When I went to court, I had called Disability a month later to be sadly disappointed by the statemnet that the judge can take anywhere from 90-120 days to make a decision. My court date was mid June. The judge sent a letter in October but the ruling was decided in late September. I received SSI starting in October. They settled with me in November. SSDI sent a letter in December. I received a check late in December. That was great but then they shorted me about 3500.00. I have called numerous times and the problem was never corrected. They say they paid me a certain amount but to my calculations and what I actually received, I had been shorted. I did appeal that but after the case is said and done, good luck trying to get in touch with a caseworker. The SSI caseworker was great. The SSDI caseworker probably should look into another income avenue. She would never return my calls unless I was indisposed if you know what I mean! Her supervisor had to work my case for me! They are so busy and backed up with work. Anyway, this was my experience with becoming disabled!
geekygranny, 1 year ago | FlagHi there! When my husband was awarded his SSDI after fours of fighting for it, they did NOT give him any lump sums. They claimed his disabilitybegan last Sept 2007!!! I think they are shorting everyone they can. I'm still waiting for my hearing date. It's been a year now since I started the applicatio n. They had acknowledg ed my disabiliti es but said an employer could accommodat e me and I can work. Yeah right!!! I have a lawyer now and know I'm going to win. And I know I probably won't get any lump sum for starters. But at least I'll have a monthly check. It's rotten what they are doing to us.
