Some Motivation

Today was a day off from running so since I also took the day off from work, I decided to take in a Yoga class at the YMCA.  I love yoga but just don't seem to find the time to fit it in my schedule too often.  When I arrived at the Y, the previous aerobics class was just finishing and in there was my 82 year old dad!  I know both my parents frequent the Y and my dad does these classes at least three times a week, but seeing him look awesome in that class just made my heart swell with love and pride!  He is a lot of my motivation because I want to grow old as fit as he is!  He has always set an example of being active, trying different things (he ran for several years, learned to be proficient swimmwer as an adult) and telling me if you don't try the race, then you automatically lose it!  And by the way, he still has all his original joints and they all are still in good working condition!  He has suffered a broken elbow (falling off a ladder 10 years ago) and a back surgery for a disc problem. And he is smart enough to take some time off or change activity when something is hurting.  So I hope maybe sharing this bit about my dad will help keep some of the 10k training team motivated!  It is all good for you in so many ways!

The yoga was great - I really recommend it for good crosstraining!  Happy Saturday runs and walks!

  • Judy - good for your dad. Studies have shown that exercising throughout your life helps with joints, heart, blood flow, etc. as we age. Kudos to your Dad....AND to you too. 11 miles Saturday; Awesome.

  • Judy, that is so neat about your dad. I didn't realize he took the classes, too! We should take a class with him sometime. He could probably teach us all a thing or two! Thanks for sharing this great motivational story....as if you aren't motivation enough!!! :)
