My STAND OUT SPEAK OUT piece addressing the question: What are the qualities we should look for in a political leader? I played on the themes CHANGE and EXPERIENCE, coming to the conclusion that if we want CHANGE we must learn from our EXPERIENCE and take it grassroots. In short, local activism and sustained civic participation is more important than political leadership. We must lead ourselves.

My name is Robert Florescu, and I am a 19 year old college student from Denver, CO. I created this song "Sunrise" and the lyrics based on Obama?s speeches and my concern for the role of our "New Generation" in U.S. politics. My 10 year old sister Felicity Florescu and I are the performers and my mom filmed the video. The contest questions that would best fit my music video are: Human Rights and Social Inclusion - What limits young people from having a voice and influence on what matters to them? and Understanding and Shaping Power: What are the qualities we should look for in a political leader? I created this song for the Democratic National Convention, and my sister and I want to perform it live at the Convention, especially in front of a large crowd in a setting which will have lots of media coverage. I also entered my submission for the "America Live and In Person" DNC contest (that is where I found out about this contest) and it currently has the highest rating, considering that it also has the highest number of votes of all submissions on that site. I decided to enter this contest too because it clearly states that the winners will perform live at the Convention, which is exactly what my sister and I want to do.
