  • March Snow Totals

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

Here is my latest video update.  Please feel free to give us your snow totals, as they come in.  Some of you had a minor snow accumulation from Sunday morning.  Here's your chance to give us that amount, too.

Enjoy, but stay safe.  This storm should begin in the Philly Metro around dinnertime  4 to 7 PM.

Heaviest snow rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour may fall between 9 PM and 2 AM Monday.  Winds gusting to 35 to 45 mph will create POOR VISIBILITY and BLOWING and DRIFTING on Monday morning.  Temperatures will be near 31 degrees at midnight, dropping into the 20s all day.  Wind chills should range from 5 to 15 degrees on Monday as well.

  • Strong T-Storms Sunday, Humid,

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

An upper-level low will be lifting from Arkansas to Lake Erie on Sunday.  Right now, this storm system has been providing snow for Madison, Wisconsin to Kansas City Missouri and heavy rain & thunder in the deep South.

Windy, warm, humid air will be moving into the Philadelphia area by Sunday.  Dew points could easily hit 60 to 64 degrees - very sticky !  Some of the thunderstorms will be strong to severe with damaging wind, and in some cases, hail.  The worst will come in the afternoon hours.

Strong wind gusts will continue on Monday, possibly reaching 45 mph, as this storm system pulls away.

TONIGHT:  Cloudy, More rain developing.  A rumble of thunder toward morning.

Lows:  41 to 46 degrees from suburb to city

      Winds:  E 5 - 15 mph

SUNDAY:  Damp, Humid, Hazy, Strong to Severe T-storms. Windy, Damaging wind possible.

      Highs:

59 to 64 degrees Reading to Allentown.
64 to 69 degrees Lancaster to Trenton and along the Jersey Shore.

  • 7 to 12"+ Snow By Monday After

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

Tonight, a mix of rain, sleet and snow will be coming up from the South. A trace to 0.5 inches of accumulation, I think, is possible.  In the big picture, this is no big deal.

If you wait long enough, it will come.  I know that is not the quote from the Field of Dreams movie, but it is close enough.  Snow lovers have been patient.  That is for sure.

Look for a significant snow storm to affect the Delaware Valley late Sunday into Monday morning.  Flurries and snow showers could even linger into Monday afternoon.

7 to 12 + inches of snow is what I am expecting for Philly Metro, Trenton, Wilmington and Points North and West (Allentown & Reading may only receive 7 inches).  If Philly got 15 inches, it would not surprise me.

Further to the south and east, (Dover to Millville to Wrightstown to Atlantic City), I think will pick up 12 to 17 + inches of snow.  If some areas in South Jersey picked up 20 inches, it would not surprise me.

The key here is to prepare now.  If you need a shovel, go buy one.  If you need supplies, go get them.  This storm has the potential of beating out the February 2006 storm, when Philly received a foot of snow.

Good news.  This snow will be out of here by late Monday and the clean-up can begin.

TONIGHT:  Clouds thicken, rain, sleet, snow mix develops from the South.
      Trace to 0.5 inches.

Lows:  25 to 30 degrees from suburb to city.

Winds:  NE 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 25 mph.

SUNDAY:  Mix ends early.  Otherwise, gray skies.  Snow returns at night.

High:  37 to 41 degrees from suburb to city.

Winds:  NNE 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 20 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT:  Snow storm begins around 7 PM from the South.

MONDAY:    7 to 12 inches + for Philly and N.W. suburbs12 to 17"+ Dover & South Jersey (Wrightstown, Millville, Atlantic City)

Heavy snow, windy, gusts around 30 mph

Midnight high around 31 degrees and falling.

Temperatures in the 20s by day, dropping to the lower to mid teens by Tuesday morning.

      TUESDAY:  Cold sun.

      High around 28 degrees

  • Sun & Clouds Today, Precip. So

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

A line of low pressure is moving through West Virginia this morning, causing some snow and rain showers to our far south.  Kent & Sussex Counties in Delaware, Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic Counties in New Jersey are all prime candidates for some spotty precipitation early this morning.  Otherwise, look for an abundance of high clouds early in and around the Philly metro and then a mix of sun & clouds for the remainder of the day.

Winds today will be veering from the northeast to the south, nudging us into the low to mid 40s.

