The camera was positioned on a tripod and aimed at 2 trees for reference points about 80 yards away and left alone for 50 minutes, and this is what showed up in the 6:14 time frame. Whatever it is its going extremely fast, as it is only in the video approximately 3 frames or 1/10th of a second. P.S. The object appears around the 3 sec time frame in this edited video, and clearly comes out from behind tree on the right, and moves up and to the left.

The "rod effect" can be reproduced using a video camera, and can be duplicated in a repeatable scientific manner by anyone. Low light conditions in particular are contributing factors. Any objects rapid movement across the video sensors field of view will elongate as the frame rate of the camera cannot capture a clear image, the resulting sequence will show the classic rod phenomenon.
Insects and even tiny gnats can look like Rods under the proper circumstances. Birds or windblown debris in a wide range of sizes can cause the effect. In outer space, ice particles and pieces of debris have also caused the effect. Often a type of undulating wavy structure can be seen running along the sides of the "rod." This repeating pattern gives grounds for believing that there was something moving rapidly on the object. An insects, or bird’s wings repetitive up and down motion is a likely explanation. A smooth appearance can result when the object is stable during its transit of the cameras field of view. A bird that was gliding or a non rotating piece of space debris is an example of the smooth looking objects. The translucent nature of the phenomena is dependent on the lighting angles and can cause them to appear to disappear when passing in front of clouds or anything with similar colorization.
The illusion of a rod being very large and or fast moving is explained by the fly-by of a small object close to the lens. If we do not know the precise distance and speed of the objects in question, we cannot accurately assert the size or speed of the object.

hello. in this video i was testing out my camera on a tri-pod on my up stairs apartments balcony. it stands about 9 feet above the ground and has another 3 feet including the balcony walls where i had my camera stationed on a tripod one afternoon. it was in about a 45 to 50 degree angle pointing west. i left the camera recording and i was originally going to capture a small time-lapse. after 12 minutes i said screw it.
so i went and retrieved it after 12 minutes of recording. and never looked at the footage untill a couple days later. i was editing it in sony vagas 8 to put it in fast forward to see if i could get a time lapse out of it (12 minutes, obviously not...). it was neat tho. you could see trees blowing, and birds running around on trees. but will watching it in normal playback. to view it for the first time. at 6:35 i noticed this sound as well as a fast moving object. it's going pretty fast and made a pretty noticeable noise for the distance it was at, about 35 feet away from the camera(estimation) . wile in motion it took a 90 degree turn to the right. not sure if its a rod type thing or a bird, or what, let me know what you think. and for a hight referance the tree on the left is 50-55 feet tall. and the tree on the right is 30-35 feet tall.

This Flying Manta Ray footage from the French government circa 1948 from an Airplane. The original frames were motion tracked and stabilized. You can see it flying above the clouds, then it drops a few hundred feet below them in about 1 second. Also is some still photos of alleged flying manta and eagle rays. Could Rods have once been in the ocean and eventually took to the sky???

The largest nudibranch, it can be 60 cm long. Variable colour, always in the red, orange or pink tones. Gills are distinctive, this is the only species having 6 gills, that can be withdrawn in 6 separate sheats. It lives in different environments, from the coastal bay to reef front and external reef. Nocturnal habits. If disturbed, it can swim away with the undulating mantle, recalling somehow a flamengo dancer's skirt (hence the common name).
Impossible to misidentify. Apart from the size, also the 6 gills are a diagnostic character.
I wonder if Rods are some how related to these creatures. The way they move through the water is similar to the way Rods move through the air. What do you think?

While shooting some stock in (Tucson, Arizona), I discovered what could be a sky fish or "rod" in one of my clips. There is plenty of evidence that it's not a bird, bug or "other thing". Filmed by accident during a lightning and thunder microburst. My video camera shoots 29.97 (NTSC interlaced) frames a second.
I have plenty of footage with birds and bugs.. they look totally different.. - length from video blur would not be the same frame by frame, plus you would see at least a ghosted flutter from a wing or wings.
This is definately not a Hummingbird. (the wings made the flutter sides appear) on my hummingbird videos.
I discovered this rod on the german news channel N24 3 years ago. On the channel was a report of the 5th anniversary of the 9/11 assasins. The rod appaeras directly after the 2nd crash.

Long after my son and shot a few scenes at the Calgary Zoo I noticed this "bug" flying across the scene. I slowed it down, and it seems to resemble a Rod? Is it? Thanks.
This video is from CNN website. The video is of the site wreckage from the F/A-18D jet that crashed into a home in San Diego near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar December 7th 2008. There are two Rods caught on tape. The first is about 3 seconds in that moves from Left to right and then disappears after it passes the cloud of smoke. The second, which is the better of the two sightings, is about 15 seconds and moves from right to left which clearly shows the "wings" of the Rod and a non straight flight pattern.

