  • Keeping the Faith

    • From: RichterScale
    • Description:

I live in West Virginia where exposure to hockey is limited in certain areas. In 1990, I got to experience my first professional game in Pittsburgh, since it was close to my college. The Pens played the Rangers, and since my friend was a Pens fan, I naturally had to root against him, and have been a Rangers fan since then.

I will never forget the experience of the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs. To this day, images of those games flash through my head, and it is those images, and the strange aura of those games that leads me to believe something special, something different is happening again this year.

Those of us who remember the incredible magic of 1994 know that anything is possible, and as this series returns to Pittsburgh for game 5, we MUST KEEP THE FAITH!!

Although we are simply fans, not active members on the ice, our team realizes the support and energy we provide, and it is our duty not to watch and cheer with doubt and anxiety, but rather with the expectation of victory. To steal a phrase from Jagr, I encourage everyone to believe, and for those of you lucky enough to attend the game, raise your voices loud enough for those of us at home to hear.

      Go Rangers!!!

wish that avery would of taken less money to stay with the rangers but he was set on 4 mil a yr . i love avery but def not for 4 mil a yr you know..and i wish we did get jagr would of been nice to at least 2 first line wingers. But I read somewhere that he wanted 7.5 mil and thats to much cause he didn,t do shit during the season. If you want 7.5 then i want at least 90points or more for that kind of money.Zherdev looks good cam off a good season well just see what he can do and hopefully Naslund can wake-up here n get back into 03 form. On Defense I like Tyutin he was good player...But Thank God They Got ride of Backman he sucked what a disappointment last year..Redden i guess ok pick up we need a defensemen thank can move the puck well havent had that since brian leetch...but we need a big guy on defense that gonna but guys on the ass'es n protect of our guys....Well I guess where just gonna have to wait for the season to start to see if where gonna Hang Sather

  • Tuesdays Game

    • From: jorek
    • Description:

      From my sister Agravaine

"Put the refs behind you. Put the early whistle behind you. Everyone who is coming to the game on Tues, I don't have tickets but I will be at the Garden. Come prepared to show your support for your team. You have to have faith. Five on five the boys have been strong. Special teams we have struggled but our power play does have the ability to get hot for times. And hopefully they will turn it around. The boys, with all our support, will come back in this series. The series isn't over until one team has four wins. If we win both t the Garden its a new series come on fans let's get working and show our support. Cheers, Let's Go RANGERS!! BLEED BLUE!!"

      From me

The Rangers haven't played well no sense kidding about that but we all know they can play better and even not playing well they have kept the Penguins close and the games have been winnable games. Series isn't over until one team has four wins that hasn't happened yet. The Rangers have played well against teh Penguins at MSG all year. The Rnger win two games at the Garden and the momentum moves to their favor for a game 5 at Pittsburgh. One junk goal can start a pp one good win can start a run. The Rangers have done well this year when their backs are against the wall. And I think that Tuesday and Thursday are two games that can change this series. So yeah forget the disputed calls because they are in the past. What needs to happen now is a focus on the future this series is not over. The Rangers have played two sloppy games and lost by one goal in game one and two in game two (one of those being a empty netter)

They can play better we know it and they know it now they just need to do it!

      Let's Go Rangers!

  • New York Rangers fans: the mos

    • From: RangersFan4Ever
    • Description:

If we look at some of the most sucessful franchises in sports: New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics, Montreal Canadiens, etc., there is none more unique than the New York Rangers. They may not be the most successful team ever, but they sure are the "classiest team in hockey." They've got the most passionate fans in the world. If you look at the Rangers' attendance records, they have sold out EVERY GAME, whether it was during a winning season or a disappointing season. They draw 18,200 fans to ALL games at Madison Square Garden. Why is that? Rangers fans are the most loyal and the most faithful fans ever. They don't care if the Rangers win or lose, they just want to see the team they love. The Rangers have had they bad moments. From not winning the cup in a 54 year drought to not making the playoffs from 1998-2004, their fans continued to support their beloved Blueshirts. I DON'T want to hear the ignorant Islanders and Devils fans say "you guys play at the Garden, in the biggest city in the world, and half of your seats are owned by businesses." Because if you look at the Knicks, they play in the same arena/city, and has half of their seats owned by businesses. But when they stink, they don't draw sell out crowds, whereas for the Rangers, they sellout whether they win OR lose.

