Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's nationwide signature event. I had the honor of being a Co-Captain for TEAM PITA in 2007. Throughout the event, my teammates and I took turns walking around the track and camping out. Our team fundraising goal was $1500, however we raised over $3000!!!! This took a lot of hard work and dedication from the team members! Our team was created on behalf of Pita Carrasco, my cousin, who has been a breast cancer survivor for 3 years.
The event took place on August 11th-12th atKimball Parkin National City. Many people walked in honor or in memory of someone they know who has been touched by cancer. ALuminaria Ceremony was held at sun down, where candles were lit, placed around the track, and we remembered those who have been touched by cancer.
The chair member from the National City Relay For Life was proud to report that the event had a total of 28 teams come together, bringing approximately 300 participants who raised $70,000 through Relay For Life. This wonderous group of 88 survivors provided inspiration to all.
Overall, the experience was truly special. I met a lot of great people, had a lot of fun, and made special memories!
Remember..There's no finish line until we find a cure!
