The Young Republicans convention was held in Indianapolis last weekend and their election of a racist, middle-aged woman as President isn't the only controversial item to come out of the GOP gathering.
Local Republican blog Hoosier Access was able to get RNC Chairman Michael Steele to sit down with a group of bloggers and they taped the conversation. The old gaffe-o-matic (or as I like to call him, the Republican Joe Biden!) answers a question from a gay person of color in this clip about the GOP's diversity outreach.
Yes, that's right. To lure African-Americans into the GOP, Steele is offering "fried chicken and potato salad." Since he mentions Republicans should also be reaching out to the LGBT community, I wonder what stereotype he's going to offer us? Buttplugs and Birkenstocks?

These are a small selection of some of the racially-charged comments posted to the conservative 'Free Republic' blog Thursday, aimed at U.S. President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter Malia after she was photographed wearing a t-shirt with a peace sign on the front.
The thread was accompanied by a photo of Michelle Obama speaking to Malia that featured the caption, "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds."
Though this may sound like the sort of thing one might read on an Aryan Nation or white power website, they actually appeared on what is commonly considered one of the prime online locations for U.S. Conservative grassroots political discussion and organizing - and for a short time, the comments seemed to have the okay of site administrators.
Moderators of the blog left the comments - and commenters - in place until a complaint was lodged by a writer doing research on the conservative movement, almost a full day later.
"Could you imagine what world leaders must be thinking seeing this kind of street trash and that we paid for this kind of street ghetto trash to go over there?" wrote one commenter.
"They make me sick .... The whole family... mammy, pappy, the free loadin' mammy-in-law, the misguided chillin', and especially 'lil cuz... This is not the America I want representin' my peeps," wrote another.
Such was the onslaught of derision on the site that the person who originally complained about the slurs, a Kristin N., claims only one comment in the first hundred posted actually criticized the remarks as inappropriate.
A note on the front of the blog reads, "Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government," but one comment on the thread read, "This disgusting display makes me more and more eager for the revolution," while another read, "I never actually wnated [sic] to be a pistol before but..."
After attention from other blogs, the thread was suppressed and placed under review, but before long it was returned to the site intact, and attracted a new series of racial slurs when the original complaint email was posted publicly to the site, with the sender's email address intact.
"The writer has a point," wrote site owner Jim Thompson sarcastically. "We should steer clear of Obama's children. They can't help it if their old man is an American-hating Marxist pig."
"I agree Jim," wrote commenter, by the nickname NoobRep. "The kids didn't pick their commie pinko pansy of a father. Nor did they choose to be put into the spotlight. But Obama/Soetoro is fair game and so is his witch of a wife."
"Poor kids. I hope they're not 'punished with a baby'," wrote another. "Hopefully they won't deal cocaine like the Kenyan."
"DIRTBAGS! All of them. Our [White House] is now a joke to the rest of the world. We have no respect and this is not going to turn out well, mark my words. We will be hit, and much worse than last time. We are now seen as weak and vulnerable. Ghetto and Chicago thugs have taken over."
Only after significant negative attention from a host of left wing political blogs did the maintainers of the Free Republic site place the thread under review for a second time, before finally pulling it.
In the wake of the controversy, some Free Republic posters complained about the vitriol.
One poster by the name of "fullchroma" wrote, "To Jim Thompson: The recent uptick here in racist vitriol, aimed at Barrack, Michelle and their children has made me wonder if I belong. My objection to Obama has nothing to do with skin tone. Is the ugly stereotype of Conservative racism true?"
Another, going by the name of TChris, wrote, "Free Republic is a political discussion forum. It SHOULD be beneath us as a group to stoop to such juvenile tactics as I see increasing here lately. Do we REALLY have to insult Mrs. Obama's appearance like a clique of nasty 14-year-old girls?"
But such opinions were not shared by all. Said Roses of Sharon, "Poor libs .... Too late, the battle has been joined."

What about the face of Michael we didn't like. Rev. Al Sharpton had it right. Michael Jackson wasn't strange.
Prior to the death of Michael Jackson, you rarely heard any Michael Jackson songs on the radio. One of the albums that deserved more air play was Invincible, released in 2001. My favorite tracks from the album are "Butterflies" written by Marsha Ambrose from Floetry, "Break of Dawn", and "You Rock My World" featuring an intro by Chris Tucker. Kudos to 96.3 WHUR in Washington, DC. They were really the only station that gave those tracks any significant airplay. For the most part Black radio and mainstream media in America abandoned Mike.
Overall, Michael became less popular in this country the last ten years of his life, while he continued to maintain popularity around the world. Americans generally thought he was weird. Some may say because he began whitening his skin, the African American community stopped buying his records and supporting him. Or maybe it was the accusations of child molestation that caused his popularity to suffer. One thing for sure, if you don't get radio airplay or video plays it's hard to get record sales.
Maybe corporate radio followed the dictates of the record companies and simply stopped giving his records spins. At the time of the release of "Invincible", if you recall, Michael accused Sony Records and its president Tommy Mattola of racism, think about that for a second, and said he was a devil, because they did not promote the album. He even called on Rev. Al Sharpton to set up a protest and demonstrations at Sony Records in New York. So I ask, what's a recording artist to do to keep themselves popular in the world of entertainment. You do what you deem as necessary. In recent years, we've heard stories of Michael trying to recapture his American audience. We've heard he was seeking advice from everyone from Prince to T.I.
Many in the U.S. look at Michael Jackson as wacky because of the many plastic surgeries he had and of the skin whitening. More specially, African Americans perceived the changes in his features as self-hatred. In this country, skin color is such a politically and socially charged issue we expect the world to take it as serious as Americans do. But that's simply not the case. Michael took a look outside of the United States of America and began to play to a global audience, a world stage if you will. Not to suggest that a "whiter" apearance was Michael's ultimate plan, but let's be real, it didn't hurt.
After the success of the "Thriller" album, the world was ready for more of Michael Jackson. He was determined to become the greatest entertainer the world had ever seen. While Michael's skin condition worsened, he hid it with dark glasses and sparkling military attire which included his infamous glove. The quirkiness of his personality became more apparent and his inability to maintain a private life disappeared. Michael did suffer from the skin condition vitiligo. He also used make-up, bleaching and chemical treatments to even out the absence of skin color on portions of his body. Besides who in the entertainment industry hasn't had plastic surgery that sometimes has gone wrong. By the time the "Bad" album was released, Michael Jackson was definitely different. He was playing to a world audience now. U.S. record sales were only a small piece of the pie. World wide concerts were on the horizon. Michael, a Black man, who was losing his color, had gone global and we didn't understand. He was just "weird Mike."
We've seen the videos from countless countries in Europe and Asia, where thousands of people were in near hysteria over his mere presence. We sit back in this country, in amazement at the adoration of these fans. But we must realize, Europeans and Asians are not Americans. We may share music, but cultures around the world are unique and different. Michael made himself relevant on a global scale. Michael was a genius. What we saw as strange, the rest of the world embraced.
Case in point is the world's fascination with white skin. One aspect about Michael's life that was seen as controversial to Americans especially people like Bill O'Reilly. We in this country would be horrified by seeing skin bleaching commercials. But the rest of the world, even in parts of Africa, sees this as normal. We would never see or hear these commercials on radio or TV in America. Obviously, "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud" still hasn't reached most of the world.
So let's be clear, it was not appearance, it was talent nurtured in the tradition of African American soul music from singers like Jackie Wilson and James Brown and nothing else, that caused Michael's star to soar. Which makes him not only a Black icon, but the quintessential World Superstar.
Michael Jackson was built to entertain. What a sacrifice he made to entertain. A sacrifice that included his childhood. So I don't judge Michael Jackson for the choices he made in his life when compared to the humanitarian contributions he made to this world.
In death, maybe we need to think differently or have another perspective about Michael, as Berry Gordy so eloquently put it at the memorial service on Tuesday; he was more than the King of Pop, he was the greatest entertainer the world has ever known. He was brilliant. For that Michael Jackson paid a price we may never understand.

