Drew Stanton

1st Trip to Ford Field

Well I must admit it's much harder to watch the Lions lose in person then on TV.  Last Sunday was my first trip to Ford Field and besides the loss, it wasn't too bad.  I really liked the stadium and feel that the Lions have to have one the nicest facilities in the NFL.  My seats were good and I even sat next to polite Viking fans.  Overall it was a great time and I'd love to come back to the stadium to watch another game....now about that game.

Being there in person there were two things that occurred to me... one is that the players are HUGE and two is that the speed of everyone on the field is ridiculous!  I really felt the Lions played well as a team and made some huge plays.  I don't think any player gave up and I know they really felt like this was a game that they could very easily win.  I really think that we lost this game because of some of the coaching decisions made.

When you haven't won a game all season, you can't make bad play calls.  We had 2 chances on 4th down to put 3 points up on the board.  The first time we pass... which I don't understand.  Then the next time we run a qb sneak against a big defensive line.  That's 6 points we should of had, but we decided we needed more and came away with nothing.  I also really felt we went away from a few of the plays that were working for us.  The play action pass to the TE worked well and that played was only used a couple of times.

Defensively we collapsed at the end.  I think the QB change really changed the game for the Lions D as they now had a dual threat QB that could make big plays with his feet.  The screen really started to hurt us too.  For some reason we could not find a play to stop it.  We did a pretty good job of stopping AP in the first half, but again another RB over 100 yards... seems to be every game.

I really hope this week Drew Stanton will get the start.  I really feel like at this point he's the only QB that hasn't been given a real chance to play.  I think with the QB situation currently going on this week that Drew gives us the best chance to win the game.  It's time to move on and look toward the future of Detroit.

In regards to  Dominic Raiola flipping off the fans... well when your being yelled at all game by the fans and you just played your heart out and lost a tough game... yeah okay I think we can let this one slide.   I read his comments today, he still sounds a lil bitter about it, but that's probably because of all the media hype it's gained.  Seems like a lot of the losing teams have players that are yelling out.  I don't support the action, but I can understand how emotions can make you do some crazy things.

I think this week we should look forward to a good game.  Although the Colts are on a 6 game winning streak, this is just the type of environment for an upset.  The coaching needs to stay smart and put points on the board.  Go Drew and Go Lions!
