are black and dont vote for Obama, you may not lose your black card but the next time you try to use it it may not work.
This is so short sighted because we can not afford to be so short sited and vote for Obama just because he is black. We should be voting for him since we believe that he is the better candidate for our countrys future.
Obama has the appeal to go across gender, race and area of the country. Of course there will be people that will want to vote for the GOP ticket simply because there is a woman on the ticket but educated people should see through that type of nonsense.

What separates all of these outrageous preachers from Barack Obama's?
You guessed it. They're white and Reverend Jeremiah Wright is not. If
it's not racism that's causing the disparity in media treatment of
these preachers, then what is it?
I'm willing to listen to other possible explanations. And I am
inclined to believe that the people these preachers go after are more
important than the race of the preacher. It's one thing to go after
gays, liberals and Muslims -- that seems to be perfectly acceptable
in America -- it's another to accuse white folks of not living up to
their ideals.
I think there is another factor at play as well. The media is deathly
afraid of calling out preachers of any stripe for insane propaganda
from the pulpits for fear that they will be labeled as anti-
Christian. But criticism of Rev. Wright falls into their comfort
zone. It's easy to blame him for being anti-American because he
criticizes American foreign and domestic policy.
If Rev. Wright had preached about discriminating against gay
Americans or Muslims, there probably would not have been any outcry
at all. That falls into the category of "respect their hateful
opinions because they cloak themselves in the church."
But one thing is indisputable -- the enormous disparity in how the
media has covered these white preachers as opposed to Rev. Wright.
Have you ever even heard of Rod Parsley? As you can see from what I
listed above, all of these white preachers have said and done the
most outlandish and offensive things you can imagine -- and hardly a
peep.
If the disparity in coverage isn't racist, then what is it?
As I promised on my last post, I have posted pictures on this blog from the Monday night primary rally for Senator Barack Obama, held in Indianapolis Indiana. Yes, I know it's Friday, but my friend finally sent me the images today. I think it's important to post them, first because of the significant disparity in the numbers attending reported by the local media, second for people to get a real sense of who is out there supporting him in the midwest, conservative states.
We arrived reasonably early, thinking that maybe a couple thousand people would be attending. Directed to the other side of this outdoor mall, where non-ticket holders were in line, we thought the line ended at the end of the block. We were stunned to find that people were in line for six to eight blocks. I was fortunate, thanks to a friend who worked for the campaign, to get in with an extra ticket (love those cell phones!) and sit up on the hill next to the International ress. The International press was a surprise for me. I chatted with some of them as we waited for thousands of people to be processed through security. One, from Denmark, jokingly said that they thought we Americans are crazy, but then said that they really found all of this interesting. The videographer from France said that the French were pulling for Senator Obama. There were also members of the press from Germany, Italy, and more.
The event was delayed until 9 p.m., as they did not anticipate the size of the crowd, at least 40 - 80,000 peiople -- not 20000 as stated by the media -- to stand shoulder to shoulder,for hours, in intermittent rain to hear Senator Obama speak. Those around me were surprised and delighted to find that Stevie Wonder was going to be there as well; that was something not publicized until just before the event. It was quite a site: African and Anglo Americans, Asian, Latino, old, young, little ones, all sizes ages, races together. Senator Obama gave an inspirational speech about being human, about who he was, where he came from and that he had made a conscious decision that he shared with his campaign committee that the mud slinging that had gone on with Senator Clinton was not going to continue. That was not who he was and was not the direction he'd set out to go in. He gave an overview of the issues he felt in need of his immediate attention as president -- Iraq, the country's infrastructure, economy, gas prices, lobbyists -- and some of the solutions for those issues he felt he could implement. Some of the solutions to non-critical issues were a bit blue sky, but then who would have thought there was going to be a man of African/Anglo descent successfully competing to become the Democratic candidate for President. It was a sense of history being made. Let me also share a bit of history about this state, which made the sheer experience of the rally all the more incredible: Indiana is the state in which the KKK was born and even now, there are still cities that you feel that you should not be in after dark. So to see and feel the connectedness, the commonality, the sense of unity in the crowd gave me a hope that perhaps things could change. And I am a realist. I know that the election of Senator Obama still faces challenges. I know that his being elected President of the United States will not miraculously erradicate any of the societal or personal issues any of us have. I will still have my own stuff to deal with, as will you. He is, after all, just one man who will not be able to make a difference overnight. But I believe that he just might ultimately bring about the changes this country needs. I have always believed that whatever has been the mentaility of who is in the White House, ultimately trickles down into the attitudes and actions of everyday people. My own theory. From my perspective, for Senator Obama to have received 49% of the vote in the state of Indiana was a win. As people continue to speculate and second guess what will happen next, I hope that whoever becomes the Democratic candidate is fully supported by all of us who believe that it's time for change.

You know I was completly floored when I found out the KKK indorsed Obama. hey would rather kill us first, and I thought hell made thats what they are tring to do, get him in there and assassinate Obama. You know the republicams can be very sneaky, they will groom a black man for years to run the president so that he is nominated so another republican (strong) can win. I think thats what happened, Obama came from out of nowhere unknown to many and giving Hillary hell.
You know alot of people are against black for voting for Hilliary, saying she had her time I beg to differ, Bill had his time she was just there supporting him and they did a wonderful job in the white house in the 90s. we did not struggle back then gas was low, everyone was in there house not losing them, everyone had a smile on their face. Now everyone frowning and mad all the time struggling living hand to mouth, gas outragous, losing their homs living under bridges, It is sad. i am a parent of three, I have a small business and struggling to keep the doors open because people dont have the money to pay. Think about this one second, yes Hillary was in the white house so guess what she knows what to do to get us back to good living, she knows it is hell being poor, Bill has been there, she is ready on day one to get to work, she dont have to wonder what to do she already know. Obama yes I would love to see a black man in office but not if he do not know what to do on day one he would be feeling his way around he has good ideas, but action speaks for it self and if you dont know how the impliment them they are just words. Said that to say this We black folk that are voting for Hillary are voting for experience not because of race. Let Obama serve under her and gain some experience first then the next time he will be ready He is just not ready yet.