It's evident Tancredo is only concerned about racism when it furthers his bigoted agenda.
Yesterday, former Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo attacked Judge Sonia Sotomayor for being a member of the National Council of La Raza, absurdly likening the civil rights organization to "a Latino KKK without the hoods or nooses."
Tancredo's outlandish cries of racism are difficult to take seriously considering his own well-documented bigotry. However, the conservative blog Little Green Footballs has flagged a lesser known story demonstrating Tancredo's embrace of intolerance. Apparently, the executive director of Tancredo's anti-immigrant Team America PAC (also executive director of Pat Buchanan's group, The American Cause) pled guilty to "verbally and physically assaulting a black woman" and will be sentenced in July. According to the Factual Proffer from the case:
Had this case gone to trial, the Government's evidence would have shown beyond a reasonable doubt the following facts:
On July 7, 2007 at approximately 7:15 p.m., at Jefferson and M Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C., defendant was walking down the street when he encountered the complainant, Ms. [Redacted], who is African-American. The defendant uttered, "[N*****]," as he delivered a karate chop to [complainant's] head. Ms. [Redacted]'s [redacted] attempted to detain defendant, but defendant was able to escape. Ultimately, the defendant was stopped and arrested by Secret Service officers.
The defendant, Marcus Epstein, is still featured prominently on Team America's website nearly two years after the crime. So, it's evident Tancredo is only "concerned" about racism when it furthers his bigoted agenda. (Though there is absolutely nothing racist about Sotomayor or La Raza.)

here's more of the story
Self - hate in the worse way.
Remembering When We Were Negro
Often when life becomes extremely difficult, I sit back and close my eyes and think of my mother, my father, my maternal grandmother and an aunt whose name was Sharon. Although they are gone from me in physical form, they are manifested in my mind, all four living safely in a small country house that has both a front and back porch. This country house has three main doors. Two of the main doors are in the front of the house and the third door is located in the kitchen which is situated in the very back of the house. When opened, the back door leads to a big grassy yard that stretches from the cinder blocks (that serve as the house’s back steps), to the woodland that is full of small critters. There is a well and a hand pump in the backyard. A few renegade chickens and hens peck at the ground as one lone rooster sits atop of a turned upside down porcelain water basin, mostly used as Ma would say, “For sponge baths”. As I walk back to the front of the house, I see that the front door, (like most doors that are built by people with limited tools and limited money) have minor imperfections that allow cold air to seep in from the bottom during the winter months. A glass window is built near the top center of the door which allows warm rays of sunshine to fill the house’s entrance way. Attached to the front door’s frame is a weather battered screen door. When the front door is opened, the screen door allows flower scented breezes to fill the house year round.
This country house that I speak of is a special place in my mind that I go to when I’m tired of hearing about killer viruses, record unemployment, home foreclosures, wars, torture and rumors of war. It’s my mind’s sanctuary, a space that is full of sounds of mellow music performed by Rhythm and Blues icons like Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers and Aretha Franklin.
Please forgive me this week for being reluctant to write about Nancy Pelosi, Miss California, Notre Dame and the escalating murders of Black youth in Chicago. I’d much rather write about people and events that give me strength. As I drift into my dream world, I close my eyes and I’m able to smell the honey baked ham and collards that my mother and my grandmother are cooking in the kitchen. Daddy, Sharon and I are in the parlor listening to Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness”. As I experience this spiritual connection with love ones long past, it is clear that taking a brief hiatus from writing about the craziness of the world is what’s best for maintaining my sanity. Instead of “business as usual” I will write about Black heroes that have inspired and motivated millions of our grandparents and great grandparents to rise above despair when injustice and hopelessness blanketed their everyday lives. Black heroes like the late great entertainer Josephine Baker, also known as “The Bronze Venus”. If I could go back in time and conduct an interview with Miss Baker, I’d ask her what motivated her to leave (at the age of 15) the impoverished Black ghettos of St. Louis, Missouri, for Harlem, New York and then in 1925 without fear or hesitation, take a steamship cruise to Paris, France to embark on a lifetime dream of becoming a singer and dancer. Little did she know that Paris and most of Europe would (like a tender lover) embrace and cherish her for her gift of song, dance and exotic beauty. What’s truly amazing is Josephine Baker began life as a poor Black child living in the poorest sections of Saint Louis, Missouri, but as destiny intervened, would end up living and performing in France at the height of the “swinging twenties” and for several decades to come, would rapidly earn unbelievable fame, fortune, and respect, during an era in America when Black Folk were regarded as nothing more than third class citizens and were routinely lynched by Whites for the “crime” of being “uppity”. As I reflect on Miss Baker’s lifetime achievements, I hear a voice in my head that loudly chastises, “Don’t tell me that today’s struggles are too hard to bear; don’t tell me that you can’t find a job”. “Where God provides a will, there’s a way”, “Just look at what one poor Black child from St. Louis, Missouri was able to accomplish” in the span of her lifetime.
As I elaborate on the lives of inspiring Black heroes that have long gone to glory, I’d like to continue by writing about the struggles and rivalry between Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois, as they became the articulate voice of a people who at the turn of the 20th century were just two generations past from being emancipated from the bondage of slavery. Their struggles and the struggles of their people were issues of American social change that were hotly debated in cotton fields, in newspapers worldwide, in institutions of learning and in the halls of Congress, as a country grappled with what next to do with free Black men and free Black women.
Booker T. Washington was born into slavery on the Burroughs Plantation in southwest Virginia in 1856, the illegitimate son of a White Man that he knew very little about and an enslaved cook whose name was Jane. As a young man Booker T. worked as a miner in the salt and coal mines of West Virginia before finally arriving at Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia. An important historical note is that Hampton Institute which was founded in 1868 was among the first colleges established for Negroes during the Reconstruction era. Hampton Institute is the starting point of Booker T. Washington’s journey as destiny guided him as being the nation’s chief advocate for Negro independence via education from 1890 until 1915. In contrast, W.E.B. Du Bois was born in 1868, born a free man reared by a sickly mother in the racially tolerant town of Great Barrington, Massachusetts. William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B.) Du Bois’ father, Alfred Du Bois, was born in Haiti and was the illegitimate child of a son of a French Plantation owner. Soon after birth, Alfred Du Bois abandoned his wife Mary to raise their child alone. As a young man, W.E.B. Du Bois showed great promise as a student and as an athlete. Historical record indicates that the young Du Bois attended the same school in Great Barrington that his white contemporaries attended. Du Bois had written in his memoirs that as a young man he hadn’t experienced any substantial racial prejudice against him by the locals in his home town. It was only when out-of-towners visited Great Barrington that the color of his skin became a topic for discussion. As with Booker T. Washington, Du Bois’ blue print of success as an advocate for Black independence and self respect began at a college founded for educating Negro students, notably in Du Bois’ case, Fisk University which is located in Nashville, Tennessee.
As history depicts, Booker T. Washington’s vision of Negroes living in America appealed to White society more so than W.E.B. Du Bois’ vision, which promoted Negroes demanding that their inalienable rights as Americans, as written in the US Constitution be honored. The ideology of Negro empowerment for these two men was as different as is the difference between night and day. Mr. Washington believed that Negroes would best “fit in” American society by living separately from Whites, not challenging Whites for jobs and other opportunities that were exclusively reserved for Whites and not demanding the right to vote. Mr. Du Bois believed that Negroes should have the right to live anywhere that Whites lived, work any place that Whites worked and be educated in the same schools that Whites were educated and most importantly, Du Bois believed that Negroes had earned through their blood, sweat and tears, the right to vote.
Although both men had major ideological differences on how the newly liberated Negro was to survive and prosper in America, we can never forget that (metaphorically) they grew from the same tree whose seeds originated in Mother Africa. Never should we forget that both men via achieving academic greatness strove unselfishly to improve the lives of millions of Americans who were of African descent under conditions that were not favorable or advantageous for them. Washington’s and Du Bois’ achievements as Americans are too numerous to write about in a single blog and to attempt to do so would only cheapen my intent of highlighting their triumphs over bigotry and racial hatred. In a very short snapshot of their great achievements I’d like to point out that Booker T. Washington would later become the first leader of world renowned Tuskegee Institute, located in Tuskegee, Alabama and Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois would later become the first Negro recipient of a Ph.D, the highest standard of academic excellence, which he obtained from Harvard University. Later in life, Dr. Du Bois would be destined to become the premier civil rights activist of his generation.
As I reminisce of the Black and Brown pioneers of years past, I am so fearful that the youth of today have very little knowledge and understanding of the struggles, failures and great achievements of Black Folk that came before them. Even today, as I drive through Philadelphia, Mississippi, I wonder if the young Black man that I see walking down the road with the young White girl is even aware of the mortal danger that this seemingly innocent act of juvenile affection would have presented for him and his family just forty years ago. Have the names Goodman, Chaney and Schwerner evaporated from young Black minds as does the dawn mist evaporates at the rising of the sun in cemeteries near and far?
Dictionary.com defines the word “renaissance” as a renewal of life, vigor, and interest. I am challenging every Black American to begin a new renaissance in Black History by teaching Black youth in their homes, in their churches and in their communities about the struggles and triumphs of past Negro heroes who never accepted the word “defeat” and were able to accomplish what some would say, was the impossible.
Again, I hear a voice in my head that loudly chastises, “Don’t tell me that today’s struggles are too hard to bear; don’t tell me that you can’t find a job”. “Where God provides a will, there’s a way”.
In closing, I’d like to dedicate this article to Mr. Wayman Tisdale an authentic Black hero who in life was a great man, a great athlete and a great musician. Wayman lost his battle with cancer this past week but will never be forgotten. In fact, Daddy, Sharon and I are about to warm up the old RCA and play his cut, “Ain’t no lovin”. Rest in peace my Brother, I hope to meet you one day.
This blog post is initiated from an email that I received from a friend in Kansas who I guess thought that because I was a soldier for over twenty years, I was "down" with the lies that are being told in regard to President Obama's alledged plan to repeal the Constitution's 2nd Amendment.

