So... here it goes. I have ridden Western on and off for numerous years, a couple months ago it seemed I woke up determined to learn English hunter jumper. Well, needless to say, things didn't quite work out with my trainer at the time and it felt to me I wasn't learning enough to feel comfortable with the amount of money and time spent(not to mention the lesson horse had horrible hock problems and I felt so uncomfortable trying to jump her at all!!!)! So here I am again and just like the first time, it seemed I woke up this morning and had it set in stone that even though it was some odd weeks later I was not only going to find a new trainer but also going to look for a horse of my own!!! wonderful. Sooo I got on equinehits and started poking around and stopped on this drop dead gorgeous friesian, now it would take me days to write out in full detail what happened but to sum it up for you, my heart stopped and I, for some crazy reason KNEW I was in love... haha.
So here I am now, I seem to have my parents on board and have already visited both in person and via internet stables and talked to my good friends at the local tack shop about trainers and am already in this thing way over my head and it hits me....
this horse is 3 years old!!!! The owners haven't ridden her under saddle (of any kind) and even though I am so in love, have no IDEA where to start and how to go about getting the horse to where she needs to be!!! Because she is a friesian and stands largely at 16.2 hands I can't jump her seriously, and that is a bridge way far away from crossing!
So i guess what I'm saying here and asking, is what I do now... or you can just call me crazy, and if you are still reading this by now, I give you props! Thanks for listening to me blab!
I have a plan to ride a few times a week this summer. I am hoping that I can get out and ride a good hour at least 2-3 times a week. I am hoping I can get together with my neighbor so we can go out together. By going out with someone else I am hoping it will motivate me more to get out.
My kids are almost out of school so I am really excited about having a those daily hours I don't have to worry about school work ( I homeschool my kids ). Anyway, I hoping this plan will stick for the summer.
Anyone else have any goals for the summer?
My hope is that this spring and summer I will be able to get a regular riding routine down. Every time the weather starts to get warmer I start to think about all the things I will do. So I am hoping that it won't just be thoughts in my head but a reality.
I want to ride at least 3 times a week and try and work with my horses every week day. I hope I can do it.
If one can get through the lists of names, NEWMARKET & ARABIA; An Examination of the Descent of Racers and Coursers, by Roger Upton is an interesting history of the origin of the Thoroughbred. Out of a total mix of breeds, the British have developed the fastest horse in the world over short distances.
Upton stretches his history a bit too far and part II can be discarded with his suppositions, but the Thoroughbred really is the antithesis af it's name.
Of course I can't make a blog post without mentioning Akhal-Tekes. Although I feel that they have contributed to the Thoroughbred, it's contribution is no greater than other breeds that were in England during that period, including the Arabian.
I have previously put up a blog post , and I will be updating that one as well.
