If we look at some of the most sucessful franchises in sports: New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics, Montreal Canadiens, etc., there is none more unique than the New York Rangers. They may not be the most successful team ever, but they sure are the "classiest team in hockey." They've got the most passionate fans in the world. If you look at the Rangers' attendance records, they have sold out EVERY GAME, whether it was during a winning season or a disappointing season. They draw 18,200 fans to ALL games at Madison Square Garden. Why is that? Rangers fans are the most loyal and the most faithful fans ever. They don't care if the Rangers win or lose, they just want to see the team they love. The Rangers have had they bad moments. From not winning the cup in a 54 year drought to not making the playoffs from 1998-2004, their fans continued to support their beloved Blueshirts. I DON'T want to hear the ignorant Islanders and Devils fans say "you guys play at the Garden, in the biggest city in the world, and half of your seats are owned by businesses." Because if you look at the Knicks, they play in the same arena/city, and has half of their seats owned by businesses. But when they stink, they don't draw sell out crowds, whereas for the Rangers, they sellout whether they win OR lose.
In Game 6 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Quarter Finals, after the Rangers lost to Buffalo 5-4 in New York, the Garden faithful remained in the arena, and still gave the Rangers a standing ovation for their efforts. For the Rangers fans, there is no shame in defeat. Just pride in how far they came. That's why the Rangers, even though they lost, still gave their fans a final salute by raising their sticks. In contrast, Islanders and Devils fans would be complaining and cry like babies when they lose. They are the biggest sore losers in the world.
I don't know if any other fan notices, but I think Rangers fans share a bond together. There is always this feeling of love between Rangers fans. Whenever I see someone, a stranger, a classmate, people from facebook, etc., I would go up to them and say "Lets go Rangers," and would have a good conversation with them. That's why most of my friends who like hockey are Rangers fans. Rangers fans has this bond that I don't think any fan of other team would have.

lollllllllllllllllllllllllllll
how do you find the idea??
As I sit here watching the Penguins dance over my Rangers, I can’t help but notice how bias the refs are. Why? Because Crosby and Malkin are the future of the NHL? What happened with the high stick on Drury? Oh that’s right, the Penguins’ did it, so no call. But if someone even checks the Penguins, it’s a penalty. I don’t know what kind of shift the NHL is running, but I think the teams and their fans deserve a fair game from refs that have no intentions on being bias. The NHL commission needs to look at the men in black and white and seriously start weeding through the ranks! It’s a complete disgrace on the game! SHAPE UP, NHL!
it should not be.
class a play - a class Sasion :-) thanks Rangers - thanks Henrik, you were very good!!
Macho man and provocateur Sean Avery -- by some accounts the most hated player in the National Hockey League -- will be joining the estrogen-infused world of fashion as an unpaid intern at Vogue magazine.
in his 14 months as a Rangers left wing, Avery has tallied 212 penalty minutes, which makes many wonder if he can handle editorial collaboration and taking orders as an intern.
"We are going to have to see how far the Rangers go to
determine when he will start, but he will certainly be here and get an
internship with a variety of editors," Patrick O'Connell, director of
communications for Vogue, told ABCNews.com. "I don't know if he'll be
writing yet, but he will be doing regular tasks."
That means the stocky, 28-year-old athlete -- who is in the midst of the NHL playoffs --- will be "answering phones, working photo shoots, getting samples, contacting people, working the gamut," according to O'Connell.
The magazine internship is not without precedent. Matt Chatham, the starting linebacker for the New York Jets, was a writing intern at Esquire in 2004 and, according to one inside source, "was a really nice kid and did well."
"He is ridiculously obsessed with fashion," Avery's publicist Nicole Chabot told ABCNews.com. "He loves it more than anything in the world. It's something he has always wanted to do."
He's also charming, she noted. "There is not a woman that doesn't fall in love with him in five minutes."
He is "what hockey people call an agitator," writes The New Yorker's Nick Paumgarten. "His job, which seems to have no analogue in sports -- or in any line of work, except maybe terrorism -- is to annoy his opponents so intensely that they cannot resist retaliating. He goads foes into losing their focus and, in theory, the game."