Subject: RE: FREE PEOPLE OWN GUNS
Gregg, the new president said during his election that he wanted to take away our guns. Also make the cost of shells so expensive we are unable to buy them. Look what the London times has to say about the war in Iraq. Why is that not in our papers? I do not think it is Democrat or a Republican President it is the press. I only forward these I do not make them or do I necessary agree with them.
Ed

This is my response to the above email:
The President NEVER said that he was taking away anyone's guns Ed and you know this ! That is a flat out lie and accusation made every time the Republicans lose an election. Can you post any excerpt from a speech that the President made that makes this claim ? No, you can't because it doesn't exist. I'm really disappointed in you Ed. I've never been a lockstep Democrat or Republican, however, in light of the ignorance that currently festers in the Republican Party I will never vote for a Republican again until the current Republican base (as small as it is) goes away. This Party that you gladly disseminate lies and fear for, via email, is really a Party full of hate and fear mongers. This is McCarthyism in the 21st century ! Stop spreading insanity and fear Ed. This Party that you advocate is the Party of crazy ass Republicans like Michele Bachmann from Minnesota who incites Americans to arm themselves against the government and Spencer Bachus who recently stated that there are currently 17 socialist in congress, however, when pressed to name the Socialists, the man is unable to name one congress member. Sounds like bearing false witness to me. The current Republican base has turned into the Dixiecrats of the 1960s. This country is struggling to stand back up after eight years of total mismanagement. Where were your emails of fear and concern as the last administration sold our country's soul to the Chinese in order to finance a war we can't win militarily ? We sold our country out to the freaking communist Ed ! Where are your emails of disbelief and outrage as Wall Street barons are being exposed as criminals ? This whole approach of inciting fear is pathetic and un-American ! What's really sad is that the leaders at the top of the small Republican base probably aren't even racists; they're mostly ideologues that reek of sour grapes after losing political power. However, they don't mind planting seeds of hate so that their surrogates who are racists can try to connect to other fools that think like them. You know what I mean Ed ? I'm quite sure that you've heard about the comparison between "Curious George" and President Obama on right wing blogging sites ! How many times have you heard the "N" word when describing our nation's President ? The list of racist propaganda goes on and on. The "Press" that you speak of is the conservative media like Fox News and conservative ideologues like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. If you are as fair minded as you claim to be, find me one direct and actual quote from President Obama that said that he plans to repeal the 2nd Amendment. I challenge you. As a Christian you should stop spreading false witness Ed, it tarnishes your image. In fact, the small so-called religious Republican base really needs to look in the mirror and see that the hypocrisy of defending the unborn but not saying a word about dropping bombs on innocent children in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn't add up to being "Christ like". Ed, stop acting like you're only passing on emails without any thought of their repercussions, it insults my intelligence. Greg
This particular blog is in response to the piece entitled "Trash in the White House Please", which was written earlier today by nmcgee8198 who like myself is trying to reach out and evoke progressive and stimulating debate on this website. Putting her article into context with my own views, nmcgee8198 was and is attempting to challenge the readers of this site to become more responsive to the blatant bigotry and ignorance that exists on American radio, television and print whenever the subject involves American President Barack Obama. MSNBC appears to be the only American cable media willing to give President Obama the benefit of fair coverage when it comes to his administration and his policies, thus MSNBC has become my primary source of information as it pertains to national and international news. On a personal note, I pray that individuals who frequent this website give the bloggers who take the time to professionally chronicle life as we see it in America, the much needed comments to our articles, which in turn, motivates us as writers to do what I believe God has Blessed us to do.
My response to the piece that nmcgee8198 wrote today begins as follows:
I totally agree with your view points young lady. Remember the piece that I wrote, "The Art of War"? There is an evil insidious segment of America that relies on maintaining their version of "order" by disseminating fear in the form of lies, racism and misinformation. Of this I am certain. At times I am slightly discouraged by the lack of motivation (as I see it) in Black America to respond to issues that are substantive to our daily lives; past, present and future. Why aren't there more platforms for articulate individuals like yourself to point out and expose these "haters" and their schemes ? As large as a following that Tom Joyner has, writers such as we, receive very little feedback. I recognize that articles written on the foibles of celebrities are entertaining, however, when will people of color be more interested in events that shape our economic lives and the economic lives of our children? It's really a shame that on a large scale, we only have MSNBC to represent without hate, the good deeds of President Obama.
I pretty much ended my comment to nmcgee8198's article with the above paragraph; however, I would also like to add as an editorial comment to my own piece:
Currently, the President and the First Lady are together in Europe attending in some cases, separate functions that promote different but equally important agendas. The President's role will be to primarily discuss with other leaders at the G20 summit, upcoming plans that are necessary to prevent a worldwide depression. If we think that the economic situation is bad now, what do you think would happen, Lord forbid, if there is a complete failure of world banks. I'm here to state on the record that the "end game" of politics and government gone bad, is a worldwide depression. Born from this very possible depression is anarchy. All Americans, but especially people of color (who always receive the short end of the stick) should become more vigorously engaged in prayer and meditation to include positively involving ourselves in issues that shape our lives and the lives of our children. I am not a forecaster of gloom and doom, to the contrary, I am optimistic because of my personal faith, however, to ignore the fact that the rich has become richer at the expense of the poor and the ever shrinking middle class, would be in my opinion a grave mistake. The revolution will be televised. Tell me what you think. This is the Sarge signing and sounding off. Good day and God Bless.
Controversial Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said this weekend that she wants residents of her state "armed and dangerous" over President Barack Obama's plan to reduce global warming "because we need to fight back."
Asked about the White House-backed cap-and-trade proposal to reduce carbon emissions, Bachmann told WWTC 1280 AM, "I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us 'having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,' and the people -- we the people -- are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States."
Bachmann also told her constituents she was "a foreign correspondent on enemy lines," sending Minnesotans warnings through her blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. "I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington."
The comments have been picked up by local blogs Smart Politics and Dump Bachmann.
Bachmann has encouraged resistance against President Obama before, saying that the Republican party needs "to do everything we can to thwart [the Democrats] at every turn to make sure that they aren't able to, for all time, secure a power base that for all time can never be defeated."
Listen at Huffpost. This woman is crazier than pallin, and much more dangerous.
The purpose of this blog is to ask you a simple question but in a direct manner: What are you going to do?
Now that we have ushered in a new President with an new era of change, will you continue to do what you’ve always done and continue to get what you have always gotten or are you going to make the changes necessary to get what you’ve always wanted? What are you going to do?
Les Brown, author of Live Your Dreams, said “We don’t get what we want in life, we get what we are! The manner in which the average person lives their lives is associated with what they see in and believe about themselves.” Julius Caesar said “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in the stars but in ourselves that we are underlings.” We find ourselves where we are in life because of who we are or who we perceive ourselves to be. Therefore, it’s not about where we are that matters. It’s about who we are and what we must do to grow into what we want to become, so that we can get to where we want to be. What are you going to do?
Will you continue to sell your knowledge, gift, talent, and ability for pennies to help your employers build wealth? Will you continue to give the wealth that was laid up for the just to the wicked or will you begin to invest in and create wealth for yourself? What are you going to do?
Will you decide, now, to learn about business and know that you are the business of you incorporated and change your fortune dramatically? You are a corporation with a product to offer. You just have to form a mission, objectives, and goals to deliver what you have to the market, now! What are you going to do?
Will you learn the science of business so that your wealth can not be taken by others? The science of business is not business administration, accounting, or marketing. The science of business is the knowledge of how to create wealth by generating value. Until we understand the real science of business, the mainstream economic apparatus is not going to deal with us in terms of investing capital in our growth potential. It does not matter if we have an MBA to them because they understand that an MBA is designed to teach us how to manage wealth not how to create it. Until MBAs learn how to create wealth for themselves, they will only be employed to manage it for others.
If you do learn to create value but still don’t understand the science of business, the mainstream economic apparatus will come to deal with you. However, their purpose will be to steal that value away from you. They understand the science of business and can see the potential wealth in the value you’ve generated. Therefore, they will take advantage of those who have value but lack knowledge of the science of business. This is the reason some rappers can make a record that goes platinum but end up poor. The rappers knew show, but they did not know show business. People do not fail in life because of what they know, they fail because of what they don’t know. What are you going to do?
You may not be the type of person who is not interested in business. You may be interested in championing a cause or changing a condition but the question is still the same. There is a difference between is and ought. If you believe that something ought to be done, what is you doing to make it happen? We should not be concerned with what the church or anybody else is doing about what we think ought to be done. The question is, what are you going to do?
In 2011, African Americans will earn over 1 trillion dollars with 200 billion of that income being disposable. Hispanics are projected to have over 250 billion in disposable income by 2013. There are people sitting in boardrooms right now making plans on how to move that money into their hands. What are you going to do?
I don’t know about you, but I am going to develop a plan to generate value for minority markets that will give them the knowledge they need to excel. I am going to plan the work and work the plan. But I have already obtained the knowledge that I need to excel and to keep that value from being stolen away from me. What are you going to do?
We have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes into our lives at the time it comes. There is a phrase that is used in the bible over 430 times that says “It came to pass”. This means that everything that comes into our lives comes to leave or pass on. When we do not take advantage of an opportunity when it comes, it passes us and goes on to others. This is why we often see others doing what we “was gonna” do. We see them prospering off the idea that we let pass and say “that is what I was gonna do”. The difference between them and us is we let the opportunity come and pass but they took advantage of it the moment it came. They did not let it come to pass, ergo, they prospered.
GOD has given us an opportunity to access world markets that will soon be taken away if some in congress have their way. That opportunity is the internet. Time Magazine’s 2006 Person of the Year was the internet. Every plan to create wealth should involve use of the internet in some capacity. The internet is a very good venue to market ones knowledge, gifts, talents, and abilities to enrich ones family.
Here are a few examples of how an idea and the internet can lead to massive wealth: A young man had a desire to gather obscure facts about movies. He posted these facts on the internet to share with others who had the same interest. His website, Internet Movie Database or imdb.com, grew in 8 years to become a comprehensive directory of everyone involved in every movie and TV program from key grips to producers, actors, and directors. What began as a personal desire turned into his path to prosperity. Amazon.com bought his website for $55 million in stock shares. Those shares are now reportedly worth over $213 million.
Another young man, who only a had part-time job, was driven to earn extra income by selling some of his possessions. To do this, he created a website to auction his items in an effort to get the best price. Later, he realized that he could earn even more money by allowing others to do the same thing. That website is what we know today as e-bay.
Google allows its engineers to use 20% of their workday to develop projects that these employees have a drive within them to produce. Their creativity generates billions of dollars of revenue for that company.
You can achieve these results as well, if you are willing to market your knowledge, gifts, talent, and abilities and utilize the internet. Those who fail to plan should plan to fail. If you want to be free financially, make a plan to do what you can with what you have and do it now!
I just joined this site and I know the TJMS blog is fairly new, but people are not responding to any comments on here. Tom has not logged in since December and Jay don't ever log in. So why even leave messages for them if they never read them. I think this is sad. This site is great and it gives us a podium to talk to each other and give our opinions. I know people value their time and need to use it wisely, but I have to say people are here are not communicating with each. Most of the comments I've read were from 6 or more months ago. It's time to WAKE UP YOU PEOPLE and get motivated. We are a lost people and it's because we're afraid of each other.

