V.P. Joe Biden's Green Jobs Task Force

Green Jobs and the New Green Economy;

Green jobs are jobs that provide products and services which use renewable energy resources, reduce pollution, conserve energy and natural resources and reconstitute waste.

So what do green jobs mean for the middle class?

First, quite simply, it means more jobs.  At a time when good jobs at good wages are harder and harder to come by, it is critical we find new and innovate ways to create more such jobs.  Building a new power grid, manufacturing solar panels, weatherizing homes and office buildings, and renovating schools are just a few examples of ways to create new good quality jobs – green jobs – and strengthen the foundation of this country at the same time.

Second, more green jobs mean more money in your pocketbook at the end of the month.  If we create jobs that aim to reduce your energy costs – like your electric bill and your home heating bill – that means you have more disposable income for other things.

Creating more green jobs has multiple benefits.  It helps the economy as a whole; it helps our environment; and it will save you money.

  • 1/2 of whole world accumulated cash inflow yearly is from natural resources , if not mistaken this inflow was 35 trillion $ pa it was few years back , far lesser than what may be now . I think that’s the “ New Green Economy “ we are talking about . It’s to ensure sustainable growth with diversifications into niches.

I think , " Global warming consensus has to be build with “Crowd Sourcing “ process by entering common use to a large group of people or community in the form of an open call " . But their are limitations , I think in our adoption process.

It may be somewhere down the line within the framework of little different oligopolistic competition with rather stronger investors , lesser sellers within this industry. But with this are we not limiting Green discussions within Green or by targeting audiences who are already “ Thinking Green” .

Is that Crowd Sourcing ? Thereby are we not limiting , building consensus ? Can we try out creatively everything within Green for a Win Win situation ?

We might be misunderstood if we just " Think Green" !

But I feel " YES WE CAN "

  • I left the Greenbuild Boston in November last year with very positive impressions and seeing the willingness of the exhibitors to bring in new creative ideas and the well known American power to move forward has made me very positive and hopefull for the future.

Meanwhile I see that China is very focussed on photovoltaic (PV) as well as on Lithium batteries and creates a lot of new jobs in this field. This all gives me the impression that they are once more so clever to see their chances in a growing environmental awareness but not only in the motivation to save our planet.

It is high time that the American industry pushes foward to fulfill the needed measures and create a positive environment for further private investments in green technology. It would neither be in the interest of the American nor the European taxpayers if Americans or the western world buy subsidized solar items from China in lack of supply through General Electric, Siemens or whomever.

This would be disastrous not only for the urgently needed employment but also for the restructuring of the American industry on the whole.

So my mayor concern is that the western economies will hopefully not wait any longer and place immediately the delayed changes. Hartmut Rast

  • In upstate New York I would like to help the development of small farms to provide food locally and regionally and have 100 homes in my area outfitted with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

I am 50 years old and looking for a new job or to create my own green job and bring others along to have a four season microfarm and four season renewable energy production.

  • I'd like to see VP Biden help his home state Delaware out first. I've lived in northern Wilmington for over ten years and it's a mess. There's trash everywhere - sides of roads public and private. Pretty big issue. My suggestion is that if your representing the Green Movement your own home state should be a model not an open trash heap. So get people to work out picking up trash and enforce fines.

  • I'd like to see the Federal Government allow for the full cost of converting automobiles and light trucks from gasoline-powered to plug-in electric vehicles to be deducted from income taxes. This could be spread over 4 or 5 years. This will encourage consumers (to convert their existing vehicles), suppliers (to invest in better/lighter mass produced battery technology), integrators (to create convertion packages for current vehicle platforms) and create a new line of business for existing repair and customization shops. This will also dovetail in with the planned changes to the electrical "smart grid" by providing a way for these plug-in electric cars to provide power during peak demand periods.