Sunrise this morning in Philly:  7:15 AM

A southern storm across the Tennessee River Valley will continue to gather energy and head in our direction by this upcoming weekend.  There is some concern that the precipitation Saturday evening will fall as a rain and a icy (sleet, snow) mix.  Stay tuned to this blog for more updates.

      Meanwhile...

FOOTNOTE:  See my blog dated last Tuesday, March 10th.  It's called "When Winter Makes A Comeback"

I still see some accumulating snow next week and again, possibly March 21st to the 23rd (next weekend).

FRIDAY:  Sun & Clouds, chilly.  Spotty Rain / Snow South.

Highs:  42 to 46 degrees from suburb to city.

      Winds:  NE to S 5 - 15 mph

      TONIGHT:  High clouds increase, Cold.

Lows:  28 to 33 degrees from suburb to city.

      Winds:  SE / VRB 3 - 8 mph

SATURDAY:  Plenty of High clouds, Rain, Icy Mix Late

      Highs:  around 49 degrees

SUNDAY:  Leftover Shower, Mainly gray skies.

      Highs:  near 58 degrees.

  • Will Glenn Beck address this?

    • From: DeweyDevil
    • Description:

      Ok....

Glenn is the king of throwing a " acuusatory statement"  out there not backing it up with any sort of facts.

He then says well I have not heard anything to refute the statement so until I do it must be true?

Well it seems the interwebs are fighting back....

      http://glennbeckrapedandmurderedayounggirlin1990.com/

Keep in mind the website and websites are being created over and over and glenn is scrambing just as fast to get them taken down.

Why is he scrambling to take them down?

Did he rape and murder and young girl?

We have not heard anything to the contrary......

And if its good enough for glenn beck its good enough for me.

These are just questions just like glenn asks every night on his show....

       also there is this document....

it reminds me of the obama birth certificate from kenya....

  • Some Wet Snow Tonight, Sunny o

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

A weak storm system is passing to our south.  The center of low pressure is actually in North Carolina.  But coupled with some upper air dynamics between 5,000 and 12,000 feet, we have got the kick start needed to produce some wet snow showers this evening.  And yes, some rain may mix in, too.  The potential (key word here) is for a trace to 0.5 inches of snow.  Accumulation will tend to be on the lower end of this range for most (meaning flurries for most), but where these snow showers persist, up to 0.5 inches may fall between now and midnight tonight.  No big deal.  After midnight tonight, skies should begin to clear and it will turn colder.

      Sunday looks sunny to me.

And Tuesday looks sunny to me.

Presidents Day, however, will include quite a bit of high thin cirrus clouds, filtering the sun out from time to time.  The reason for these high clouds is due to a coastal storm off the shores of North Carolina.

TONIGHT:  Evening wet snow showers, some rain mixed in, too.
Trace to 0.5"  Cold, clearing late.

Lows:  23 to 28 degrees from suburb to city.

      Winds:  W to NW 5 - 15 mph

      SUNDAY:  Chilly sun.

High:  39 to 43 degrees from suburb to city

Winds:  NW 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 20 mph.

MONDAY:  High clouds, filtered sunshine, a bit colder.

High for Presidents Day:  near 39 degrees.

      TUESDAY:  Chilly sun.

      High:  near 41 degrees.

Most of the energy from "The Soaker with No Name" will be sapped into the Gulf of Mexico.

This storm will SLOWLY drift NORTH & EAST of New Orleans, Louisiana by Sunday, as I see it now.

Thus, at this point, we, in the Philadelphia area and the Jersey Shore, look dry even into Saturday through Memorial Day.  Good news for many, I know !  If any thunderstorms develop north or west of Philly, the chance looks isolated:

      10 percent or less.

  • It's A Wonder People Over 30 A

    • From: Gunpowdernlead
    • Description:

Why people over 30 should be dead

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, ... and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.) As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors! We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. NO CELL PHONES!!!!! Unthinkable! We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them. We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt. We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents? We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade. Horrors! Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them! Congratulations! Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good !!!!! A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"  Kinda makes you want to run through the house with scissors!

  • Rainy, Cool & Cloudy Tuesday

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

Philly and points north, I think, will get some rain after midnight.  The Phillies game against the Florida Marlins tonight should be fine.