Hello Joyce Moore,
Thank you for contacting us about the book display which included President Obama in our Coral Gables store. Barnes & Noble would like to publicly apologize for an incident in our Coral Gables, Florida store.
We believe that a customer played a cruel joke and placed an inappropriate title in the front window of our store, where we were featuring books written by or about President Obama. We want to assure our customers that the book placed by someone other than any of our booksellers was never intended to be included in our display and was removed as soon as we became aware of the situation.
We are looking into it and taking the steps necessary so that it does not happen again. From time to time customers will move titles from one area of the store to another. In this particular case, we do not condone whatever message may have been intended with the placement of this title in our Presidential display. It certainly was not part of our merchandising and we regret that we didn't see the placement of this title immediately.
Sincerely,

The photograph being circulated on the Internet was taken by a customer in one of our stores, who maliciously placed an inappropriate title in the center of a display honoring President Obama. The store immediately removed the title from the display. Barnes & Noble finds this malicious act to be despicable.”
Mary Ellen Keating
Spokesperson
Barnes & Noble, Inc.
In response to a series of questions I posed she said: " We follow a specific blueprint for the displays in each of our stores. The display was set up in January and the incident took place two weeks ago." "This particular store in Coral Gables has a window display that is accessible to the public," stated Keating. . "Most of our stores are 25000 square feet and have thousands of titles in each store. Unfortunately, every bookseller has to deal with customers moving titles from one area of a store to another, but they do an excellent job of making sure titles are in order." "...we view this as a malicious act and agree that it is an isolated incident."
I know that I am personally tired of these behaviors, although in this case I think that Barnes and Noble is a victim, as well, of a malicious prank. If it was done by the persons taking the picture, apparently they were not aware of the fact that their images are reflected in the window (there are two people in the reflection, at least one is a white male). I want to turn this incident into a teaching moment. When the now infamous New York Post cartoon crawled out from under its journalistic rock, Marc Clarke wrote on why this matters so much to African Americans. His Blog was quoted on CNN, and Marc's article was the source of their explanation of its history.
“The Negro: What Is His Ethnological Status?” was published in 1867 under the pseudonym “Ariel.” ... the author was a Southern clergyman, the Rev. Buckner H. Payne of Nashville, Tenn. Rev. Payne argued that Negroes weren’t descended from Adam and Eve. “... Adam and Eve being white, ... they could never be the father or mother of the kinky-headed, low forehead, flat nose, thick lip and black-skinned negro...” The minister continued: “[I]t follows, beyond all the reasonings of men on earth to controvert, that [the negro] was created before Adam, that, like all beasts and cattle, they have no souls.” Rev. Payne then broke it down scientifically: “[W]e take up the monkey, and trace him ... through his upward and advancing orders – baboon, ourang-outang and gorilla, up to the negro, another noble animal, the noblest of the beast creation. The difference between these higher orders of the monkey and the negro is very slight, and consists mainly in this one thing: the negro can utter sounds that can be imitated; hence he could talk with Adam and Eve, for they could imitate his sounds.” “... Adam and Eve being white, ... they could never be the father or mother of the kinky-headed, low forehead, flat nose, thick lip and black-skinned negro...” Payne continued: “[I]t follows, beyond all the reasonings of men on earth to controvert, that [the negro] was created before Adam, that, like all beasts and cattle, they have no souls.” Rev. Payne then broke it down scientifically: “[W]e take up the monkey, and trace him ... through his upward and advancing orders – baboon, ourang-outang and gorilla, up to the negro, another noble animal, the noblest of the beast creation. The difference between these higher orders of the monkey and the negro is very slight, and consists mainly in this one thing: the negro can utter sounds that can be imitated; hence he could talk with Adam and Eve, for they could imitate his sounds.” You can download the full 48-page text of Buckner Payne’s “The Negro” as a PDF file, courtesy of Google, by following this link . Many like to minimize these covert acts of racism, calling them "jokes", such as the watermelon on the White House lawn e-mail sent by Republican Los Alamitos mayor Dean Grose to colleagues and friends. Grose, who resigned as mayor -- although that means little, unless he resigns from the council, since the council takes turns filling the position -- claims that he "didn't know that it was offensive to African Americans." Personally, I don't buy his explanation, or his apology. If he did not know of the stereotypical myth that Blacks/African Americans
have often been portrayed as a" lazy race of people who just sit around eating fried chicken and watermelon". then exactly what was the "joke"?
The truth is that watermelon is native to Africa, especially near the Kalahari desert.
Watermelon, as the name suggests has a high water content, more so than other fruits, in fact. They are also really high in nutrients and vitamins. Slaves working in the fields were at risk for dehydration since it was intense labor and it's hot in the south. (today's water bottles hadn't been invented yet), so they would eat slices of watermelon to hydrate and refresh themselves from working in the fields.
Chicken, watermelon, okra, chitterlings (pig intestines), black eyed peas.... and many other foods that are labeled soul food today, was once considered food not fit for the master's table. Basically, Black slaves ate whatever the slave master gave them...they ate the scraps (pig-intestines fat-back, pig feet, pigtail, etc) and what was cheap or easy to grow. Poor Whites -- mostly Irish, who were slaves for a time themselves -- ate the same. Even after slavery, Blacks still enjoyed these food because it was what they could afford. Today, that which was the soul of the African American sustenance is now a part of many a fine restaurant's menu.
Acts of overt and covert racism have been dredged up and forward throughout our history. In this century alone, corporations such as AT&T had their corporate hand slapped because they used an image of a monkey to depict the people of Africa in an internal publication. In 2001,Toyota -- because of a modern day "blackface" postcard developed by their ad agency , Saatchi & Saatchi -- pledged millions for diversity development, training and minority supplier inclusion. With the Presidential campaign and subsequent election, consciousness of the issue of race increased. Paradigms began to crack, perceptions started to erode and suddenly the invisible become very visible. As those who have the long held belief in their power and assumption of privilege witnessed how quickly their perceived power evaporated as quickly as the clothes of the emperor they have become fearful and angry. Thus, the only moves left are to continue to instigate fear based upon untruths and resurrect ancient stereotypes and pre-1950s myths to distract, divide and distance those who are beginning to move past race as an issue.
We cannot allow our emotions to evoke hair-trigger reactions to the misbehavior of a few. To demand a boycott of Barnes and Noble without verifying the facts is not how we should engage this heightened level of racism. When we hear the venomous diatribe of hysterical radio talk show hosts and attention-hungry cable news personnel, we don't preach to the choir or call the networks who gave them license to spew their vitriol , we contact their advertisers instead. Because at the end of the day, it is all about the bottom line. I am not certain that Rupert Murdoch would have personally apologized on behalf of the N Y Post, had calls not been made to Kraft Foods, AT&T along with other advertisers. There isn't a single institution in this economic crisis who can afford to have their finances affected by foolishness.
Perhaps we all need to learn how to play chess. I understand that it is a game of patience and strategy, where each move is a response not a reaction. It is also rumored that President Obama plays chess in 3D. Perhaps it is time to take a page from his playbook and stop reacting to every move and instead begin to respond in a manner that will yield the outcome we are looking for. Otherwise, the next few years will be spent fighting battles of distractions rather than making the strategic moves to win the war. And I'm already tired.
