Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

SUBWAY GAL BEATS UP ON 3 THUGS
'BAD-ASS MAMA' TURNS THE TABLES
By JAMIE SCHRAM and CAROLYN SALAZAR

A feisty Harlem woman turned the tables on three subway muggers, chasing down two of the thugs while snatching back her purse - because it had her green card in it, cops said yesterday.
Marie Conde, 26, was riding a downtown 3 train at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and had briefly dozed off when three punks confronted her as it pulled into the 72nd Street station.
"I opened my eyes, and one of them punched me in the right eye," the French-speaking Guinean immigrant told The Post through an interpreter.

Al-Qaida No. 2 insults Obama with racial epithet
CAIRO, Egypt – Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama in a message posted Wednesday, describing the president-elect in demeaning terms that imply he does the bidding of whites. The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama does not represent a change in U.S. policies.
Ayman al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama is "the direct opposite of honorable black Americans" like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.
In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect — along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — "house Negroes."
Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term "abeed al-beit," which literally translates as "house slaves." But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as "house Negroes."

Home Depot: Where politically sanctioned murder is just the beginning
By: Ari Wednesday
This is what Home Depot's founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:
If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs.
It's nice to know Home Depot supports the death penalty for not contributing to their favored political causes.
The coming EFCA fight is going to be bloody.

Armed Man Said to Have Wanted Lift to Washington, D.C.
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police have arrested a man with a gun at a MARC station, after he reportedly told a cab driver he wanted to be driven to Washington, D.C.
Mayor Sheila Dixon's spokesman Ian Brennan says the cab driver dropped the man instead at the train station and reported the suspicious behavior to police.

Ethics complaint filed against Palin over Fox interview
Complaint says she crossed line between job, self-promotion
By KYLE HOPKINS
She's a national political figure and one of the world's most famous people.
She's also governor of Alaska.
As Sarah Palin settles back into her job as the state's chief executive, a new ethics complaint filed Tuesday says she's already improperly mixing her official duties and broader political ambitions.
The charge: That Palin broke state ethics rules by holding national television interviews about her run for vice president from the governor's office.
The complaint comes as Palin's personal life, her prospects as a future presidential candidate and everything she says and does continues to draw headlines.
Zane Henning, a North Slope worker from Wasilla, said he filed the complaint with the attorney general. He says Palin is promoting her future political career on state property, pointing in particular to the governor's Nov. 10 interview with Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren.

Nothing Knots Knickers Faster Than A Renegade Democrat
U.S. Senate Democrats really hate Joe Lieberman these days.
For Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, there’s no bigger scandal than a former Democratic candidate for the second-highest office in the land than stumping for, well, the enemy.
So now Reid wants Lieberman out of the Democratic caucus and he wants to do it by holding a secret ballot. However, as Riehl World View points out, that’s pretty ironic coming from the Democratic Party, which plans to do away with secret ballots for workers who are thinking about unionizing. So much for making choices free from intimidation.
I’m not even going to pretend I understand everything involved here. But it seems pretty cut and dried that if private voting is good enough for Senate members, shouldn’t it be good enough for their constituents?

Michelle Bachmann denies saying she wanted the media to investigate members of Congress who might be anti-American
Michelle Bachmann is a pretty wild person as we've seen, but after spewing venom at Barack Obama for a few minutes with Hannidate, she then lied to Alan Colmes and denied saying this on Hardball:
Bachmann: I would say, what I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look -- I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America? I think the people would love to see an expose like that.

Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is up to her old tricks, it would seem. On Hardball in October, the then-freshman representative told Chris Matthews that she thought Obama was "very anti-American," a statement that came to put her reelection campaign in jeopardy, to the point where the GOP reportedly pulled ads from her race. Last night on Hannity and Colmes, Bachmann pulled a 180 and said that Obama's cabinet picks revealed the man she once deemed too radical to be president to be "more of the same."

Eric Holder: A Rebuke Of Bush-League Justice
The New York Times reports today that President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team “signaled to Eric H. Holder Jr., a senior official in the Justice Department in the Clinton administration, that he will be chosen as attorney general.” While the Obama transition team denied that Holder has been selected, many progressives see Holder as a strong rebuke of the Bush Justice Department.
Glenn Greenwald — a consistent and vocal critic of the Bush Justice Department — writes that Holder’s views seem “rather unconstrained for Washington, suggestive of actual passion and conviction on these matters.” Digby writes similarly, “If [Holder] follows through…it would be good news.”
ThinkProgress has compiled Holder’s stated views on critical issues confronting the next Attorney General, including the Bush administration’s politicization of the Justice Department and the War on Terror:

CNN fails to identify former Bush homeland security official in report on torture.
CNN aired a story this afternoon reporting that human rights groups are urging President-elect Obama to “investigate whether the Bush administration is guilty of war crimes,” specifically, torture techniques that were approved for use against terror suspects. CNN reporter Kelli Arena noted that human rights groups argue that torture should never be used, but that “[i]ntelligence experts say that would be a mistake.” Which “expert” did Arena turn to to make that case? Former White House Homeland Security adviser Fran Townsend. At no point did CNN identify Townsend as a former Bush official. Instead, she was labeled an “intelligence expert” and “CNN national security contributor.”

Tina Brown: Bush's endless 'debacles' made him 'punch drunk'
David Edwards and Muriel Kane
As the last days of George W. Bush's presidency wind down, it is becoming clear that he expects to leave the urgent problems of his final months for the incoming Obama administration to sort out.
Tina Brown, editor of the journalism and celebrity gossip site, The Daily Beast, appeared on Tuesday's Rachel Maddow Show with guest host Alison Stewart to speculate about what might be going through Bush's mind.
"I do feel right now that he's very stunned," Brown suggested. "I think that the financial collapse was one debacle, one disaster that he honestly didn't anticipate. ... And so he has to recognize he's going out in a cloud of disaster. And I think that's really almost paralyzing him. I feel he's fading, he's becoming the invisible man as we look at him."