Video Photographer Shoots Apparent UFO
A video photographer at a local television station got more than he
bargained for when he went to shoot planes taking off at the Albany
International Airport on Sunday afternoon. The station employee of
WXXA-TV, not only got a video shot of Northwest Airlines Flight 1549
taking off for Detroit, but also shot what appeared to be a UFO
streaking across the sky at his Troy-Schenectady Road perch. The
object appeared rectangular in shape and flew above the clouds at
times at a high rate of speed. After reporting the incident, the
Albany County Sheriff's Department and FBI agents converged upon the
Albany station to analyze the tape of the object that did not show up
on radar. No official determination was released by authorities.

Albany, NY Fox TV UFO Case
At 07:30 hrs. (Pacific) on Monday morning, October 21, 2002, the
National UFO Reporting Center received a telephone call from a
television news reporter, Mr. Dan Bazile, with FOX 23 news (a Clear
Channel Communication-owned station), who apprised us that one of
their photographers had inadvertently captured brief footage of a very
bizarre object streaking across the sky near Albany, NY. He described
that one of their photographers had been out on Sunday afternoon,
October 20th, photographing aircraft at a nearby airport, and that the
peculiar object had been detected in the news studio when the footage
was being examined at slow speed.
From that first telephone conversation, NUFORC was not left with a
clear understanding of the nature of the object and its appearance,
but Mr. Bazile offered to forward to NUFORC still images from the
tape. NUFORC offered to help identify the object, if possible, and to
put the station in touch with photo analysts, who might be able to
assist in further analysis.
In a second conversation with Mr. Bazile on Tuesday morning, October
22, he apprised NUFORC that the original video tape of the object had
been forcibly "confiscated" from the "young photographer" by "four FBI
agents," from the Albany, NY, FBI offices, a statement which now is in
question. (Please see paragraphs below.) Mr. Bazile went on to
describe how the agents had invited the photographer outside the
station, and that the agents had then "taken" the "original" tape from
the photographer, who had it on his person at the time of the meeting
with the FBI personnel. When NUFORC suggested that such an act, in the
absence of a court warrant, might be illegal, Mr. Bazile averred that
he agreed with that assessment. However, he stated that the station
still had in its possession several copies of the original tape.
When NUFORC asked Mr. Bazile whether FOX 23 was planning to do a news
report on the incident with the FBI, he responded that the station was
"considering" that possibility, but such a decision was out of his
hands. He then stated that in order to answer that question, he would
like first to speak with his "supervisor" about the matter, and that
he would call back "in a few minutes."
After approximately 45 minutes had elapsed, NUFORC telephoned FOX 23
and requested to be put in touch with Mr. Bazile. After a short period
of time, he came on the line, but after only a very short conversation
he said he would like to put his supervisor, Mr. Dave Brown, Station
News Director for FOX 23, on the line.
During our 7-minute conversation with Mr. Brown, he stated that a copy
of the tape had been provided to the personnel from the FBI by his
station voluntarily, because his station "willingly co-operated with
members of law enforcement." He added that he personally had provided
the video to the FBI, that it had not been "taken" by them, as had
been suggested by Mr. Bazile. Mr. Brown stated that he had arrived at
work on Sunday evening "at about 8 or 9 o'clock," and that FBI
personnel had been photographed in the station while they watched the
tape, and that that footage had been aired by the station on Sunday
night as a news report. Mr. Brown implied that this fact illustrated
that there had been no "mystery" surrounding the FBI's interest in the
footage, and that, in his opinion, no impropriety surrounded the
transfer of the tape to the FBI personnel.
Mr. Brown also added that he did not know whether the original tape
had been provided to the FBI, or whether they had received a copy.
However, he said that with digital tape, it really did not matter,
since very little fidelity was lost in a copied tape.
When asked how many representatives from the FBI had been present at
the station on Sunday night, he said that he did not know, but there
were at least two representatives from that office present. He said
there might have been more, but he could not be certain, since "there
were so many people present in the station that night."
Mr. Brown closed the conversation with the statement that FOX 23 would
not be devoting any more news coverage to the footage, suggesting that
the story was now old news, and that, in his opinion, it did not
warrant any further attention by his station.
Following our conversation with Mr. Brown, NUFORC contacted the FBI
offices in Albany [(518) 465-7551]. We spoke with Lisa Massaroni, a
public affairs spokeswoman, who apprised us that to the best of her
knowledge, the FBI office did have a copy of the tape, that their
personnel were planning to analyze it, but that she did not know the
status of the investigation. She directed us to her supervisor for any
further questions, and added that he would be out of his office until
October 24th.
NUFORC also was contacted by a gentleman from Birmingham, AL, Mr.
Brian Huff, a forensic video analyst, who had captured the video from
the FOX 23 website, and who has analyzed the tape. We provide elements
of his video analysis with this statement. Mr. Huff has stated to
NUFORC that, based on his analysis of the footage, the object is
genuine, and that it is not a superimposed image. He also stated that
the object is on the other side of the clouds, which provides some
perspective as to the size of the object, and its velocity, which Mr.
Huff concludes is considerable. We extend our gratitude to Mr. Huff
for sharing his analysis with NUFORC and Jeff Rense.
