I am a long time support of Brian Therrien and the work he does at the Disability Digest.  In November I received a letter telling me I had been approved for Social Security Disability and funds would be posted to my bank account by December 10th for November coverage....and that this would be duplicated every month going forward!!!  Wow..I was overwhelmed because I had expected to be working on this approval for at least a year to 2 years.  I began my application when I was released from Symanted when they purchased the small software company I worked for.  Having sold my own business I went to work for my friend in June, 2007.  He sold his company in January 2008 and by May I was fully aware that the travelling they expected of me was going to be impossible with my back condition.  Merger situations are easy to extract yourself from so in May, after one year of employment I became unemployed...semi retired.. a 58 year old executive trying to find a job at the top level of a mdi-sized young company....with travel restrictions as well as other workfplace requirements due to back pain.  So I filed for disability.  My doctor, who had been after me for three years to do this, was fully engaged in helping me complete all the required steps toward sucessful applicaiton.  He reminded me it would take 12-19 months if we were lucky.  That was May, 2008.  6 months later I received the letter of acceptance.  I have two friends at my church who used to work in Boston as examiners for Social Security Disability cased in Boston.  They both told me that most of the applications (up to 80%) that they saw run across their desks daily were individuals trying to rake the system.  "We seldom received a case like yours and were happy to work on a case where the applicant was truly qualified".