In Game 6 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Quarter Finals, after the Rangers lost to Buffalo 5-4 in New York, the Garden faithful remained in the arena, and still gave the Rangers a standing ovation for their efforts. For the Rangers fans, there is no shame in defeat. Just pride in how far they came. That's why the Rangers, even though they lost, still gave their fans a final salute by raising their sticks. In contrast, Islanders and Devils fans would be complaining and cry like babies when they lose. They are the biggest sore losers in the world.

I don't know if any other fan notices, but I think Rangers fans share a bond together. There is always this feeling of love between Rangers fans. Whenever I see someone, a stranger, a classmate, people from facebook, etc., I would go up to them and say "Lets go Rangers," and would have a good conversation with them. That's why most of my friends who like hockey are Rangers fans. Rangers fans has this bond that I don't think any fan of other team would have.

  • Second round options....

    • From: nyrskinneth
    • Description:

Just so it's clear to everyone...

The Rangers have a winning record against all 4 possible second round opponents.

      Pittsburgh........................... 5 wins - 3 loses

      Montreal............................ . 3 - 0 - 1 OT loss

      Washington........................ 2 - 0 - 2

      Philadelphia........................ 5 - 1 - 2

The Rangers need to following to happen to face these opponents in the second round

Pittsburgh - Montreal and Philadelphia to win

Montreal - Montreal and Washington to win

Washington - Washington and Boston to win

Philadelphia - Philadelphia and Boston to win (home-ice advantage)

      Two big games tonight...

Boston - Montreal Game 7 in Montreal

Washington - Philadelphia Game 6 in Philly

With all that being said, I think Philly with home ice is the obvious choice, but Playing WSH or MON looks real enticing, no?

  • Great Season/ Off Season Musts

    • From: malber9
    • Description:

First off all to all players, coaches, staff, and fans: It was a great year!!! We were never supposed to come from a disgrace in the nhl in 2003-04 to a playoff team for 3 conscutive years after the lockout, and beating the thrashers (last year) and the devils (this year). So I send Conratulations out to anyone that impacted this season.

      Now for this offseason:

Last offseason was a start, but as we can see, there is still a little work to do.

      1. We have to find a way to keep Sean Avery in a Ranger Jersey. He impacts games by his presence, and him and Jagr make one of the best 2-man combos for a powerplay out there. Every team needs an agitator to win, and I believe that Avery is the best in the NHL at what he does.

      2. SIGN JAGR!!!!! The Rangers record has skyrocketed since he put on a NYR sweater. He is the Team Leader in the Locker Room and On the Ice. He also is great at protecting the puck in traffic, which in turn leads to 5 on 5 and powerplay goals, which you need to win the big games, not to mention that he has that "it factor" that you need and he has playoff and Stanley Cup Final and Wins so he knows what it takes to win in the playoffs.

I believe that all the Rangers need to be a top-5 cup contender next year is:

      1. A power forward similar to Jagr : Jagr is good.....but he is aging, and he cant be on the ice for 25 minutes a night anymore.

      and

      2. A big, pysical defenceman : Notice when Crosby and Malkin were innefective in the series, it was when they were being hit and hit and hit again. That takes away their speed, which is their key asset.

Other than that, I believe there is a great mix of youth and experience and grit, talent and speedy guys. I see know real personel problems.

But what I do see is talented forwards that know how to put the puck in the net like Jagr, Shanahan, Drury, Gomez, and Straka.

I see up-and-coming players like Dawes, Callahan, Backman, Dubinsky, Korpikoski, and Staal.

Everyone else has a role and a key part on this team, and better, they know their role.

But above all else, We have the best goalie in the world in King Henrik Lundqvist!!!

So, Ranger Fans, Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride With This Team.

We Are the New York Rangers!!

