I have a party to go to at the end of October and the invitation is asking for ladies to wear cocktail dresses. I didn't really have anything suitable, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I decided to have a look at my local shopping centre to see what I could find.
I headed for Debenhams and they had plenty of cocktail dresses. Many were full price, but some were in the sale on a rack.
I picked up a black strapless dress from the sale rack - just what I was looking for - and a handful of other dresses at full price. The black dress fitted perfectly, the others weren't right for me. The only problem with the black dress was that it didn't have a belt - it had belt loops - so obviously the belt had got lost. But apart from that it looked perfect. And it was priced at just £38.00. While the others were about £100.
That didn't sound too bad so I went to the check-out and asked if they had the belt which went with it. The lady said no, but I could have a discount as the dress was clearly damaged.
She let me have the dress for £24.75 because the belt was missing. Also there was a small make-up stain at the back.
I bought the dress and put in a pretty belt from an old cocktail dress I had at home. And wiped away the make-up mark with a flannel. I now have a lovely dress to wear to the party, which was very inexpensive and looks as good as new!
I do advise other readers to look for bargains in sales. And if anything is damaged to see if you can get a discount. As it's often easy to make the repairs at home.