Good bye Avery
I believe it am the correct for avery
unfortunate around the ice hockey player it into the fashion pulls!
it is located much too gladly in the center - it needs the attention, like air to breathing :-)
in the summer he becomes a free agent, how you find its new away?
OK, I DON'T UPLOAD OR DOWNLOAD VIDEOS, SO HERE IS THE LINK TO THE VIDEO. SHANNY THE JOKER. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHjkdW9qmI8
so many to choose but it has to be Bruce Driver. Malik is moving up the ranks quickly though
alrighty well i have a couple words for mr. glen sather-UR AN ASS...u dont know the first thing about hockey or hockey players &letting go of sean avery was the worst thing u could do for the team...he was the backbone of the team and i can honestly call him the MVP...announcing that he has no patience for THE FUCKING CAPITAN OF THE TEAM WAS GREAT FOR HIS REP TOO...next season was supposed to be about building up from last seasons success not starting from scratch and u cant even do that succefully without the two best players
I'm sick of people that keep saying "Avery sucks! He doesn't belong in the NHL. He has no talent." Sure he might intagonize people and fight, and take it too far sometimes, but its part of the game. Get over it. If he was on your team you would love him. Look at how good he is and how he plays every shift like it matters the most. So only say something if your not ignorant and you have a good idea about whats going on in hockey.
Ok... it's official... I'm going through withdrawls... I can't take this "no hockey" garbage... especially that I can't watch my boys! It was about 100 and change this past weekend and all I wore was my jersey... very very hot... very bad idea... I miss them so much :( it's about 120 something days till the puck drops... right??? please... :) Anywho just spreading some love to all my fellow blueshirts! Hope your summer is great and keep on bbq'in! xoxo's
Mattias Weinhandl scored 3:15 into overtime Wednesday, giving Sweden a 3-2 victory over the Czech Republic and a berth in the semifinals at the World Hockey Championships.
Sweden will play Canada, an 8-2 winner later Wednesday in Halifax, Nova
Scotia, on Friday in Quebec City. It is the eighth consecutive year Sweden will
play in the semifinals, where it lost 4-1 to Canada last year in Moscow.
The Czechs had just killed a penalty when Weinhandl slipped a backhanded shot in heavy traffic toward the net, where it slid just inside the goal post.
Radim Vrbata gave the Czechs a 2-1 lead on a penalty shot 8:19 into the third period after he was tripped on a breakaway. Sweden got it back on a disputed goal by Marcus Nilson with 3:38 remaining, setting up the 10-minute, 4-on-4 overtime period.
Rickard Wallin backed into Milan Hnilicka and knocked him over, and the Czech goaltender was unable to get up in time to stop Nilson’s shot. The Czechs complained vehemently to the referees to no avail.
Sweden’s Patric Hornqvist and Czech Tomas Rolinek exchanged goals in the second period.
The Swedes spent much of an uneventful first period killing penalties, but managed to get the best chance when Hnilicka robbed Hornqvist from the slot with a quick glove save.
Sweden finally broke through on a power play in the second period, when Hornqvist jumped on Anton Stralman’s rebound, stepped around Hnilicka and slid in his sixth goal of the tournament.
The Czechs tied it on a rush when Rolinek trailed and banged home Ales Kotalik’s rebound past goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
It becomes heavy against Canada for Sweden. I am strained whether Canada against Sweden also as highly win, as with its other plays.
Sather will officially be crowned the stupidest person in the Ranger's organization soon. Is he seriously going to let Aves go? Is he that stupid? Does he want the cup or the money he's going to get when every team in the NHL jumps on getting Aves? Avery has brought so much to the team, and to the fans. When Aves makes a play, and even when he walks out onto the ice, an energy comes out that is like no other. The effort he brings to the game and the passion he has for his teammates, and only his teammates, is extremely rare. He is what we need if we want to make the playoffs again. Sather, you better wake up and realize what you might be letting go. You can have Avery, tons of Avery loving fans, and possibly the cup, or you could have a bunch of fans that have lost all respect for you, and no cup. You choose bud.
