Don’t know what people will think about this but I am definitely becoming a bit if a fan of BJ from The World or Horses radio show. I don’t know of anything like this in the UK - do you?
Use the link below to read about him and listen to his weekly programme. It goes out live every Sunday evening (California time) but is repeated continuously through the week. Let me know what you think. For those of us who enjoy the ‘out of the ordinary’ perhaps we could start a BJ fan club?

Midnight The Foal Dies After B
- From: voicesforhorses

Description:
Midnight The Foal Dies After Being Dumped In A Surrey Road And Hit By A Car
The RSPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated foal was dumped in a Surrey Lane and subsequently hit by a car.The young black colt (male) foal (young horse/pony) was abandoned in an emaciated state in Roughets Lane, Bletchingley, Redhill. He was discovered by a member of the public just before midnight on Thursday (21 August), but it is not known how long he had been there or when he was dumped.
The RSPCA was called and the young horse, thought to be a Thoroughbred type, was collected by an RSPCA animal collection officer at about 1am and rushed to a specialist veterinary rehabilitation yard for treatment.
But despite round-the-clock monitoring and treatment including pain relief, antibiotics and a drip, the young creature, named Midnight by RSPCA staff, died on the morning of Friday 22 August.
It is thought Midnight died as a result of shock as his injuries appeared largely superficial. He was also suffering from hypothermia
RSPCA inspector Nicky Thorne, who is investigating the incident, said: "Whoever is responsible for abandoning this foal is a heartless coward and has no justification for doing so."If he was orphaned or they could no longer look after him for whatever reason, then practical help and advice could have been sought from a number of organisations, including the RSPCA.
"The ‘P' in RSPCA is for prevention and not prosecution so if people are struggling they should contact us for help and we will always try and work with them to resolve the situation.
This incident is particularly worrying as it is the third foal which has been abandoned since March this year in inspector Thorne's patch of Surrey.. The first foal, dumped in Chessington in March, survived. But a second foal abandoned near Eastbourne Road, Blindley Heath at the end of June was in a poor condition and subsequently died.
Inspector Thorne said:" I am extremely worried to see another young horse die after being dumped at the side of the road. Although we have no reason to suggest these incidents are linked in any way, it is a worrying trend. I would urge anyone who recognises this foal, or has information about who it belongs to, to contact the RSPCA so we can ensure no other equines suffer."
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the RSPCA's cruelty and information line on 0300 1234 999. Calls are treated in strictest confidence.

Description:
Britain's leading equestrian organisations have launched a survey to find out more about the welfare standards in livery yards.
Livery yards are very popular in the UK for those people who are unable to keep their horses and ponies at home. However, there is no record of how many horses are currently at livery or indeed the number of operating yards and the welfare standards under which they operate. To read the article and fill in the survey please go to:

Charlie is a gorgeous pure white pony desperate for a special home as his owner has been taken very ill. He is an older lad possibly around 20 but well and fit and has been driving a trap up until a couple of months ago. He is a stallion so would need a home with geldings only . He is safe for children and loves attention but as he is getting on a bit should not be considered as a riding pony more a wonderful pet that a light, quite child could enjoy sitting on for a plod around. Because of his age Charlie needs to go to an experienced home where he can live out his days loved, safe and cared for. Charlie currently lives in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The British Horse Society advi
- From: voicesforhorses
-
Description:
The British Horse Society is advising horse owners to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their horses and equipment.
The BHS has received many reports over the last few days of stolen horses and people acting suspiciously around them. Internet forums are buzzing with speculation and text messages reporting incidents have been circulating widely.
These incidents usually involve photographs being taken of horses in fields with unknown individuals showing a high level of interest in particular animals. While such activities in isolation may not appear suspicious, the descriptions of the vehicles and of the people involved are remarkably consistent.
In many cases, the reliability of the reports is hard to confirm and there is no doubt that many false rumours are circulating. There are no police records for a number of the alleged horse thefts and it appears that at least some of the text messages involved are not genuine. However, there is sufficient, consistent and confirmed information to cause concern to all horse owners.
The BHS is advising people not to panic but to remain vigilant and take extra steps to ensure their horses remain safe. There are many simple precautions that can be taken.
Horse owners are advised to ensure their fields and property are secured to make the removal of horses as difficult as possible. Such precautions must be sensible and not put horses at risk in the event of fire. Tack and other equipment should be locked safely away and, where possible, kept at a separate location to the horses.
Horse owners are advised that it is a good idea to vary the times of their visits to their horse and to have an unpredictable routine. Where possible, owners should work together to keep an eye on one another's horses and it may be useful to ask friendly local residents to join in.
Freeze-marking and microchipping are both excellent deterrents to horse theft although, as microchips are not externally visible, signs should be displayed to advertise that horses are microchipped. Tack and other equipment can also be chipped or marked to prove ownership.
BHS Welfare Senior Executive Lee Hackett said: "We absolutely do not want people to panic or over-react to what are, in many cases, unsubstantiated rumours. However, there are certainly some grounds for concern and horse owners should take this opportunity to review their security measures. If this furore causes horse owners to take more precautions then it will at least have one very positive outcome".
The BHS advises anyone who observes suspicious activity around horses to note down as much detail as possible and report it to the police. Time, date, vehicle registration details and descriptions of any persons involved are particularly helpful.
BHS Welfare will be happy to offer further security advice to anyone who requests it.
