Where is your next finish line?

Speaking of finish lines....don't let Monument Ave's 10k be the end of running for you!  You don't want to have to start all over again on a cold January morning next year.  You will be kicking yourself for not sticking with it.  One really great way to stick with it is to find your next finish line.  Find another race and sign up now.  It can be another 10k in a few weeks, a 5k or an 8k....whatever!  If you are really feeling ambitious you can sign up early for the McDonald's 1/2 Marathon in November (discount registrations apply!)!  My sister-in-law has found several for us to do.  We have decided to do at least one race a month together.  We have found an "Urban Dare" race in DC on 4/18 which sounds interesting.  I think we may also try the James River Challenge; both the James River Scramble on 5/16 and the Carytown 10k on 5/17.  Two great websites for finiding races would be www.sportsbackers.org and www.RRRC.org for local races and www.runnersworld.com for a more complete list of races anywhere.  If your were a part of the YMCA's 10k Training Team then you received and e-mail from Coach Dan Blankenship listing a few of the local races and websites to check.  Don't find yourself having to start over next year.  Instead, look back and see how far you have come and how strong you are and how fit you are to have continued with the commitment to a healthy lifestyle!  Our West End Running Group is always open and welcoming any new members!

  • Yeah, I think I will do the James River Challenge....one more medal!!!  I hope my leg heals by then.  Kevin, that is what we did last year when we went to San Diego.  We found the Navy's 4 mile race over the Bay Bridge and did it just for fun!

  • You know another cool thing to do is to combine your next race with travel / vacation.  How about a marathon in San Diego or a 1/2 marathon in Ocean City, Md.(4-18-2009)?  Maybe you have a favorite destination.  Chances are they have some type of race going on while you are visiting.