Glen Sather is the reason why we dont have the backbone of Rangers. Sather has promised to resign Avery, Jagr, Straka and Shanahan. And what happened, Avery is in Dallas, playing with Lundqvist #2. Jagr and Straka are playing in Russia. And Shanahan is an unrestricted free agent, where he can get picked up by any team at any time. So what im saying is that Glen Sather is doing a horrible job as our GM. My plan is to replace Glen Sather, with a member of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team. Someone like Leetch, or Mark Messier. Or maybe, the best goaltender MIKE RICHTER
The popular mindset during this offseason is to be skeptical of the moves, or lackthereof, made by Glen Sather and the New York Rangers. The Rangers were a solid team that had made the playoffs for three straight years while maintaining a core of veteran players. When Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka and Brendan Shanahan did not re-sign with the club for the fourth post-lockout season, it seemed to many that the Rangers had lost the heart and soul of their team and that there would be nobody to carry them deep into the playoffs. If you add sparkplug Sean Avery to the list of departing key players, the offseason losses seem too much to handle. What people who do not intensively follow the Rangers seem to miss is that in the 2007-2008, while the four players certainly played big roles, they were not relied on as heavily as in previous years.
Jagr exploded during the late season and the first round of the playoffs, but during the first 60 games, he was more a liability than an asset. When a player gets around 35 goals and 100 points, it is easy to disregard his shortcomings. however, the aging Jagr not only had one of the worst seasons of his career, but also hurt the chemistry and success of the Rangers. Putting aside his poor defensive play and his inconsistant effort, Jagr did not allow Scott Gomez and Chris Drury to fill the one-two center positions as fans, management and talent level suggested. Instead, the finicky Jagr could only fit with rookie center Brandon Dubinsky who is certainly a talented player, but is not yet on the level of the newly acquired centers. By simply analyzing the top line center of playoff teams, it is clear that Dubinsky was the least productive in the regular season. Though there are no doubts to his skill and potential, it is tough for such a player to line up against a Crosby or Zetterberg with the season on the line. With Jagr now gone, the team has a better chance of "clicking." Drury and Gomez can lead the team at center while Dubinsky can give great depth to a 3rd line, and not vice versa.
Martin Straka and Brendan Shanahan were first and foremost the leaders of the team. They both had slow years and also seemed to feel the effects of age. With Straka leaving the NHL and Shanahan yet to sign a contract, it is clear that there careers were at their low points. Like Jagr, they did contribute to the team but were not heavily relied upon like they had been in prior seasons. This is just a tribute to the progress the Rangers organization has made since the lockout when they initially were carried by one or two players but eventually grew and many others contributed to carry the load. Petr Prucha, Ryan Callahan and Marc Staal are just a few of the new faces who have stepped up to help carry the team and, now that Straka and Shanahan are gone, are capable of playing more important roles.
If any loss will be felt the most, it is the departure of Sean Avery. A feud between Avery and Sather that most likely took root during Avery's very public arbitration did no good in helping the two parties come to a contract agreement. Not only does the Rangers' record "with Avery" versus "without Avery" portray his importance, but his oft overlooked offensive ability combined with his agitating effectiveness was clearly a big factor in the past 1 1/2 seasons. However, Avery also brought baggage to the table. His competitive style of play had a downside and he often straddled the line of acceptable and unacceptable behavior. No doubt he will be missed sorely but his loss also solves some problems as well.
The replacements of the four offenseman are questionable as well. Markus Naslund has been inconsistant and is on the downside of his career, Nikolai Zherdev has not yet reached the level that is expected of him and Wade Redden seems to fluctuate between an all star and a basket case. However, with Gomez and Drury now at the helm of the offense and the young core expected to step up even more this season, it is very likely that the new three will have solid seasons. Even in the worst case scenario, it is difficult to imagine that the offense will be as pitiful as it was last season when the team were the one of bottom feeders in goals scored. So yes, they are different than they were last year. But diffenrent is not always bad. They are much younger - only Redden, Naslund and Drury are over 30 - and if the team is not successful this year, they will be together for many years to come. The already solid defense has improved even more and many needs, such as power play quarterback, have been filled. This was not an offseason of signing Drury and Gomez and losing almost nobody. It was an offseason of tweaking and transitioning. Needs were filled, aging players were replaced with younger ones and all in all, the Rangers completed a process of young to old that costs most teams more time and competitive abilty than it did in this instance.
