  • What are your favourite sweets?

I have just discovered Licorice Bears made by Panda. They are really addictive.

But as I'm trying to watch my weight and my teeth - I hide them in the back of my cupboard and just eat them occasionally as a treat.

    Hi Roy

Sadly I am allergic to Brazil Nuts - so I couldn't rush out and buy you those.

How about liqueur chocolates - those are wonderful. Especially cherry liqueurs ... lovely.

    Hi Jenny,

I agree those Cherry Liqueurs are excellent, but don't do a lot of good for the waistline.

Where did you say you'd hidden those Licorice Bear's ?

    Hi Roy

Yes Cherry Liqueurs are lovely - but they are a rare treat.

Funnily enough the Licorice Bear's have all disappeared. They didn't last very long as they were too tasty.

I've been hiding away the sweets lately and am sticking to savouries. My favourite is hot buttered toast with marmite. Is that better for the waistline?

Hard to pick a favourite.  I like Treacle Toffees - the black treacle type. Mmmm! to all Liquer Chocs.  Good old fashioned Licorice is addictive as you say Jenny.  Cadbury's Twirl - Just meltingly pure chocolate. Oh! and Chilli Chocolates different, but a favourite.

I've given up worrying about my figure & my teeth too much at my age & just enjoy!!!!  Naughty....but nice!

Funny you should mention Marmite, Roy.  I love it, my hubby hates it, but we went all the way to Cornwall recently in search of a Marmite Pasty (that has been advertised) and to my disappointment, couldn't find one!

The old fashioned sweets are often the best. Liqueur Chocolates, Cherry Chocolates and Belgian Chocolates are also wonderful.

Cadbury's Twirl is lovely and also a Flake. And I also go mad for Minstrels - especially in the cinema or when I'm driving. I haven't had them for ages. I also like Italian chocolate which is quite subtle and creamy. Or very dark chocolate. Even better still Carte D'Or Chocolate Ripple Ice Cream.

I must admit I am worried about my figure - so have really cut down on chocolate lately. But my trick is to have half a Mint KitKat or half a Dark KitKat with a cup of tea. And then I still have my chocolate fix but I don't feel so guilty!

I am the Marmite freak. My kids are also addicted to it. They've loved it ever since they were babies. My husband also hates it. A Marmite Pasty sounds wonderful.

But there's still nothing better than a hot buttered slice of toast with carefully striped lines of Marmite.

I adore aniseed balls. When I suck them I can close my eyes and clearly remember the old brown stable door to the sweetshop near my junior school. It was owned by two elderly sisters who were spinsters. It was the front room of their house. Jars and jars of different sweets covered the shelves. I was mesmerised by the way they rolled a piece of white paper around their hands to form the conical packet they poured the sweets into. They never bothered much about the weight and if you did not have enough pennies they never cared. I believe they loved the children and the sweetshop provided a living and they enjoyed it. They knew us all by name and if someone was ill they often sent a few sweets home for them. Those were the days!!

  • My Grandaughter's Favourite!

I love Sour Stuff!  Especially the SOUR rainbow strips or strawberry strips!  YUM!  I have to get used to the flavour of sourness for a bit though!  After eating alot, I end up with a sore tongue.  Small price to pay for enjoyment!

I also like Spearmint Softmints.  I hate the peppermint ones though.  I think I will go and buy some sweets from Sainsburys right now..............

  • What are your favourite sweets

I have just discovered a fantastic olde English sweetshop in South Woodford, London called Mr Simms. It has lots of jars of weigh-out sweets and all your old favourite sweets.

I treated myself to a box of dark coated violet creams. Wonderful!

And they have great sweets and chocolates there like chocolate umbrellas, chocolate teddies, licorice - lots of yummy things.

But I think it's going to be a one-off treat for me - as it's just far too tempting in there!