  • Slats: Resign Avery

    • From: dlc010
    • Description:

      Dear Mr. Sather:

Your negotiating position regarding Sean Avery is very flawed. After the debacle you created last year bashing him in a arbitration brief that was way off base to insulting him with an low offer this year after he proves his worth time and time again. Sean has proven to be a great player and a great Ranger. Sean has only asked for market value and you are offering well below market for his abilities. He is invaluble to our team. The guy proves again in this playoff, prior to his injury, that he will leave his body parts on the ice before he will let his team down. Moreover, no one is in "fatso's" head like he is. Similar to John Starks in the 90's for the Knicks and Paul O'Neill for the Yankees, this guy is all heart, he plays with a fierce desire and he looks out for his teammates. Please pay him what he's worth and keep him a Ranger.

  • 1st blog ever, 4-0 and I love

    • From: ChrisDruryNumber1Fan
    • Description:

Wow, hockey season in midtown Manhattan is off to a roaring start. The Rangers are 4-0 since naming CHRIS DRURY captain! Nah, it's probably just a coincidence ;) But think about it: in his last season in Buffalo, Chris Drury was the road captain for the Sabres (I think Briere was the home captain) and the Sabres had one of the best road records in the league. You may not think that leadership abilities and decision-making on the fly has a huge impact on the game, but history will tell you that it does. But of course, what good is leadership without a team to lead? Which brings me to my next subject, the players.

When the Rangers signed Aaron Voros in July, I let out a groan of frustration and berated anyone who would come near me about how signing such a bum is a waste of money. Odds are there are a lot of us out there who thought this was the case. WOW, let me be the first to admit that I was totally wrong about Aaron Voros. I would like to take the opportunity to whole-heartedly apologize to him, and tell everyone that he, after 4 games, has broken the top 3 of my favorite rangers. Which is currently: 1. Chris Drury (duh) 2. Brandon Dubinsky 3. Aaron Voros (sorry i ever doubted you)

Now, let's talk about what's been happening on the ice. We haven't lost yet! isn't that amazing? After reading so many different season previews from the media (most of which were largely indecisive) no one really knew how we would do. But over in Prague, the King gave the bolts fits, only yielding 2 goals in as many games. Dubinsky and Redden stood out in Prague as the top dogs, as far as skaters go. Redden man, that guy has some shot. He's gonna be a real weapon on the power play, with Gomez setting him up: are you kidding??? Our special teams look like something to be excited about.

Now back to North America, and MSG against the Hawks. Until about halfway through the game, it was up in the air. But Dubi took over, and he  was named 3rd star; Voros was first star, which didnt surprise me (hes so good). Lundqvist had another solid outing, both goals were earned for the hawks. Philadelphia was something of an enigma. I thought it was more fatigue than anything; keep in mind Valli was in net and not Lundqvist. Valli is an enigma in himself; the guy could be a superstar if not for his dreadful 5-hole. He's so beatable down there, i'm surprised not too many other teams have picked up on it. But Zherdev scores, a sick wrap around by Freddie Sjostrom, and another goal that i cant recall at the moment, and tack on a Roszival PP goal to make it 4-0. the flyers scored 3, but like the ones against Chicago, none of them were softies. but the refs blew a Goaltender interference call on the second philly goal. Valli was down and out. But whatever; we're 4-0 and I'm pretty happy! Blueshirt nation should be as well! tomorrow we face a tough team in Jersey, and we'll take it from there. I'm gonna try to continue this blog weekly, even when my high school baseball season kicks off in January: keep in mind I'm a shortstop before I'm a blogger haha. I should be getting a webcam soon so I won't have to type all this too. Anyway, that's it for now! hope you enjoyed what will hopefully be the first of many blogs.Laughing

  • CHANT 4 SHANNY

    • From: ram11273
    • Description:

THOSE WHO ARE ATTENDING OPENING NIGHT, I SAW --IF SHANNY IS NOT SIGNED--WE CHANT "WE WANT SHANNY" IF HE IS SIGNED WE STILL CHANT "SHANNY, SHANNY". DID ANYONE HEAR WHAT SHANNY SAID TO THE FANS AT THE LAST HOME GAME? HE'S THE ONE WHO GOT THE FANS GOING, EVEN THOUGH THEY LOST IN A SHOOTOUT. HE SAID "WE NEED YOU FANS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THIS BUILDING AND WE ARE HERE TO GIVE BACK TO YOU GUYS. WE NEED YOU TO KEEP MAKING NOISE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT KEEPS US GOING". I DON'T WANT TO UPSET JAGR FANS, BUT IN MY OPINION, SHANNY IS/WAS MORE OF A CAPTAIN THAN JAGR WAS. SHANNY IS THE ONE WHO SPOKE WITH THE REFS TO SEE WHY A CALL WAS CALLED, AND IF YOU PAID ATTENTION, WHEN HE WAS ON THE BENCH HE SPOKE WITH THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS TO GIVE THEM TIPS. DRURY WAS INTERVIEWED AND HE SAID HE HOPES SHANNY COMES BACK BECAUSE HE HELPED HIM A LOT LAST SEASON. LUNDQVIST SAID HE HOPES HE COMES BACK AND THAT HE'S SEEN SHANNY AND THAT SHANNY HAS BEEN WORKING OUT AND THAT HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S STILL IN THE FORM OF A GREAT PLAYER. SO LIKE I SAID CHANT FOR SHANNY, WHETHER HE'S THERE OR NOT. I'M NOT A BIG NEDVED FAN-EVEN THOUGH HE JUST SCORED THE FIRST GOAL OF THIS PRE-SEASON GAME-BUT I THINK SHANNY SHOULD BE THE GUY ON THAT ICE, AND IF NEDVED STAYS (FOR THE 3RD TIME) THAN I BELIEVE SHANNY CAN STILL FIT INTO THE ROSTER. JOHN GIANNONE INTERVIEWED LUNDQVIST AND SAID THAT SHANNY IS STILL A LEADER. I AGREE WITH HENRIK. HE ALSO ASKED LUNDQVIST IF HE IS LIKE THE FANS (HEY WE ARE ACTUALLY BEING NOTICED) WHO ARE UPSET THAT SHANNY IS NOT THERE AND IF HE THINKS HE WILL BE. THAT'S WHEN HE SAID THAT SHANNY IS LOOKING GOOD AND CAN BE THE GREAT PLAYER THAT HE IS. THESE INTERVIEWS ARE ON NEWYORKRANGERS.COM UNDER THE RENOVATION INTERVIEWS. GIANONNE ALSO SAID THAT THE RANGERS MIGHT JUST GO WITH 3 CA T' /ALT' .

IT JUST LOOKS RIGHT!!! SHANNY NYC

I'm sick of people that keep saying "Avery sucks! He doesn't belong in the NHL. He has no talent." Sure he might intagonize people and fight, and take it too far sometimes, but its part of the game. Get over it. If he was on your team you would love him. Look at how good he is and how he plays every shift like it matters the most. So only say something if your not ignorant and you have a good idea about whats going on in hockey.

Henrik and Joel Lundqvist would love the chance to play each other in the Stanley Cup Finals. Henrik Lundqvist and Joel Lundqvist (2006)

H enrik's identical twin, Joel, a Dallas Star' center

      Joel Lundqvist said:

"Yeah, my wife gave birth to our first child (on April 20); a little girl (Vilma ) around lunchtime," Joel told NHL.com. "So, to us, he's Uncle Henrik now."

It's definitely not the first time Joel has given Henrik a little nudge to the gut with sly commentary, and it certainly won't be the last, but the brotherly bond between Henrik and Joel is certainly special. In addition to playing the game they love in different cities, they are also excited about the prospects of possibly meeting in hockey's biggest series -- the Stanley Cup Final.

"It's still far down the road, but wouldn't that be something if we met up in the Final?" Joel said. "Of course, it's possible since we both play for teams that have advanced and want to go all the way. It would be awesome if it happens."

      Joel said:

"Each of us really wanted to win, so that's why it was always the best when we were on the same team. If one was on the other team and lost, that person sometimes ended up crying, just like any other young brother would, or running away. So it was better being together."