All, I'm writing this blog because of all of the various innuendos that surround the Chris Brown and Rihanna fight. I agree that responsibility needs to be owned here but I also feel that if the fight was where she was hitting him in the beginning and it transpired into a violent exchange then they both need to accept responsibility for their actions. I am a 44 year woman who was physically abused by my step-father and went onto being abused in my first relationship which was toward the end of high school. I chose to ignore all of the warning signs by saying things like just because he hit her that doesn’t mean that he will hit me. Well I later found out that this wasn’t true not only did he have a fight with a girl in high school who he later cheated on me with but he was also abusing his mother and sister who hid the abuse. This man witnessed his father abusing his mother and went on and continues to be the same type of man his father is. I told my mother that I would never let a man do the things that I witnessed her go thru and she told me never say never. I managed to survive that ordeal and moved on with my life. This man was determined to make it look like I was the problem and it wasn’t him but later everyone realized that he was when they witnessed the stalking and abuse that I went thru because of how the laws were during that time. I also wanted to point out the fact that violence is violence; whether it is a man hitting a woman or vice versa. I have a son as well as 3 daughters and I tell them that if they every find themselves in a violent situation walk away and never look back. I wonder sometimes why our society chooses to ignore the fact that women and men are both violent because of their backgrounds. I’m saying this because I have a brother who has been in an abusive relationship for over 12years now and he keeps using the excuse he’s staying for his kids. Although he sleeps with one eye open most of the time because his wife picks fights with him on a regular basis and then goes into a violent rage. For instance, she recently hid a tape recorder underneath the seat of his truck because she just knew that he was cheating on her and she was going to catch him. Well when nothing more than meaningless conversations were on the tape recorder she still decides to strike him across the head with a pot because she said that he just didn’t meet up with her during that time frame. This happens very often and always in front of their children. He’s left but keeps believing that she is going to change and goes back to the same thing over and over again. She’s been arrested a countless number of times and never once has she been locked up long enough for her to learn a real lesson. I know that I’m not the only person who has had this issue in their family but I’m truly afraid for him. I just wonder when are we going to stop saying that a man should never hit a woman instead of people should just keep their hands to themselves. Because men are taught they shouldn’t hit a woman under any circumstances or they will be crucified much like Chris Brown they tend to not understand or want to man up to the fact that they are in an abusive relationship. I just want us to start saying that it is never okay for anyone to commit violence against another human being. I think that people who object to this should really read the reason why the law changed to say that both of the parties go to jail. I believe that if Chris and Rihanna were fighting and she has hit him on more than occasion before he snapped and hit her back then they both should attend domestic violence counseling.
Like most, the above headlines piqued my interest. Curious, I read the original article that launched the perceived firestorm, the Women's Wear Daily, and found myself becoming annoyed. Coincidentally, I was working on a re-write of an op-ed for a newspaper and since I wanted to include an example, this seemed to be the perfect storm. The blog attached to the Huffington Post version of the story was filled with sarcasm, anger, outrage, indignant overtures, exasperation, along with the usual suspects who hide behind their computers spewing their venomous racism.
Who was Amnau Eele and what was this Black Artists Association anyway? Why did their point of view rate interest from WWD and the Chicago Sun Times? It didn't add up. I searched the Internet for information about this organization, asked around among visual fine artists I knew, to find out why the opinion of this particular African American organization was deemed important enough to gain attention from WWD. Could not find it, there was no 501C3 certification and they were not incorporated in the state of New York, not even a website. All of the normal trappings one expects of an organization that had the clout to gain the attention of three primary media outlets. This organization had none. Well, who was Amanu Eele? Why was her point of view attention worthy? By the Monday night, the comments online had become meaner, with some reaching self-determined conclusions, judgments of both the person and the organization, and - as happens still - with African Americans in general, since many still believe that one person speaks for all, when it comes to African America. But then there was still something that bothered me about this story. Yes, the First Lady's choice of designers is not even on the scale in comparison to the economic landslide this country was struggling to survive, along with global unrest and environmental concerns. But to me this was not so much about the players as it was about the play. As much as I could tell, this was the opinion of one person, not a celebrity, not a fashion designer, was not really a known artist. So it was really about the play, namely, the media. This is a perfect example of a false story, a term coined for stories manipulated by journalists to create controversy and outrage. Controversy has become the gold standard that today's media is mining. Controversy is rewarded by more visibility for the journalist, never mind the effect on the subject of the controversy.
I acquired contact information for Eele, and left a message. To my surprise she called. It was Tuesday and there were new additions to the story; highlighting the fact that she had been threatened because of the story in WWD. I believe in objectivity when searching for the truth, otherwise it's harder to see when bias obstructs the view. Here is what I found: the Black Artists Association is a group of painters, none of whom are fashion designers. The group has been around since 1996 and is self supported in its mission. It is a community outreach organization that is completely focused on aiding the homeless, the underserved, the displaced and most importantly, the youth." We paint secondary artwork to pay bills or for what we do. We are simple, there is nothing to hide," said Eele. They have their own version of social enterprise, selling books and other paraphernalia throughout the day, and use the money raised to purchase Metro cards, food, whatever is needed by those they serve on the streets of New York City. "We are an underground organization and we like it that way," says Amanu. "I have had my twenty minutes of fame and I am not interested in being in the public eye." stated the former runway model. "We don't have websites, and we have no need to be a corporation. We call people when we need them to buy a coat for a person or help them get a job. I don't want anyone to ever ask what we did with their money, so we don't ask anyone for it. .I use my own money and do what I need to do to help." "I have been accosted on the street as a result of the article, which I hadn't even read," said Amnau. "People just assumed that I was disrespecting First Lady Obama and that cannot be further from the truth." "I have the utmost respect for the First Lady and all that she has accomplished. I just have the point of view that, for the young ones who are struggling to find their way, they needed to see her in support of the African American designers. They are not on the runways during fashion week. Now we deal with the young every day. I just wanted to get some attention given to the African American designers by First Lady Obama, since she is the ultimate role model right now. I don't give phone interviews, yours is one of the very few, because I would rather e-mail answers to questions and not have my words changed.' Eele continues, "It's more important to us that the truth is written and spoken. And we can use that free time to do what we do everyday, feed homeless people, pass out metro cards to them, help young kids attending schools get computers, art supplies, coats, jobs." Amnau had to leave our interview because it was time to distribute the metro cards and the line was already forming. She did want me to read the e-mails she'd sent to WWD and to the Chicago Sun Times. She said no other publication had contacted her, even though they ran stories. "You'll see that I never, ever would have disrespected First Lady Obama by saying anything like "Kumbaya" or "We Are The World" or "This was our moment." or any of those comments in Women's Wear Daily." "When I found out what the article said, I asked the writer at Women's Wear Daily, [Rosemary Feitelberg], why did she do that?" "Black Artists Association does not represent designers, we represent painters only. oil on canvas. In fact, my husband is upset with me because all of this is a distraction from our role in the community; we represent painters, not fashion designers. We help a lot of artists whose work is labeled "outsider art" to find shelter and jobs in NYC. Many of these artists are sent to HAI, an organization that helps outsider artists in NYC. We also help other artists to find work in the art world - TV and Indie film industry as art directors - set designers, prop masters etc....BAA does not speak for anyone except our organization." "First Lady Obama is not obligated to support any designer, no matter the color. "We applaud her choice of including non-African-American designers like Isabel Toledo and Jason Wu for many of her White House functions. Both are very talented designers. We also thank Ms. Toledo and Mr. Wu for booking African-American models for their runway shows before Mrs. Obama entered the White House. But as a former couture model who has watched non-black designers ignore qualified black talent for years, it's sad to see some of those same designers line up to dress the new first lady of America while many young talented black designers face losing their studios and homes. That was my point." "Now I have this interview with Nightline on ABC and heard from CNN and then I will go back to doing what we do, because we are helping people. We are not interested in any more interviews."
Amnau invited me to come see her when I am in New York and walk with her for a day and see what she is trying to impact. Amnau became emotional, feeling overwhelmed by the increased number of homeless and displaced, wanting to provide more emotional and physical support than they are physically able to give, yet the Eeles are not deterred from trying. "I have three teeth I lost when we were in Miami helping homeless un-documented Haitian refugees, artists who hid under bridges in Miami . I was punched in the face, beaten because we were there helping them. I did not get them replaced because, for me, it is my badge of honor for what we did there." "I believe that we, my husband and I, are doing what God intended for us."
Author's note: 'We hold as the arbiters of truth, those who have lied to us the most.' -- Dr.Amos Wilson. This story is not about the story. This is about human behavior, the media and how fiction can easily become fact if the media source is deemed credible and the subject is an unknown. Amnau Elle's life journey is an interesting one, there is certainly more to her than what most will ever hear about. What I personally took from this experience is none of us should rush to judgment and allow perceptions we are offered to replace reality, just because we think the information source can be trusted. Now, more than ever, truth has to become the new gold standard, if we are to ever affect real change.