The core of the New York Rangers has not been replaced. What was replaced was the core of yesterday, and what has been added to today's core of is the core of the tomorrow.
Coming up soon: Welcome to New York- A breakdown of each new Broadway Blueshirt.

Greetings Rangers Fans:
For 44 years, I have been a Canadian Rangers Fan. Although I have seen our team play at the Air Canada Center, in Toronto (Maple Leafs) and in Ottawa (Senators), I have never had the opportunity to see the Rangers at MSG.
I am planning a pilgrimage to New York City in hope of seeing my beloved team play on October 17,2008, against the Toronto Maple Leafs (Go Rangers).
It is my hope that someone out there can assist me with obtaining tickets for this once in a lifetime trip.
Last year, when Mark Messier was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, in Toronto , the New York Rangers came to the Hockey Hall of Fame for an autograph signing. The entire team agreed to meet with a limited number of fans and everyone signed a poster. Only 300 of these commemorative posters were signed. I was fortunate enough to be there and obtain my poster. My wife was with me and she also has one.
We are wondering if there is anyone out there who would consider a trade. I will require 4 tickets to this hockey game and, preferably, rather good seats, as this is my only chance to see the Rangers at home.
I would be prepared to trade this poster for the best offer of tickets for this game. Anyone interested can e-mail me at p.leadbeater@sympatico.ca. I have to move fairly quickly as I must then book accommodations, travel etc.
My other option would be to purchase from season ticket holders.
This poster has been signed by all members of the 2007-2008 NY Rangers. It is a limited edition and will not be repeated (Obviously). A GREAT Collectors item to have and brag about. How often do YOU get to Toronto ?
It would be nice to connect with a true Rangers Fan and perhaps establish a liaison. There are a few Rangers fans up here but none that I know of. You will be fulfilling a lifetime dream for me and in return will receive my undying gratitude and a terrific poster. I can forward a photo of the signed poster to interested individuals.
Hey Tricarico where are U
Know you're following the boy's ..... what you been up too ... where are U
I'm still in P'cola
I have been tivo taping or attending the games so far this season. Thank goodness the one game I missed and forgot to tape, was Saturday vs Toronto!
I was at the first NYR v TML game and Renney picked Valiquette for that game too..I thought it was becuz he wanted to give Lundquist a rest, before the Red Wings game..and Saturday he does it again- plays Valiquette- so is it becuz he doesn't view TML as a contending team - and therefore thinks an easier win against them? Is that what the Rangers expected- as they had steamed up to 5 consecutive wins - for the 2nd time? What is it about #6 they cannot achieve? Do they get lost in the hype of being #1 or is Renney just changing up the line scrimmages so much- the team cannot cohesively play well- even against the lesser Canadian teams? And do NOT forget- this scrappy Leafs team- beat the Red Wings- in Detroit- so what DOES that say about our Rangers??
I understand Renney's perspective- that the players are interchangeable- but without solidfying the lines and without solid performances- there will be no consistency and without consistency there are no wins leading to the Stanley Cup finals.I know this is a hugely talented team, and there will be more break out perfirmances by Zherdev- Dubinsky- Voros ..gee does that line sound familiar? LOL
Anyway- I could not belive i was out all day- return home-expecting to hear the highlights of another win for the Rangers, & what I got was Renney's deliverance on why they got what they deserved and didn't play according to expectations... How can we expect great sportsmanship and outstanding playmakers- when we cannot expect the same lines..if it is this confusing to us fans- how confusing must it be to the players? Each line is a team and the team itself has offensive team lines and defensive team lines..
Renney- stop messing with the LINES already and let the guys get their game on & play!
GO.. GO... !
