Bright Sun, Low Humidity Today

Take a deep breath.  Fall is back in the air.  Dew points have dropped into the 40s and could dip into the mid to upper 30s later tonight in some areas before rising again over the weekend.  What does all of that mean ?  It means the comfort level outside has increased and the humidity level has dropped.

A few pop-up showers SOUTH of Philly appeared overnight, but most of that activity will be winding down around sunrise this morning, which occurs at 6:52 AM.

Technically, today is the closest "equinox" day for Philly.  The word "equinox" in Latin means "equal day, equal night."  But because the Earth is curved, (and besides, who lives at the Equator ?), our equal day, equal night scenario arrives 3 days later.  The inverse is true for the vernal equinox in spring.

Today

Sunrise:  6:52 AM

Sunset:  6:53 PM

Right now, Saturday looks good, but coolSun to Clouds -- highs near 67 degrees.  Rain will be forming from the West by evening.

Sunday, however, looks rainy and damp, especially in the morning.  Heavy rain early (1 to 2 inch potential) looks like a good bet.  Watch out for muddy puddles.  The rain should be moving out for the Eagles Game.

Sunday's high ?  Around 74 degrees.

Windy conditions will move in on Monday, as this storm system pulls away.

Wind gusts Monday around 40 mph + seems reasonable to me.

__________

Philly averages 1.6 days (nearly 2 days) at 90 degrees or higher in the month of September.  In September 2008, we got 3 days at 90 or higher.  In September 2009, we got 0 days at 90 or higher.

As far as 90 degree days in Philly are concerned, here is a list of the last few years in review.
Normal:  21 days
2006    27 days
2007    24 days
2008    23 days
2009    15 days  (which includes the 3 days in April)
There is definitely a cooling trend underway here in Philly.