Inauguration Day 2009. It’s the day we’ve been waiting for, the day our parents doubted they’d see in their lifetime, and a day our ancestors never believed would come.
So, when Barack Obama, an African-American man was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, his lovely wife, Michelle, held the Bible that belonged to Abraham Lincoln, and Sasha and Malia looked up proudly at their dad, the president, everyone who watched had to feel something they’ve never felt before.
This morning, starting with our broadcast on top of the Comcast Building - with a direct view of the Capitol Building and of, at first, hundreds then thousands of people of all races, ages and walks of life making their way to witness history - it began to sink in. And as cold as I was, I had a warm feeling that got warmer as they morning went on. And when I took my seat at the Inauguration, me, whose roots began in Tuskegee, Alabama in the thick of segregation, I was finally able to really breathe and put things in perspective.
We are all exactly where we’re supposed to be at exactly the right time. We did this together. We never have to think less of ourselves for not marching or singing or participating in the movement of the 60s. We don’t have to put ourselves down for not being able to organize and galvanize and produce a great leader. Finally, we did the darn thing. We are the ones we were waiting for. And tonight, we’re going to celebrate the victory together.
Put on a ball gown and tuxedo, or both … you know I don’t judge, and blog along with me as I sing, sing celebrate the greatest Black History fact ever.

8:03 p.m.: Y'all ready?
8:05 p.m.: Turn to ABC. Queen Latifah's on stage at the Neighborhod Inaugural Ball.
8:07 p.m.: Okay, party people ... are you ready to blog the night away?
8:25 p.m.: Sorry, all ... technical difficulties. I'll be back. Meanwhile, talk about how horrible Mariah sounded.
8:28 p.m.: I heard earlier that Barack and Michelle Obama are going to try to break a ballin' record ... uh. maybe I should rephrase that.
8:29 p.m.: Clinton attended 14 balls, they but they're scheduled to attend 10.
8:30 p.m.: Mariah Carey just sang and let me just say this: Maybe she needs to spend less time with Nick Cannon and more time working on that voice.
8:31 p.m.: The President and First Lady have just shown up at their first ball. So what do you think of their outfits?
8:32 p.m.: They look like they're at their wedding. On top of the cake.
8:34 p.m.: They're at the Neighborhood Ball. I love it!
8:35 p.m.: Are you watching these parties with neighbors in your 'hood? Or are you afraid to let your neighbors know you have a nice TV? Hey, just keeping it real ...
8:39 p.m.: Their first dance as the First Couple was nice. Again, wedding-like. But at least we know now that our president has a good slow groove.
8:41 p.m.: Jamie Foxx just co-signed. You heard him: "You know that's a black president ..."
8:42 p.m.: Shakira shouldn't be allowed near a Stevie Wonder song.
8:44 p.m.: Y'all saw Beyonce. Man! No wonder Jay-Z put a ring on it!
8:46 p.m.: President Obama is on the dance floor. Rate him on a scale of one to 10.
8:47 p.m.: He was a little off beat, but I think his dance partner threw him off. You know how that is, those of you who attended integrated schools.
8:49 p.m.: Let's see ... I have his schedule here. He's going to the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Youth Ball, the Home States Ball ...
8:51 p.m.: I wonder if Michelle will get her Diana Ross on and change dresses for each one ...
8:52 p.m.: I wonder if they had that talk with Michelle's mom because you know they needed a baby sitter for tonight.
8:53 p.m.: It's a new day for grandmothers. They don't all baby sit. I'm thinking she wants to party tonight just like they do!
8:55 p.m.: Jay-Z is performing now and wearing some big glasses. Obama said he was gonna make being a geek cool, but come on, now.
9:01 p.m.: You think President Obama was practicing his moves with Michelle?
9:02 p.m.: That's the beauty of having a couple like this in the White House. You really can imagine them being romantic. Nobody wanted to think about Ronald Reagan and Nancy, the old Bushes, George and Barbara, or George W. and Condi. I'm kidding.
9:05 p.m.: And can you imagine if the McCains had made it. They would be attending the senior citizens' ball.
9:06 p.m.: Alicia Keys is singing, might be a studio singer. I'm just saying.
9:08 p.m.: She needs to remake that song where she talks about Bill and camille, Jada and Will and add Michelle and Barack.
9:10 p.m.: The Obama's just finished their second dance at their second ball, just eight more to go! Wonder what the ride in the limo was like.
9:12 p.m.: Did she say, "You should have spent more time with me?" Does he say, "You need to let that guy know you're with me?"
9:13 p.m.: Or do they try to get a nap? They've got to be exhausted.
9:14 p.m.: So, back to what if McCain would have won ... and Sarah Palin and the First Dude were making their rounds to the balls. You KNOW she wouldn't have been able to find a babysitter.
9:22 p.m.: All that working out the Obamas do is paying off tonight - in stamina.
9:27 p.m.: Stevie is performing at the Neighborhood Ball. His braids are hanging on for dear life.
9:28 p.m.: He's going to have to join me and Howie Mandel any day now, and just let it go.
9:31 p.m.: If you're playing the drinking game with me, take a sip everytime the Obamas get to a new ball. And double it every time they dance together.
9:34 p.m.: The Obamas are on their way to the Commander-in-Chief Ball. This is the ball where he has to take control. He's got to walk in there like George Jefferson.
9:35 p.m.: Just saw Joe Biden arrive at the Neighborhood Ball with his wife, the woman who can't keep a secret. Lord help her if she starts drinking tonight. They look good, though.
9:38 p.m.: Anderson Cooper just announced that Malia and Sasha Obama may have had a sleepover tonight. Now, what if someone wasn't invited, and they had to hear about it on CNN? Wow! Come on, Anderson. And isn't it a school night?
9:39 p.m.: I know that was on me. I completely forgot we were freezing our behinds off. My mind wasn't working right.
9:41 p.m.: Hey, do me a favor, everyone: I forgot to mention the Live Blog Party on the air. Call a friend or family member, and tell them about it. And tell them there's no cover charge.
9:43 p.m.: Tell them to let me know in five words or less what this whole day has meant to them. I'll talk it about it on the air tomorrow.
9:46 p.m.: The president just praised the 300 "wounded warriors" from Walter Reed Hospital who came out to party at the Commander-in-Chief Ball, where he and Michelle will dance with members of the military.
9:49 p.m.: President Obama better get to bed. He's got to hit the ground running in the morning. Michelle is sleeping in. He better not turn the light on either.
9:54 p.m.: You guys know I have to get up bright and early too. So I'm gonna dance a little more and then let you bloggers have it. Congratulations to Presient Barack Obama, and congratulations to you all for getting out there and voting - and making history!
9:56 p.m.: Send me a text tomorrow at oh oh oh 646464 if you were at the blog party.
9:58 p.m.: Keep watching all the inaugural parties, and text me tomorrow with your reports.
9:59 p.m.: Best performer, best dressed, best hair, worst performer, worst dressed, worst hair - I want it all!

