    This video is from CNN website.  The video is of the site wreckage from the F/A-18D jet that crashed into a home in San Diego near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar December 7th 2008.  There are two Rods caught on tape.  The first is about 3 seconds in that moves from Left to right and then disappears after it passes the cloud of smoke.  The second, which is the better of the two sightings, is about 15 seconds and moves from right to left which clearly shows the "wings" of the Rod and a non straight flight pattern.

• Flying Manta Ray

You can see it flying above the clouds, then it drops a few hundred feet below them in about 1 second. Also is some still photos of alleged flying manta and eagle rays. Could Rods have once been in the ocean and eventually took to the sky???

    The camera was positioned on a tripod and aimed at 2 trees for reference points about 80 yards away and left alone for 50 minutes, and this is what showed up in the 6:14 time frame. Whatever it is its going extremely fast, as it is only in the video approximately 3 frames or 1/10th of a second. P.S. The object appears around the 3 sec time frame in this edited video, and clearly comes out from behind tree on the right, and moves up and to the left.

Got these two Rod-like things on the same day, but at different times from my home in Australia. Second appears to go behind the cloud. I have no idea how large it was.

Here is an unexpected video i've made from footage from the Eastbourne United Kingdom Airbourne airshow on Friday 17th August 2007. Collecting footage to use for another video i intended to make, i noticed these strange, fast moving objects, moving across the sky, when i reviewed the footage. You could argue these are lens flares, but i've been using camcorders for years and haven't seen flares like these before. Two of the objects even seem to chase the plane. I have no idea what these are, but they are certainly unusual. Perhaps i should have labelled this "My First UFO Video" ? ;) The music is Mission by Gary Numan (who, being an accompished stunt pilot himself, may have seen some of these things himself...) UFO's or Rods?

    Spanish Dancer Scientific name: Hexabranchus sanguineus The largest nudibranch, it can be 60 cm long. Variable colour, always in the red, orange or pink tones. Gills are distinctive, this is the only species having 6 gills, that can be withdrawn in 6 separate sheats. It lives in different environments, from the coastal bay to reef front and external reef. Nocturnal habits. If disturbed, it can swim away with the undulating mantle, recalling somehow a flamengo dancer's skirt (hence the common name). Impossible to misidentify. Apart from the size, also the 6 gills are a diagnostic character. I wonder if Rods are some how related to these creatures. The way they move through the water is similar to the way Rods move through the air. What do you think?

• Possible Rod?

    hello. in this video i was testing out my camera on a tri-pod on my up stairs apartments balcony. it stands about 9 feet above the ground and has another 3 feet including the balcony walls where i had my camera stationed on a tripod one afternoon. it was in about a 45 to 50 degree angle pointing west. i left the camera recording and i was originally going to capture a small time-lapse. after 12 minutes i said screw it.

     so i went and retrieved it after 12 minutes of recording. and never looked at the footage untill a couple days later. i was editing it in sony vagas 8 to put it in fast forward to see if i could get a time lapse out of it (12 minutes, obviously not...). it was neat tho. you could see trees blowing, and birds running around on trees. but will watching it in normal playback. to view it for the first time. at 6:35 i noticed this sound as well as a fast moving object. it's going pretty fast and made a pretty noticeable noise for the distance it was at, about 35 feet away from the camera(estimation) . wile in motion it took a 90 degree turn to the right. not sure if its a rod type thing or a bird, or what, let me know what you think. and for a hight referance the tree on the left is 50-55 feet tall. and the tree on the right is 30-35 feet tall.

    Rod shot from Airplane over France. July 2008. Super Fast Rod moving faster than the Airplane. First Shown at Actual Speed (I can't see it). Then video is slowed down slower and slower so you can see the Rod more clearly as is speeds past the airplane. Seems like the plane is standing still compared to the Rod. The plane was flying over 200 Miles Per Hour when the Rod flew by in the same direction as the Plane was flying. This is one of the fastest Rods filmed so close to the camera I've seen. Also, remember this is at high altitude. No bugs up there.

• IR nightvision Rod

    Here is a fast moving rod I caught the other night with my DVR surveilance system. This is at night, the camera used is a high end Bosch TTC0620 Dinion which is a true IR camera, it has no IR light emitters to reflect off of a object. In the freeze frames you can see the wing like things up and down on both sides of it.     The "rod effect" can be reproduced using a video camera, and can be duplicated in a repeatable scientific manner by anyone. Low light conditions in particular are contributing factors. Any objects rapid movement across the video sensors field of view will elongate as the frame rate of the camera cannot capture a clear image, the resulting sequence will show the classic rod phenomenon. Insects and even tiny gnats can look like Rods under the proper circumstances. Birds or windblown debris in a wide range of sizes can cause the effect. In outer space, ice particles and pieces of debris have also caused the effect. Often a type of undulating wavy structure can be seen running along the sides of the "rod." This repeating pattern gives grounds for believing that there was something moving rapidly on the object. An insects, or bird’s wings repetitive up and down motion is a likely explanation. A smooth appearance can result when the object is stable during its transit of the cameras field of view. A bird that was gliding or a non rotating piece of space debris is an example of the smooth looking objects. The translucent nature of the phenomena is dependent on the lighting angles and can cause them to appear to disappear when passing in front of clouds or anything with similar colorization. The illusion of a rod being very large and or fast moving is explained by the fly-by of a small object close to the lens. If we do not know the precise distance and speed of the objects in question, we cannot accurately assert the size or speed of the object.

    Taken from "vadervideo" on Youtube. While shooting some stock in (Tucson, Arizona), I discovered what could be a sky fish or "rod" in one of my clips. There is plenty of evidence that it's not a bird, bug or "other thing". Filmed by accident during a lightning and thunder microburst. My video camera shoots 29.97 (NTSC interlaced) frames a second. I have plenty of footage with birds and bugs.. they look totally different.. - length from video blur would not be the same frame by frame, plus you would see at least a ghosted flutter from a wing or wings. This is definately not a Hummingbird. (the wings made the flutter sides appear) on my hummingbird videos.

    Here is another Rod my Bosch IR surveillance camera caught, this one is quite a bit bigger then the rest. If you watch this, it flies from right to left and then disappears right by the mail box pole? I have watched this frame by frame through my DVR surveillance system and it just disappeared right there????It?s in no frames after that point?? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I?m working on one more video yet too, it?s 5 clips I?m editing into one. They where all caught on the same night hours apart. In this one too, they seem to just appear out of no where or just disappear without a trace? What the heck are these things?
