How to Shape the community!

Hi:

I would value your opinion on how we can run a successful online community "All About Disability" that provides value to members and allows those that run the community to earn Money for their effort. YOu can post you comments here or email them to me....

Please provide me with any insight you think would be helpful and let me know you specific thoughts
about these 4 points

1. What tasks need to be done to run a successful community, run groups, approve content, invite others ....

2. What is top 2 most important community rule we should have,

3. Other than the current information covered by the Disability Digest what other type of content should we have?

4. Do you have an idea for a contests Ie: best blog, photo, poem, video story ..winner gets cash prize

Thanks for your input, its valuable input to help us shape the community

  • Brian,

    1.  I think learning about affiliate marketing will help in this area that you are searching for help:  What if it turned out as a win-win situation where you can provide helpful ebooks to those who are affiliates to attract/market more traffic to your site.  I know that for me I am not doing so well on my marketing strategy as an affiliate.  So I purchased the resell rights to an Ebook on how to use Craigslist in a simple matter to be an affiliate.  However I also bought the resell rights to a couple more Ebooks.  I want to be a better affiliate and at the same time help others.  This could be something you and I can look together at if you are interested.

Another suggestion to the community is something close to my heart so I hope I do not offend anyone.  However, I would like to see more effort in a "challenge" to help each other.  For example, what if there was a "Member of Support" month where a member is picked who needs advocacy support and simple instructions are blogged to see how many people can make a phone call and give specific instructions how to do this and make it simple like no more than 5 minutes to do?  One thing is I think we should remain positive in our attitudes towards these challenges because when we allow anger to get in the way of our passion, it puts a downer on the community here and we know how important postive energy is to our health.

    2. Not to be negative and be respectful to others.

    3.  Webinars on how to postion yourself better if you are not succeeding as expected on your own business startup.  Find those in this community who are successful at their business and are willing to provide a coaching program.  I realize you did that for the SBI contest which I commend that effort and regret that I was too involved with other things to participate.  However, I know for me that learning to grow in ways that I haven't grown as expected would be helpful.  I think you have a lot of members here who have coaching in their area of expertise that have beeen successful that could be of great value to this community.

    4.  I think contests are great.....they provide motivation and drive good spirit.  My personal favorite is blogging and poetry as you might have already seen.  I think that is a wonderful idea.  Or how about someone promoting a business idea for others without risk that is, and it being a contest?  Another idea popped up as I recall last night's Jay Leno show.  Matt Damon is one smart guy and I didn't realize how truly intelligent he is.  He knows the Country's Declaration Rights by heart.  He juggled tennis balls and recited the Declartion word for word.  He had earlier in the night show said he thought that people should pull it out once a year and read it with passion because most of us have not read it since we were kids (I am one).  However, when I listened to him recite it last night, I got chills.  THIS IS STUFF I SHOULD KNOW BEING DISABLED...EVEN BEING A PATIENT ADVOCATE or SUPPORTING YOUR OWN ADVOCACY.  Knowing your rights is essential in today's times and with our special circumstances.  Wouldn't it be great to have a contest that relates to history and a famous quote or bill of rights that not only educates us to help ourselves but to help others?

    Blessings,

    Christine

  • In the past year I've attempted to use my ticket to work pass twice and find out that I've been ignored. I'm glad for this site as I've gained information that has been helpful in the not to give up area. Also in trying new things like learning to use the computer more. And teaching myself. I will be exploring the ideas of self empowerment and keeping the mind and body active. I found a web site called HP solutions and they offer classes that are free to help with computer skills and self improvement.

  • I would love to see alot more information about how to become involved in SSDI Reform! It's an election year and SSDI Reform is not even an issue while so many continue to suffer while being mired in the present process. I don't know about the rest of ya'll but I am tired of the government throwing money towards illegal immigrants like confetti while US citizens do without! A Call to action is in order!

  • In addition to what geekygranny was saying about work at home positions here is an additional list of companies that offer legit jobs. Some of them are company paid positions while other are independent contractor positions. Each site needs to be checked out for the requirements and type of position that is available. There was one organization that had a full time position available with benefits.

  • Brian, For the past year and a half my life has revolved around my computer and a series of community support organizations dealing with MS, Depression, Suicide, Divorce and other issues. Because of my involvement I have seen both the good and bad with the various sites and how changes can upset a community. Locally I have been working to put together a support group of the members from a few of the MS sites so that we can gather for lunch everyother month and just talk so that we can help each other.