The Rise of Obama Part 8
The_ Betty
“Biden's visit to Afghanistan follows his trip to neighboring Pakistan,” writes Associated Press reporter Fisnik Abrashi from Kabul. This follows Obama’s claim that only one “president can serve at a time.” For the past 7-days Obama has tried to appear as if he didn’t mind Condoleezza Rice's cold shoulder. In fact, he appeared solely focused on the economy, and confident in President Bush's handling of mid-east affairs. But behind the scenes vice president–elect Joe Biden and a U.S. military envoy took off to Pakistan.
What better way to keep up with the pulse of a region than to have one’s first man quietly visiting next door?
Most Americans didn’t learn of Biden’s trip until Saturday morning, January 10th. This was nearly a week after it was reported from a source in Islamabad that vice president-elect Joe Biden was on his way. After obviously chatting with Biden at length Saturday night Obama finally had enough information to stand up to the press and proclaimed: "What I am doing right now is putting together the team so that on January 20th, starting on day one, we have the best possible people who are going to be immediately engaged in the Middle East peace process as a whole."
This quote was reported by CNN, Reuters, the Associated Press and the BBC on Sunday, January 11, 2009.
Let’s review the predictions and results from last week's January 4 blog: Obama Acts on Divine Orders as Bush Aides Flee DC
1) Predictions for Monday, January 5
The president-elect may take a step toward addressing the invasion of Gaza. Look for a break-through sometime Sunday or early Monday.
Result
Tribune -Vice-President-elect Joseph R Biden Jr will travel to Pakistan this week in a high-profile diplomatic effort to defuse tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, according to press reports from Islamabad.
2) Predictions for Tuesday, January 6
President-elect Obama will be involved with a number of early morning meetings during one of them he will be posed with a unique one time opportunity.
Result:
DETROIT (AP) - President-elect Obama's new ride arrived. The Detroit News reported Tuesday that a new model of a presidential limousine made by General Motors Corporation has been delivered to the Secret Service. The armored 2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine will make its debut at Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration in Washington.
Reuters - WASHINGTON—President-elect Barack Obama gave a strong defense Tuesday to his unannounced choice to lead the CIA, Leon Panetta, in the face of criticism that Panetta lacks experience on intelligence matters.
3) Predictions for Wednesday, January 7
Good news streams in during the afternoon but is soon short circuited by other problems later in the day.
Result:
Seattle Times: “All the gentlemen here understand both the pressures and possibilities of this office,” Obama said following a 30-minute meeting with President Bush and a few of the ex-presidents. “For me to have the opportunity to get advice, good counsel and fellowship with these individuals is extraordinary.”
Seattle Times - The federal budget deficit will nearly triple to an unprecedented $1.2 trillion for the 2009 budget year, according to grim new Congressional Budget Office figures.
4) Predictions for Thursday, January 8
Before the morning is over he may learn of a death of a relative or colleague and/or may hear news of a birth or pregnancy. Good news about the Economic Stimulus Bill may arrive shortly before noon. This news will give Obama the feeling that he’s breaking down once very formidable barriers
Results
Washington Post Charles "Chuck" Morgan Jr., 78, a civil rights lawyer who challenged the racist society of his native South and won numerous landmark cases for equal rights before the U.S. Supreme Court, died Jan. 8 at his home in Destin, Fla. He had Alzheimer's disease.
In a career full of significant cases, Mr. Morgan's most important might have been the "one-man, one-vote" ruling he won in 1964 from the Supreme Court. The case, Reynolds v. Sims, forced the Alabama legislature to create districts that were equal in population, giving black voters a better chance to elect candidates.
Seattle Times-WASHINGTON — Barack Obama is officially the next president of the United States, Congress declared Thursday in fulfilling its centuries-old constitutional duty to certify and tally the electoral college vote from each state.
WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama said that reforming massive government entitlement programs - such as Social Security and Medicare - would be "a central part" of his effort to control federal spending. Obama made the pledge but provided few details as he named Nancy Killefer as his administration's chief performance officer, creating a new White House position aimed at eliminating government waste and improving efficiency. Noting that the Congressional Budget Office had just estimated he would inherit a $1.2 trillion federal deficit for fiscal 2009, Obama promised to cut unnecessary spending.
Obama’s choice of Nancy Killefer as his administration's chief performance officer is yet another confirmation of Obama acting out his Orders via the Eclipse of August 1, 2008. Last December in my blog inaugurating The Rise of Obama series, I wrote: For example, our Commander in Chief appears to be acting more like an Administrator in Chief by recruiting educationally talented people, making changes to plans after examining data, calling out risks, and planning for practical, measurable results… (The Auditor)...
As most Americans know, administrators can be quite rigid, so don’t expect an easy going Obama Administration (remember Leo). Those who align themselves with him will have to tow the line or hit the highway… (Everybody hates The Auditor)...
Figure 2 ( below ) is actually comprised of two charts. It’s called a bi-wheel. The eclipse chart is on the outside and president elect Obama’s birthday chart is inside. Here you can see the energy centers from the eclipse and how they may be working through president-elect Obama. The economic energy centers are in the 2nd and 8th houses.
One aspect of note that Obama’s Solar Return Chart shares with the Eclipse of August 1, 2008 and Oprah’s birth chart, is the North Node conjunct Chiron. In Obama’s Solar Return and Eclipse of August 1st this aspect lands in the 8th House. The 8th House is the house of banking, taxes, law, death, sex and secrets. Celeste Teal in her new book on Lunar Nodes points out some of the traits of those with Nodal contacts to Chiron: They often work in a capacity strongly linked to healing fields…They rarely get sick, as they simply have no time for it. Besides teachers and healers there are many activists and politicians in this group, who have influence over the masses and often play a positive role in bringing attention to larger situations in need of remedy.
A December 20, 2008 AOL internet poll found that 65% of Americans say its “fine by them” that Rick Warren give the inagural invocation. Another 18% were on the fence and only 17% opposed the matter.
Obama wins again.
I listen everyday. I hope to hear from you and your readers/listeners soon.

With a new political era looming, veterans of the old political arena will scramble to redefine themselves in order to make a living. Politicians, media commentators and analysts may be ill equipt to deal with the changing electorate, increased power of the blogosphere and massive discontent with the status quo. Who will survive in the modern epoch? Here are 10 who should really think about calling it quits:
1. William Kristol
There's no need to go on about how wrong Bill Kristol has been on just about everything, and what a spineless shrimp of a man he is. Just read this quote from an article he penned on the eve before the war in Iraq:
Case closed.
2. Sarah Palin
Former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is the poster child of vacuous Republican imagery - hollow, loud and crass with no discernable talents other than an ability to attract stupid middle American house wives. Palin exploded onto the scene as John McCain's campaign started to wither, only for the 'Hockey Mom' to be exposed as a know nothing fraud. Claiming that Russia's visibility to Alaskans gave her foreign policy credentials and using sentences that even 'Dubya' would cringe at sealed her fate, plummeting McCain's campaign into the unelectable abyss. Unfortunately, Palin is doing the rounds on the media circuit, pumping her stardom for all its worth and priming herself for a run in 2012. The last thing America needs is another Bush style Republican, and Palin would represent that, but much, much worse.
3. Michelle Malkin
The Asian, female version of Bill O'Reilly, Malkin makes a living spouting hatred and idiocy to Fox News viewers. Malkin wrote a book called: In Defense of Internment: The Case for 'Racial Profiling' in World War II and the War on Terror. The book essentially defends the internment of Japanese Americans during World War Two and argues for more racial profiling of Arabs, which would be a bit like a Jew making the case for the holocaust in the name of German unity (OK, maybe not, but you get the point). Malkin's offensive views have earned her a spot on Andrew Sullivan's blog, where people can win 'Malkin Awards' for bigotry, prejudice or downright meanness. Malkin's crusade against liberals, gays and minorities means she will have a spot on Fox for the foreseeable future. As Matt Taibbi writes:
I’ll say this about Michelle Malkin: she has a future in this business. I see her replacing Ann Coulter in that right-wing dipshit hierarchy. The last few times I’ve seen Coulter on TV, I haven’t been able to take my eyes off her Adam’s apple. By 2012 she’s going to be doing ping-pong ball acts at drag clubs in Reno. Malkin, though, she’s hardworking, dumb, and shameless, just like Sarah Palin, who I think has a big future four years from now. So get ready for more of this stuff. It’s only just started and they’ve got four long years of target practice coming.
4. Dick Morris
A former Clinton political consultant turned Fox News 'Analyst', Morris made his living selling political imagery to ailing politicians, using his skills in lying, cheating and distortion to their maximum capacity. Morris backed John McCain for President, and was seen salivating over Sarah Palin on a regular basis, unable to disguise his creepy obsession with the 44 year old hot mom of many. Morris does his best to cozy up to his corporate pay masters in the Murdoch empire, and regularly publishes idiotic books like 'Condi vs Hillary- The next great Presidential race' (great call Dick). Thankfully, Dinosaurs like Morris are becoming irrelevant in the new political era, mostly because his lies are so egregious they are damaging to his party. While defending Morris from his jeering audience, John Stewart deftly put it "In fairness, Dick Morris is a lying sack of Shit".
5. Dick Cheney
The 'Dark Prince' of the Republican party, Cheney's obsession with American military prowess and fanatical dedication to the oil industry has made him the focal point of most liberal's rage. Cheney exists to service the needs of the rich and powerful, and is unafraid to put other people's lives at risk to ensure corporate profits and American hegemony. Cheney has always remained largely behind the scenes due to a distinct lack of personality and aura of extreme evil, but wields his influence expertly with his nuanced understanding of the dark arts of politics. Cheney is the epitomy of a political hack, a gutless grey blob of a man with a record of detached violence and personal greed. We won't see much of him after next January, and hopefully someone will have the decency to arrest him should he venture out of the United States.
6. Mitt Romney
Mitt Romney's speech at the Republican Convention this year said it all about the Mormon multi millionaire. Having lost the primary to John McCain (despite spending $47 million dollars of his own money) Romney tried to suck up to the base and pitch himself for 2012 with one of the worst speeches in history. Incredibly, Romney tried to claim liberals were responsible for the awful mess his party made, saying Washinton was 'too liberal', and that "We need change all right. Change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington". Here's the transcript of the awful debacle (try not to laugh too hard). Romney clearly wants to run in 2012, but he had better start believing his own bullshit before he tries to sell it again.
7. Alan Greenspan
Former head of the Federal Reserve, 'St Alan' presided over the wholescale deregulation of the financial industry, and has his grubby paws all over the tragic state of the economy. Greenspan's pathetic appearance at a congressional hearing in 2008 had him basically admit his philosophy was wrong:
Very good of him to admit, but try telling that to the millions of people losing their jobs and homes. Thankfully, Greenspan is retired so won't be able to do any more damage.
8. Bill O'Reilly
Bill O'Reilly isn't a hack, or even a Republican. He is just an asshole. His show continues to dominate the airwaves where he essentially shouts at liberals and ignores his guests. God knows why he is successful, but I suspect it is partially because of people's obsession with train wrecks. Liberals enrage O'Reilly to the point where he could easily suffer a heart attack or physically assault one of them on his show. O'Reilly is no fool, just blinded by emotional retardation and a complex about his middle class upbringing (O'Reilly's entire persona is that of a working man - something not supported by facts). He shows no sign of slowing down, but as a part of the minority in the near future, his voice won't be anywhere near as important.
9. Sean Hannity
Fox News presenter Sean Hannity is the quintessential hack - no brain, just a vacant space in his head for GOP talking points. Hannity is a smooth presenter, articulate and emotive, the perfect frontman for the bankrupt ideology he is paid to promote. Hannity has gone from dreadful to absolutely nauseating since Palin ignited his loins, gushing over the re emergence of brainless conservatism and filling his head with dreams of a conservative comeback in 2012. The visible anguish Hannity now shows after the Democratic victory is a joy to watch, clearly karmic pay back for the years of gloating over the sorry state of Democrats. Hannity was sick to his stomach after Obama was elected, and may develop some serious ulcers over the next four years. However, luckily for him, he may get treatment for free if Obama institutes universal health care.
10.George Bush
I've saved the best for last. The 'Decider' will go down as the worst President in the history of the United States, and as Chris Rock put it "Bush is not just the worst ever president of the USA, he’s the worst ever president, period. Of anything." It's hard to top the hyperbole commentators have used in describing just how bad Bush really was, because there aren't really words to do it justice. Bush has presided over monumental fuck up after monumental fuck up, groping his way through the president with the finesse of a 800lb gorilla. I tried to come up with a list of accomplishments he has achieved, and came up with the following:
1. He has increased financial support to Africa to alleviate AIDs and poverty.
2. ............
Uh, that's it.
He has presided over two disastrous wars, an increase in poverty at home, an increase in wealth inequality, an increase in the number of people without health care, a crisis in public education, the break down of national infrastructure, the literal drowning of a city, the use of torture as official policy, the biggest financial crisis in 80 years, and the irreversable decline of America's prestige abroad. Here is something to think about. Every ex President (aside from Ronald Reagan who had alzheimers) has a role to play in public life after office. They give advice, do lecture tours, write books, sit on boards of huge companies and head non-profit organizations. How many people do you think will be itching to receive advice from W? How many companies would have him on their board? Who would buy his autobiography? Who would pay to hear him speak? No one. And that pretty much sums it up.
Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