Rain and thunderstorms have been locally heavy around Dover and points south today.  In fact, between 1 and 3 PM today, we got a downpour around Ocean City, NJ that spread briefly into Atlantic City.  That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Either way, once we move into Tuesday, look for a midnight high of around 66 degrees.  Much of Tuesday will be rainy, cloudy with temperatures falling into in the 50s, as a cold front moves to our south.

  • April Fools Pranks

    • From: Gunpowdernlead
    • Description:

I have to admit, this April Fools day is a little sad for me.  One of my secretaries, that we used to pull pranks on all of the time, is out on Family Medical Leave.   Every year, without fail, I would pull the same prank on her.   Leave her a message that said :  Sallye,  please call G. Raff at 214-670-XXXX and arrange a meeting for me.   The number I would give her would be the number to the Dallas Zoo.  I changed up the names and circumstances each year, once she asked for Ella Phunt and made a dinner reservation for Ima Hogg.   The Zoo got to where they recognized her raspy cigarette addicted voice and would say "Ma'am they are pulling a trick on you... Again!".   Yep I miss ole Sallye, I will have to find another target, like our new receptionist.

What kind of pranks have you pulled on April Fools? And yes, I know it is childish to do, but it is also fun.

  • Strong T-Storms Monday, Hazy S

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

Our next storm system on Monday looks potent enough to produce some flooding.  In fact, as of this writing, there is a FLOOD WATCH for Monday, as issued by the National Weather Service, for the I-95 Corridor and all the counties north and south of the interstate.

Temperatures will spike up into the LOWER 70s by Monday afternoon with some hazy sun.

What am I expecting ?  Torrential rain, street flooding and possibly some hail from these thunderstorms.  The rainfall rate within a particular storm could exceed 0.5 to 1.25 inches within a hour or so.  The window of opportunity for this downpour has sped up to 9 AM to 1 PM Monday.  Be on guard, as they say, for stormy weather at that time.

An arctic blast of cold air will sneak in here on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper 40s to near 50.

  • P.M. Rain, Windy, Warm Today

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

The warmest day of the week is today.  Winds will be increasing as the day wears on.  Gusts 40 to 50 mph (quite windy) will arrive around midday and early afternoon.  High temperatures will be ranging from 59 to 63 degrees.  Rain moves into the Philly Metro, I think, between 2 PM and 4 PM and continues tonight in showery form (otherwise, it's just damp).

An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but remember, it is NOT likely.

Once this cold front clears the coast tomorrow, the secondary low will form around northern Georgia by Saturday afternoon and drift northward.

This storm will bring us a generous amount of mixed precipitation.  In other words, significant icing will be possible, especially late at night on Saturday and into Sunday.

Stay tuned on-air and online with me via this blog.

  • Heat Wave # 1 Monday

    • From: David_Aldrich
    • Description:

Philadelphia hit 93 degrees on Sunday, breaking the old record of 92, set back in 1990.

Atlantic City Airport, 92, Trenton, 91, and Georgetown, DE, 94, all broke record highs as well.

Our strong ridge of high pressure is still anchored off the coast of North Carolina.  If we hit 90 degrees on Monday (and I believe we will), this heat wave will be the first of its kind in April since 2002.

Dew points should be higher on Monday, rising into the lower 60s, especially South of Philly.  This means it will be MORE HUMID on Monday than it was on Sunday.

The ridge will be breaking down slowly on Tuesday with temperatures near 85 degrees.

Very little rain is expected on Wednesday as temperatures drop and settle into the 60s.

      TONIGHT:  Mostly clear, warm again.

Lows:  56 to 63 degrees from suburb to city.

      Winds:  WSW 5 - 15 mph.

MONDAY:  Hazy, Hot, More Humid, HEAT WAVE # 1.

Highs:  86 to 90 degrees from suburb to city.

(The record high is 93 degrees, set back in 1915)

      Winds:  VRB/S to SW 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 20 mph.

TUESDAY:  Hazy Sun, Windy, Gusts to 35 mph.

      Highs:  around 85 degrees.

WEDNESDAY:  Mostly cloudy, Few Showers (don't expect much)

Early High:  near 69 degrees and falling, as we settle into the 60s.
