Our New QB

April 3, 2009

I got a text message from a radio station in California yesterday. The producer wanted to know if I would come on the air to talk about Jay Cutler. I texted him back, saying that no, I didn’t want to talk about all the speculation as to where he would end up.

He said it’s not speculation anymore, Greg. The deal just went through and Jay’s on the Bears.

From that point my phone just went crazy. I was getting calls from my family, friends, guys on the team non-stop for the rest of the night. Radio people were asking me to come on the air and talk about the trade. It was a crazy night.

It was even more crazy because I had just thrown with Kyle that afternoon. I was always a big fan of his. But trades are just part of the game.

Now that things have calmed down a bit, I’m actually pretty happy. It’s exciting to get to work with a young guy who has done so much already, like throw for 4,000 yards and make the Pro Bowl. What it comes down to is he makes our team better and I’m looking forward to working with him.

I think he was in a tough situation with Denver, and it’s hard to comment about it unless you’ve been in that situation. I guess he just didn’t think he was being treated fairly out there. In the end Denver got a great quarterback in Kyle Orton, a guy who can play for a long time, plus 1st round picks, and we got a great player too, so both sides came out pretty good.

I’m excited to start up again on Monday. I just got married in Florida, it was amazing, the honeymoon was great, now we’re getting settled back in Chicago, where we’ll stay through the end of the year. Tonight I’m going to go to the press conference and enjoy that, then get ready to go back to work on Monday.

Greg Olsen is the starting tight end for the Chicago Bears. His blog for www.playerpress.com runs at www.golsen82.com.

  • Greg its great that you are getting married, hope you have a wonderful time on your Honeymoon remember you are always wrong and you should watch the Movie YES MAN because thats what you are going to always be saying for the REST of your Life.....LOL.

I think this is going to be the Best Year for you professionally with a little more threat with the passing game with Cutler and now will help you with deeper routes and of course personally, you are really developing into a very good Tight End keep playing with passion and always remember that you play for fans that care about you personally as well as our team DA Bears.

  • I told my boyfriend a couple years ago that it was only a matter of time before we got our act together and developed a serious team of players that would gel together fantastically...Well, here we go!! I'm so psyched about the addition of Cutler! I've been your biggest fan from day #1. This season you're going to get the credit you deserve!! And congrats on the wedding; though I was kinda hoping you'd hold out for me...Cry

  • I have to say, I am excited to see this season, particularly Cutler throwing to you...It will be nice to see what Forte can put up yard-wise as well when the box isn't stacked with 8 guys.  Not to mention Hester should be getting far more accurate passes outside 15 yards from scrimmage, don't get me wrong, I liked Orton, but this year has promise.

  • Once again another offseason and I believe that the Bears will be 19-0 and bringing home the Lombardi.  It sounds like there will be some changes at Halas Hall it will be interesting to get your perspective on how the practices are going.  I know we won't hear it all but I am excited to get what insights we can for this season.

  • I just joined this site to exclaim that the first thing I said when the Cutler thing began to absorb was that "GO is going to be a huge beneficiary of Cutler's arrival."  Think...Jason Witten but faster?

Hey Greg: are you faster than Witten?