For some people the primary has never ended.
MATTHEWS: [unintelligible] You guys are so suspicious. Look, I think that since she lost the fight for the nomination, Michelle and Jennifer, she has been not just a good soldier, she has sang the tune of this guy. She's been illustrious, she's been admirable. She -- her spirit seems to be with him. Bill's a little more troubled, obviously, by what happened. But she's been totally with him, and that's why he's obviously thrown her name out. Why would he even be thinking of her if he thought she might be insubordinate?
{snip}
BERNARD: No, they're not going to keep her in line if she's secretary of state. If she's secretary of state --
DONAHUE: Well, that's why she's not gonna get it.
BERNARD: -- she will run a parallel government. It will be a huge problem.
DONAHUE: I don't believe she'll get it

President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are members of a minority: They are a black married couple.
Wed 16 years in October, the Obamas conceived their two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, after the wedding. While traditional couplehood such as the Obamas' is losing popularity in every corner of the country, it has all but disappeared in black America, where more than 70 percent of children are born outside marriage.
In 2006, The Washington Post published an op-ed essay by writer Joy Jones with the provocative headline, "Marriage is for White People." The headline didn't reflect Jones' views; it repeated "what one of my students told me some years back when I taught a career exploration class for sixth-graders at an elementary school in southeast Washington (D.C.).
"I think I'll invite some couples in to talk about being married and rearing children," she told the class." 'Oh, no,' objected one student. 'We're not interested in the part about marriage. Only about how to be good fathers.' And that's when the other boy chimed in ... 'Marriage is for white people.'"

Which Atlanta institution produces the most African-American graduates who go on to earn doctoral degrees in science and engineering?
a) Morehouse College
b) Georgia Tech
c) Emory University
The answer is d) None of the above. That distinction goes to Spelman College — a small, historically black, private liberal arts college for women.
Spelman, with a student body of about 2,200, sent 150 black students on to Ph.D. degrees in those traditionally male disciplines from 1997 to 2006, according to a survey released in August by the National Science Foundation. That’s more than any other undergraduate program in the country except the much larger, coed Howard University, with 224. Howard, also historically black, has about 7,000 undergraduates.

Amil Khan
You can almost hear the groans in the caves on the Afghan-Pakistan border. "What's going on?! Why can't they just keep rendering and torturing people?!"
A couple of years ago, the battle between American and al-Qaida propagandists for the Muslim world's hearts and minds was an easy one for Osama Bin Laden's men. The group didn't have to do much apart from point out all those instances of death, destruction and torture that showed how what America said bared little resemblance to what it did.
Barack Obama's victory challenges the perceptions that form the foundation of al-Qaida's worldview, and it has left its supporters a little confused. The group's propaganda plays up the idea that the US is run by a coalition of rich, white, self-serving businessmen and politicians who use the word "freedom" to persuade the poor to fight for them.
In a message posted on the Counterterrorism Blog in January, al-Qaida's Adam Gadahn repeated some of the organisation's favourite themes: "Muslims, of course, are much better acquainted [than the American public] with what is right and who the victim is and realise that right isn't whatever is said, done and commanded by Western presidents, prime ministers, and televangelists.
"Muslims know what true values are… like liberating oneself and others from oppression, like honour, dignity and self-respect, like chastity and moral uprightness, like truth in word and deed, like showing mercy to the innocent, defenceless, and helpless, and fighting for them, and like giving one's life for these values."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that a "crisis of confidence" exists between Russia and the United States but that he has "great aspirations" for the incoming Obama administration.
Medvedev, in Washington for the G-20 economic summit, said he hoped to meet with President-elect Barack Obama soon.
"We have that understanding," he said.
Medvedev has expressed concern that a U.S. missile-defense program that would put radar and missiles in the Czech Republic and Poland would threaten Russia.
Medvedev announced this month that Russia would place short-range ballistic missiles near its border with Poland, in Kaliningrad, to defend Russia from the U.S. missiles. The State Department had responded by calling the announcement "disappointing."
However, Medvedev backpedaled from the statement last week and continued to do so Saturday, saying Russia "really does not want to deploy anything." He added that Russia "will not do anything until the U.S. takes the first step."
Medvedev said Russia and the U.S. have to agree on a global system to protect against rogue states and that he is ready to discuss it with the new president.

Incidents around the country referring to President-elect Barack Obama are dampening the postelection glow of racial progress and harmony, highlighting the stubborn racism that remains in America.
From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.
There have been "hundreds" of incidents since the election, many more than usual, said Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate crimes.

No other issue, save for perhaps the abortion issue, is as fraught with propaganda (from both sides) as the gun issue. As a gun-loving Democrat, and perhaps the only informed moderate in the country on the subject, I’ve always been profoundly irritated with the sheer amount of lies, spin, propaganda and grossly misleading information on the topic. While “preaching to the choir”, so to speak, is commonplace among passionate political players, for no other issue is it as common to lie to the choir as it is with the gun issue.

AP – UN special envoy, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo arrives in Goma, eastern Congo, Saturday … JOMBA, Congo – Congo's main rebel leader promised a U.N. envoy Sunday to support a cease-fire and U.N. efforts to end the fighting, and the diplomat said he hoped the warring sides would hold peace talks in Kenya.
As more heavy fighting was reported in eastern Congo, the envoy, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, met with rebel leader Laurent Nkunda for the first time, after talking in recent days with President Joseph Kabila and the leader of neighboring Angola.
Obasanjo flew by helicopter to the rebel-held town of Jomba, near the Ugandan border, and was greeted with a hug by the gray-suited Nkunda. After a two-hour meeting in a church compound, Obasanjo said the rebel leader agreed to maintain a fragile cease-fire in the Central African nation.
"(But) cease-fire maintenance is like dancing tango. One does not dance tango alone," Obasanjo noted.
