A weak storm system is passing to our south. The center of low pressure is actually in North Carolina. But coupled with some upper air dynamics between 5,000 and 12,000 feet, we have got the kick start needed to produce some wet snow showers this evening. And yes, some rain may mix in, too. The potential (key word here) is for a trace to 0.5 inches of snow. Accumulation will tend to be on the lower end of this range for most (meaning flurries for most), but where these snow showers persist, up to 0.5 inches may fall between now and midnight tonight. No big deal. After midnight tonight, skies should begin to clear and it will turn colder.
Sunday looks sunny to me.
And Tuesday looks sunny to me.
Presidents Day, however, will include quite a bit of high thin cirrus clouds, filtering the sun out from time to time. The reason for these high clouds is due to a coastal storm off the shores of North Carolina.
TONIGHT: Evening wet snow showers, some rain mixed in, too.
Trace to 0.5" Cold, clearing late.
Lows: 23 to 28 degrees from suburb to city.
Winds: W to NW 5 - 15 mph
SUNDAY: Chilly sun.
High: 39 to 43 degrees from suburb to city
Winds: NW 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 20 mph.
MONDAY: High clouds, filtered sunshine, a bit colder.
High for Presidents Day: near 39 degrees.
TUESDAY: Chilly sun.
High: near 41 degrees.
Douglas_Melegari, 1 year ago | FlagI would say about 10-20 minutes of wet snow in the NW Burbs/Lehigh Valley, followed by 1hour or a little more of sleet.
In the rest of the region, sleet would last for 1/2 hour or less.
In the Poconos, 2-4 hours of wet snow and sleet followed by a few hours of icing to rain.
