  • Tell us about a good bargain you have recently bought and where you got it

I bought a lovely pair of suede shoe boots for just £20 last week at TJ Hughes. They are really comfortable and look great.

TJ Hughes is full of lots of bargains - it's a cut price department store. I'd highly recommend a good rummage around it. It's like a cross between Primark and TK Max.

I bought myself a really cheap leather jacket at Asda the other day. It cost me just £30 and what I like about the jacket is that it keeps me warm and I look good in it.

I bought a pair of black gloves in Woolworths for £1.

And a pack of old fashioned wooden dominoes also for a £1.

Quite a lot of items at Woolworths are still at the usual prices, but there are a lot of discounts to be found. Lots of cheap CDs, toys and household items.

    Definitely worth a look round.

I got some great bargains from Woolworths before they closed down.

I got a skipping rope for £1, a Kaiser Chiefs CD for £2 (one of my favourite bands), a McFly Annual for my daughter for 50p (her favourite band), a pack of pens for 75p, cheap notepads and plenty of other bits and bobs.

I'll really miss Woolies. It was a really good local store within walking distance. Frown

I just bought two jumpers from Primark - one in black, the other in purple, and a bracelet for just £8.81 for the whole lot.

I later went back and bought a dressing gown for £4.

The quality in Primark is much improved. And the prices are so cheap you can hardly go wrong.

I would highly recommend it for buying cheap and cheerful clothes during the credit crunch.

I did notice that you had an article about Minuet Petite on your February Fashion page.

The Minuet Petite website is really well run, and some of their sale prices are very low if you need smart outfits for not much.

I did place an order and it arrived quickly; all the items were on hangers in plastic covers, and came in a cardboard box, so nothing needed ironing.  The quality for the most part was high, so I can recommend it happily.

Their sister website, Alex and Co seems just as good for sale bargains if you are a little taller than a petite. unfortunately the sale is almost finished, so not much left, but you could get lucky. Tempted by the new season stock.......

Dental floss from Lidl!!!!!!! 99p for a two pack. A lot of their products are very well priced and well made, as long as you are disciplined and selective.

  • Woolworths and TKMAXX

When Woolworths was closing my son and daughter-in-law decided to take a look and were looking for some childrens cloothing. Whilst in there, a voice came over the Tannoy saying 'All children's clothes, 50p an item'. Almost getting pushed aside in the rush they got some great bargains....and we added them up at home and they got £180 of clothing for £18 !!

TK Maxx closed near me...the last day there was a 50% sale. Some items had been marked down already and I got a beautiful coat...reduced from £80 to £40 then I got it for £20!!!

However, I really miss TKMaxx. They pulled out of Hartlepool rather unfairly in January after  taking on new staff in Oct/Nov last year, I felt so sorry for them.

The business was doing well, but the 10 year lease was up for renewal. It had nothing to do with the cost of the lease. They said it was 'part of the long term plan to close the store' ..adn being so bad on all those young people who lost their jobs.

    Hi Katie

Price Drop TV sounds a good shopping Channel. I have never bought anything from a TV channel before. But it must all be safe.

How does it work. Do you just phone up and give them your credit card details?

You phone up to buy the item,Someone from Sit-up channel which is bidtv ring you when they have time and take your payment details after saying what you purchased and then they proceed and it all goes through. You do have to register card details on bid tv website first though.

Slumdog Millionaire is supposed to be a really good film. I never got round to seeing it at the cinema. That's a good bargain. I like to buy things on Amazon. As delivery is usually pretty quick and reliable.

I hope you enjoy the film. Let us know if it's good.

Two of my favourite websites for saving money are toptable.co.uk which is a restaurant booking site. And laterooms.com which is a hotel reservation site. Both of these sites offer very good discounts. Toptable has many restaurants offering 50% off. Laterooms has many hotels offering incredibly cheap accommodation. The quality of restaurants and hotels is really excellent and as long as you are prepared to be flexible, rather than only being willing to eat or stay at one location, then it is possible to live like a king and pay relatively little. These sites are proving a real bonus for me, as my girlfriend thinks I am treating her to the finest restaurants and best hotels at enormous expense, when in fact I'm a cheapskate

  • Tell us about a good bargain you have recently bought and where you got it

I have a party to go to at the end of October and the invitation is asking for ladies to wear cocktail dresses. I didn't really have anything suitable, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I decided to have a look at my local shopping centre to see what I could find.

I headed for Debenhams and they had plenty of cocktail dresses. Many were full price, but some were in the sale on a rack.

I picked up a black strapless dress from the sale rack - just what I was looking for - and a handful of other dresses at full price. The black dress fitted perfectly, the others weren't right for me. The only problem with the black dress was that it didn't have a belt - it had belt loops - so obviously the belt had got lost. But apart from that it looked perfect. And it was priced at just £38.00. While the others were about £100.

That didn't sound too bad so I went to the check-out and asked if they had the belt which went with it. The lady said no, but I could have a discount as the dress was clearly damaged.

She let me have the dress for £24.75 because the belt was missing. Also there was a small make-up stain at the back.

I bought the dress and put in a pretty belt from an old cocktail dress I had at home. And wiped away the make-up mark with a flannel. I now have a lovely dress to wear to the party, which was very inexpensive and looks as good as new!

I do advise other readers to look for bargains in sales. And if anything is damaged to see if you can get a discount. As it's often easy to make the repairs at home.
