This is the ultimate adventure for couples, so couples . . . listen up!
Take the great Alaskan outdoors with snow machining, dog mushing, and flights through the mountains, and pair it with literally gourmet food, amazing wine, morning yoga, and COMPLIMENTARY massages, and what do you get? The Winterlake Lodge.
The Winterlake is only accessible by air, so me and my friend Caroline (an old high school friend) grabbed a flight aboard Rust's Flying Service (they also own K2 Aviation, from my glacier landing blog last summer) to the Susitna Valley where we were treated like Kings and Queens.
Carl and Kirsten Dixon own the lodge and they have been in the business for nearly 30 years. Kirsten was trained at the Cordon Bleu in Paris and has a Masters in Gastronomy from Adelaide University in Australia, and it shows in the menu that you are served. Seared halibut, reindeer served medium rare, mushroom risotto . . . it's as good as any restaurant in the big city.
And the outdoor activities? Words won't sufficiently explain the experience. It literally was the ultimate for both men and women. Check out out the video. And if you'd like more information:
www.WithinTheWild.com - Winterlake is Kirsten and Carl Dixon's lodge in the Susitna Valley. They also own lodges in Tutka Bay (near Homer) and Redoubt Bay.
