What Former Rangers star Ron Duguay has to say about the rangers needing avery

Former Rangers star Ron Duguay told the New York Daily News that the team’s front office should do whatever it takes to bring back Dallas agitator and NHL bad boy Sean Avery, who was suspended last month by the league for his off-ice behavior and then indefinitely by the Stars following his reinstatement.

“I see what’s missing on the ice, and he’s that extra fireplug,” Duguay said Tuesday. “He energizes the team, whether you like him or you don’t like him.

“As a fan I would love to see him back with the New York Rangers. If he’s a problem in the dressing room—and I don’t know that—then that’s a decision that the coaches and players have to make.”

Avery, a Ranger for parts of two seasons before leaving for free agent riches with Dallas last summer, was suspended for making inappropriate public remarks about a former girlfriend before a Dec. 2 game in Calgary.

  • LL, stop saying "we"...you don't play for the team!!! LMAO Anyway, I posted a possible trade in the forum under someone's thread that would send either Drury or Redden (High salary dump) and bring back Avery and bring over Grossman from Dallas. Great up and coming d-man with a head for pplaying DEFENSE instead of pinching like some others {{cough cough, Redden, Rozsival, cough}}. I'm sure Dallas would hand over Grossman if it meant getting rid of Avery's contract and baggage without having to pay him another cent.

  • I think Avery was a great asset to the team, despite his aggitating habits. I like it because its what makes him who he is. The more hated you are around NHL, fans and players alike, the greater you must be. He adds a an edge to his team and when he left, we lost that edge, costing us deeply. I would love to see him wear a Ranger jersey again. =]]

  • Not that I particularly like agreeing with Ron "BonJovi" Duguay but the team needs this asset now more than ever. No elevated energy on this team and their fire either dies almost every game now by the end of the second/start of the third or it gets ignited way too late to make a difference. Avery can bring more than just a spark but he'd have to severely refrain from losing his cool to the point he does further damage. Said it before, say it again; If you're gonna bring Avery back, you better have a respectable and experienced leader on the team to tame him. The Rangers don't have that leader and won't unless they can get Shanny back.
