    • "Whatever Gets You thru the Night" is a song on John Lennon's 1974 album Walls and Bridges. It was Lennon's only American solo number one song during his lifetime ("(Just Like) Starting Over" would chart posthumously six years later). The recording featured Elton John on backing vocals and piano alongside the Muscle Shoals Horns. While in the studio, Elton bet Lennon that the song would top the charts, and such was Lennon's skepticism that Elton secured from him a promise to appear on stage at one of his performances should the record indeed hit number one. When the record did achieve that feat, Lennon appeared at Elton John's Thanksgiving performance at Madison Square Garden on November 28, 1974 (1974-11-28). It would be his last appearance before a rock audience. Yoko Ono was in the audience, and saw Lennon backstage after the performance. It was the first time in nearly a year and a half that Yoko had seen John in person.     • "United States of Whatever" is a comedy song written by Liam Lynch for his 2003 album Fake Songs. It was the only single released from that album. The song made its debut on Lynch's MTV comedy show Sifl and Olly in 1999. The song is about someone who ignores or is dismissive of various situations. He refers to his world as "my United States of Whatever". The song achieved some success in countries like the UK and Australia, where it has charted in the top 10 of both singles charts (#10 and #6 respectively), and (until 2007) was the shortest song ever to hit these charts, beating the previous record held by The Vines for their single "Highly Evolved" in the same year. The song is one minute and twenty eight seconds long.
